Hm, I thought he was so-so. Sure, he was the bad guy, but he's pretty cliche. Could use more evil villainy like Sephiroth, or Kefka's. Not deep enough, but not exactly bad either.

Bad ass. He had a different idea of destroying the world than other boss' in the series. Instead of just simply raining down comets or fire and missiles on their current world, he decided to suck any and every major place on the world into The Void.

Ex-Death ran the show. He had Gilgamesh, who is usually a beast himself, whipped like a mo'fo. He burned down his own forest, took no pity on the elderly as he basically murders one of your main party characters, and I believe he then tried to date Kryle, Galuf's granddaughter, later on in the game, but I'm not 100% certain. ;)

But yeah, he was awesome. His battles were epic, but in the end he met his demise just like all other enemies attempting to halt Bartz and partying from conquering evil.

And i think the final battle was a worthy challenge too, especially when he transformed into a Neo-Exdeath, 4 parts and all.

(On a lighter note, I always thought his name supposed to be a Death, with Ex behind it. Kinda like a stronger version of Death, in a sense. When i realized the final boss was Neo Ex Death, I loled)

I thought he was pretty beasty because he didn't represent the darkness, he represented the void
so it was the Dawn vs the Void as opposed to the usual Light V dark

Honestly, I was thinking that Void and Darkness was basically similar, since Void=Nothingness=Somewhat means Darkness...

More or less the same, if you ask me, as do most of the games in the series.

I liked him. He wasn't the kind of villain we were meant to get to know, as people have stated here. But instead he was the all powerful demon lord creature we all feared.
Seeing him being ressurected was a powerful scene in the game...

Also, him having a
castle made out of the flesh of his fallen enemies
is a pretty awesome, if not gruesome, sight.

The power he tried to obtain was greater than anything a villain has tried. The powers void would have granted him access to all dimensions, not just the FF5 one... Had he been able to control it he could have ended all existance, sucked it all up into nothingness.

For
a tree in knights armour
to nearly achieve that, that is pretty impressive!

exdeath's a wuss think of it this way, yes he destroyed all the major cities but no one could even face him when he had half the void why not at least finish every obsticle before geting full power of the void???

Him and Gilgamesh are my favorite part of this game. Exdeath, while a shallow character regarding depth, is a badass when it comes to his on screen abilities. Who doesn't like a guy who teleports between planets, zips around fast enough to leave an after image, and Voids towns with a mere thought? Without him I probably wouldn't care for V too much.

I loved him, his music is AMAZING, my favorite boss music in any FF game. Sure he was 1D, but I was okay with this, this was old school...like others said, he way of destroying the world isnt so atypical...and his right hand side Gilgamesh was a hoot to fight, not to mention he was an actual challenge for a Final Boss...really the last FF game IMO that can say that (Kefka is debatable in that aspect)

Exdeath... was certainly the villain who introduced Nihilism to the FF villains. who else wanted to destroy everything, including himself, before this FF? Plus, he spoke like a true bad guy. Nothing compared to Gilgamesh though.

That said, I believe he is still behind the probably-inspired-Heath-Ledger-Joker villain Kefka.

Yes, ExDeath was a mighty fine nihilist, though I doubt any self-respecting Nihilist would every laugh in such a manner (Fwa ha ha). However, he was not the first in this regard: In fact the whole "void" thing was pretty much a concept recycled from FFIIIj. Many of the elements carry over to V, notable the job system, but also warriors of dawn/warriors of darkness, multiple "worlds," etc. ExDeath was alright, and as said before the torching of the forest of Mua and the castle made of twisted human flesh were very memorable. But aside from that he was forgetable. Oh well, I have never thought this game was heavy on story anyway...

It was hard the first time. So, I took the easy way out and Death Cannon-ed him at low HP and didn't have to fight NeoExDeath. Eventually, I got the Necromancer class, came back, ad destroyed him at level 94.

Did you know you could steal a Ragnarok/Excalibur (can't remember which) from the bottom right part?

Oh gosh. He was one creepy Villian. He could of given out nightmares. Everything to his theme song that sounded like that music in that horror movie where the man stabs the girl in the shower, to his really cold-hearted and almost empty emotionally -wise character was just terrifying !

Ex- Death brings out the shudders.

Really felt shaken when he tortured Bartz and the gang with the four crystals, and when your hiding out by the boats and Ex- Death finds out where you are and his creepy theme song starts playing as your running around in panic. I dislike Ex- Death because of his cold-hearted character he's a bit of a arse, but Villian wise he is really good and amazing.

.. Ex- Death & Sephiroth are the only Final Fantasy Villains that had the power to make me feel shaken and scared, and make me feel like I'm really facing against a terrible and evil force..

I agree with u Zeromus he definitely is a bad ass specially that part where he sent Gilgamesh to hell lol :holyshit: that was hilarious Ex Death is not only a bad ass but hes a bad, arse at the same time :mark::giggle:

the storyline of our heroes sucked but the villain roles were pretty damn awesome! Though i still like Gilgamesh more hes classic! :awesome:

god I know this is kinda late but,
in my opinion Light=Good, Dark=Evil, Void=Nothingness
(kind like how in kingdom hearts the heartless were evil, and the nobodies were nothings (literally)

and to go with this thread,
lets get serious, BLACK MAGE TREE, how much more could you ask for honestly?

I accept with information: Ex-Death ran the show. He had Gilgamesh, who is usually a beast himself, whipped like a mo'fo. He burned down his own forest, took no pity on the elderly as he basically murders one of your main party characters.

I like everything there is to like about Exdeath. He is evil, badass, relentless and battles with him are very challenging. I just with we knew a little more about him. It would have been pretty cool in my opinion if he was a part of the original four Dawn Warriors, or something like that. Or perhaps even if he was concieved of the Void, that would have given him an interesting twist. I'm just tossing ideas around here, but just a smidgen of backstory/history about him, and all of a sudden Exdeath is one of the top 3 villains of the series in my opinion.

He has a backstory. He's an amalgamation of demons sealed into a tree that gained self-awareness. Enuo, the mage who first used the Void, may or may not have been one of them. He doesn't really need any other gimmick.
