Does anybody wish Rasler was the main guy instead of Vaan?

Rossler, Ashes husband would of made a much better main character for this game than Vaan.. He was better looking + he would of added a ton more to the story being Ashes husband/King as opposed to Vaan who provided well.... um, Nothing.. I feel he and Ashe fighting the Archadian Empire together would of made a much better story... But maybe thats just me.

I don't think that would have worked out at all. Instead of Ashe embarking on an epic quest being led by what she thinks is the ghostly visage of her dead husband, it'd be Rasler and Ashe in a castle doing nothing the whole time. Really, what are two politicians going to do in the midst of the war? The only reason Ashe was able to go into hiding in the first place was by using Rasler's death as an opportunity to fake a suicide.

Even Ondore, perhaps the most active politician in the game, spent all his time alternating between sitting down and standing in two or three spots.

Besides, Vaan is an okay dude in my book. But that's just preference.

I thought that Basche would of made a better hero originally, but now reading this. Maybe Ashe's husband wouldn't be too much of a bad idea. He has that handsome qualities about him, and he had leadership skills, and he was a kind and loyal knight. He kind of reminds me of General Leo from ff6.

Yes RASSLER should have been the main dude:rage:!!

Super Choop go to a retirement home:amg: Ive said this for the last 4 years Rassler is what FFVII needed a strong mail lead............but fucking sqaure gaves usd that Androgynous twerp Vaan instead!.

BIG mistake, rassler had all the right things needed for an epic character, A cool sword, a position of authority, a kingdom, even Ashelia would have been more of an acceptable female lead to be an eqaul to rassler.

What doesn vaan have? a gay hair cut!!!! killing Rassler was one of S-E biggest mistakes.

Even Reks would have been a better male lead (Vann's brother).

To me vann was like a child running through a toyshop for the first time, Instead of looking ou for enemies he's going oogly eyed at the scenery.

I don't see how Rassler being the main character would have worked out, either. It would have totally changed the storyline, and I doubt Ashe would have been such a strong female protagonist with him still around.

I would have preferred it if Balthier had been the main character. He had the most personality and style of all the characters, and he was just so much more likeable than street rat Vaan, who was so horrendous out-of-place it's not inconceivable his presence was one giant attempt at trolling.

Really, when you examine the story, Vaan isn't the main character at all, he's just the guy you play as. His involvement in the story is minimal. The entire focus is on Ashe, Balthier and, to a slightly lesser extent, Basche. It would have made more sense to run around as one of those characters.

Rasler definatly should have been the main guy, he was so much more badass than Vaan (altho Vaan is a feeble panzie who would get killed by small, cute, fluffy woodland creatures with no teeth or claws) whereas Rasler actually has a backbone, and is willing to fight for what he believes is right. Vaan on the other hand, follows Ashe and Basche like he wants to have their babies.

and even thought the idea of Rasler being the main hero is a good one, I think you should have gotten either Reddas or Vossler in your party for a larger segment.

Leanna dont you get it? thats whole bloody point !
it would have changed the story line for the better, thats what the problem with FFXII was it was crap! Due would have accentuated Ashelia, a strong male and female leas dont diminish each other they strengthen each other.

Honestly, anyone would have been a better lead character than Vaan. He's comparable to Amarant from 9 - he joins the party for no real reason and has nothing personal or worthwhile going on. Fortunately, Squeenix got it right by making it where you never, ever need to use him with the exception of running around in town. Of course, they also put you in a setting with fascinating races and only let you play as a bunch of humans and one viera.

More to the original post, though, I don't feel like there was enough information about Rasler to make me desire him as a main character. He works well as a plot device, but as far as being playable, some random bangaa off the street would be just as defined and fleshed out. As I stated at the start, anyone would be better than Vaan, no contest.

Vaan is fine (albeit a bit weird looking), they should've elevated Basch's character more so the story is 1/3 vaan-coming of age/revenge, 1/3 basch- redemption, 1/3 princess hoochie skirt-fighting oppression.

I found myself wishing this a lot actually. Just because Rasler is just a great character from what I saw. He had a great character design too.

I may find Vaan a bit annoying, but he's not terrible, but Rasler did appeal to me more :)

You ARE kidding, right? FFXII had the best story of all the FF games, because it actually went beyond the sappy-crappy-happy love plot and focused on an entire world.

I honestly think if Rasler had been alive, it would have killed Ashe's character entirely. She would have been reduced to a love interest and that would have been it. That is all the women in FF who fall in love ever are. Love plots ruin storylines. Ashe was a strong, independant character who didn't need a man's shoulder to lean on, and that is what I liked about her.

Rassler would have been an improvement from Vaan...but who wouldn't have? ...Vaan wasn't memorable to me...he was kind of just "there" for a lead character..and for me the only thing that stood out about him was his lack of clothing...and weird clothing at that

Rassler was more mature and it would've been interesting to see the game from his point of view...but I don't think Ashe would've been the person she was if
he were still alive
...who knows if she would've even been in it...I can't see SE pushing a wifey/hubby out to save the world thing.

Having Rasler as the main lead would have changed the whole game- story, everything. There would be no point in the game, or it would be a completely different one,
because without Rasler having died, Ashe wouldn't be out there fighting, she'd be living a happy life with Rasler, even if it was an arranged marriage. Also, I do think that Vaan is important, purely because he gives a different view on things- there's a big contrast between the three "couples" (probably not the best word, but good as any)- Vaan and Penelo, who are snipes, Balthier and Fran the Sky Pirates and Ashe and Basch, who don't exactly get on but are fighting for the same reason.
I think you need the contrast in order for the game to work.

Vaan was hardly the problem with FFXII. In fact, he played like a rather typical person that's his age and in his position. The thing is everyone goes on about wanting realistic characters, and then they complain that the characters are basically TOO realistic.

It's the FF8 thing all over again. They acted like spoiled teenagers. Any guesses why? MAYBE BECAUSE THEY WERE SPOILED TEENAGERS. Characters don't get much more real than that. But people complain that they are too real.

As for the attacks on Vaan's personality, they're rather childish. So he wasn't mega tough? Big deal. Doesn't make him a bad character. It makes him realistic. So he looked like a girl? Have you seen a male FF male character that doesn't?

I hardly imagine myself Rasler (a prince) hunting Rogue Tomato or Flowering Cactoid... for a potion or teleport stone. lol

Even Reks would have been a better male lead (Vann's brother).

It will be possible to done with my editor. The editor can replace any main character with guest characters (Reks, Vossler etc.) or even espers.
