Have you ever gone through a Final Fantasy playthrough and given characters names that you thought were cool/ awesome at the time ? But now you look back in regret, and think "What was I thinking ?" that was so embarrassing !

I was thinking of getting out my best save of FFIX and trying for a perfect game, and then realized that I called Zidane, " Clay Aiken " from my American Idol obsession in 2004. Oh my gosh, Clay friggen Aiken. I'm so embarrassed. :disgust: What was I thinking all those years ago ?

Also one time decided to play FF VII and call Tifa "Sephiroth ". It was funny at first, and completely random, but when it came to the Cloud and Tifa date, it was just embarrassing. It made me regret too giving Tifa a silly name, espically when my party was so leveled up.

I mean..

Sephiroth " Cloud... I want to tell you something..."

Cloud " What is it, Sephiroth ' ??

No, ..... just no...:thehell:

Also I called everybody in FF6 ''Kefka ". That got stupidly confusing, and stupid rather fast. :hmph: When it came to the Ghost Train part, it was like, why didn't I take this game seriously at the beginning ??
 
Well I dont know if this is really that embarrasing but when I was first playing FF7 I had a little crush or thing with this girl...I was only like 13 or something.....so I named my characters names from me and her friend circle in real life.

Later me and that girl started hating each other...you know how kids are....and I started to loath and hate all of my characters on the game because it kept reminding me of people I didnt like haha

On my second play through of FFVII I named most of the characters Beyblade character names because I went through a phase. But that was the only time i ever changed my characters names :O ever since then I have only used their real names.
 
I don't remember using embarrassing names put very inappropriate ones. :hmmm:

I remember one game for FFVII I renamed the chicks:

Aeris - Virgin
Yuffie - Cuntthief
Tifa - Cocktease

Aside from that, I usually keep the names the same.
 
Calling Squall Banana. >.> It was funny at first but later I couldn't take him seriously anymore :P I keep the standard names now.
 
Yeah.. embarrassing names... I, like a lot of people probably, named the characters the people that he/she liked...

Are the names that I remember changing MY first play through of the game, Cloud looked exactly like Link to me so I guess that's where that came from xD Also I was obsessed with Zelda at the time :sad3: Also I named Yuffie after myself, because she was my favorite Character.
 
In FF8 I once named Rinoa after a girl that I had a huge crush on.. I never understood why you could only give a name to Squall and her.

I've otherwise been quite OCD about keeping the characters' regular names though.
 
I named Vivi in FF9 after one of my exes while we were dating, fired up the other day, and felt like a giant idiot. That's about as close as I've come.

Luckily I was able to use Namingway to change it.

I would not have wanting that person's name ruining my fun.

I jumped for joy cos I got to sit with Cloud under the Highwind :busta:
My best friend still teases me about it.
 
Hm... I usually rename the characters using names that I thought was cool. Usually, that only happens to the main character, since I wasn't creative enough to come up with something for everyone else.

I remember one of the ones that I stuck with for quite some time was Ray from Beyblade.

It sounded cool then... Now, it just sounds silly.
 
I named Aeris after my mother. That was a bit...awkward given the events of the game. Usually, I just keep the original names unless I truly depise them though.
 
Embaressing names... Well, I haven't done this particularly with Final Fantasy, but the only bizarre names I've ever chosen in a Final Fantasy games were:

Tidus --> SPAZBEAR (using the symbols with the pronunciation letters)
Squall --> Gabe (my name)
Rinoa --> Candice (some girl I had a small crush on for a while, which is quite creepy, actually.)

But worst of all, was when I used to play Pokemon a lot. xD THAT is where stuff went down.

Piplup ---> PWNANATOR
Palkia ---> PWNANATOR0
Shinx ---> PWNANATOR1
Starly ---> BACK UP #1
Pikachu ---> BACK UP #2

I feel like I was objectifying pokemon creatures...
 
It's sad the amount of enjoyment me and my friends used to get out of naming our RPG characters, oh the insanely juvenile names we used to give them. Most of the time though if it was a game I had never played before I would simply leave their names alone.

I usually keep the default names (cause they are, you know, their names) but once when I was hardcore into Lord of the Rings I named Zidane Strider (Aragorn's nickname).
 
I called them all swear words in FFVII cause I thought it would be "cool" and I wanted to be "cool" man i screwed that up b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-ad! It was funny for the first time you saw the character... but after that...It was just annoying cause it took away everything from the story with bad names lol.

There is so much win in these posts,that I'm mad I didn't come up with some of these ideas before.

Well,I only ever tried different names in FFI,because,y'know,they don't have any official names;it's not that I was ever really resistant to name changing if they had actual names,I just...Never tried it.I've thought about naming everyone the same thing before,though,in Golden Sun.
 
I named pretty much all my FFVII characters after family members first time round. I feel sorry for my brother Simon, who lent his name to Cait Sith, whilst my oldest brother Steve became Barret.
 
i named my

Zidane ---> Nizane
Tidus ----> Nazdus

OMG.....WAS that my way of thinking when i was under 16?
i laugh back at myself....saying....
''My my, what a brilliant name i gave to these ff heroes!'' ^^D AHHA funny though!
