You know, as I've said so many times to you because you're being the oblivious one, not all emos are the same. My friends know they're emo, they don't care. They're the emos that are trying to get rid of the lame claimings that all emos cut themselves and whine how they don't have perfect lives. Not all emos are perfect middle class suberban kids either....

They're not being who they want to be, they're conforming to a damn trend. When you're a teenager you cling to trends so you can be accepted and try find out who you are.

Orly nao? Well, whatever it is your friends are trying to prove, it's not working. And have you noticed the PRICE of things in Hot Topic? I told you emo is a trend, and it's an expensive one. If you have the money to be trendy and a computer to write lame blogs on, don't bitch. Simple as that.

We all have problems. Emos just tend to take things out of proportion and make a huge deal about it. Yes some emos do have a good reason to go emo like a sudden death in the family, or they have cancer, something along the lines. That is a major issue but you have to let go of the past and move on. People have more respect for person when they over come their problems, leave the past behind them, and become successful. Emos are disrespected by society because they act rather selfish and still sulk in the past. It's just many people do not like for emos being attention whores, and making a big deal about a problem.

Emo is a trend now, just by very definition that makes it attention-seeking. People who are REAL cutters generally do their very best to hide their cuts. But now emos have taken it and made it a gay little trend to show off in the bathrooms at school and in their albums on myspace. Now people who actually cut because of real issues aren't taken seriously if they open up to someone.

Seriously, you seem to have misunderstood the definition of emo.
An emo kid is exactly how VR described, someone who writes bad suicide poetry, cuts self (though this is a developing stage), and posts on MySpace/LiveJournal/YouTube about how shit their lives are, instead of dealing with the problems and moving on.

If you dress in dark clothes and wear dark makeup and listen to hard metal, you are goth.

Nobody fucking likes emo kids, so if your friends are crying their eyes out at night and write suicide notes then yes they should just stop talking and take action.

To further touch on my previous point of emos being useless members of society, they don't even try to create any social movements other than turning people into whiny crybabies. They're not writing music about how things need to change in the government and what have you (ala punk), they're not writing music to HELP people THROUGH hard times (such as, hey, cheer up, things get better). All they do is lament over the same stupid, trivial issues over and over, so while emo kids may be able to relate, it's not helping them OVERCOME anything. Although emo kids don't really WANT to overcome anything in the first place, because if they did that then they wouldn't have stuff to bitch about which means less pity being given to them.

I don't see it as stereotyping - you're one of those emo's if you have the whole package of the appearance and the "oh my god everyone hates me" / "i don't care what people think." Much likes chavs and neds - you're not a ned just because you listen to rave/disco/dance music, or just because you wear trackie bottoms, but you generally ARE if you talk, look, sound and act like one. There's no stereotyping in that if you're clearly branding yourself with a name.

Yeah, stereotypes usually exist because they're applicable. Example: you know all those southern state stereotypes? They're all true.

We were doing aa project in class one year about self harm among teens, and we got statistics and shit and that was about it, but gave surveys to other classes and it was hilarious watching them fill it out, cause there was all the emo's ticking yeah to "are you depressed" "do you know what depression is" and all that stuff, and the bit I hate about some emo's is that thet do cut and whine, yet they're also so incredibly happy.... In the youth club one ran up to me clapping thier hands going "I'm going to see enter shikari!!!!" I can't figure the cunts out.....
