I didn't see a thread about it, so it is either DEAD or was never created.
So did anyone played any game from the series? Do you like it?

I played only DMC3 and DMC4. I really like DMC3 because the Gameplay was quite good, even though I am not really into action games, and it had a proper plot.

DMC4 on the other hand, had improved Gameplay. But I felt that it is all it had: Gameplay.
The plot was too much linear. Every part of it was expectable and was quite boring. I don't hate the game, but I quite dislike it. My friend likes this type of games, so I showed DMC4 to him.
He wanted to clear all modes, so I decided to clear it together with him.
We both, at least, agree that the modes are pretty lame and boring.
The same things with monsters who dealing a little more damage.
We are now have "Dante Must Die" mode. I have tried a few levels and it is only a little more difficult than "Son Of Sparda". Really nothing cool about it.

A friend gave me the box set, so I started with the first game. I'm still on the first game because I've been playing other games since then, but I like it a lot. I don't play that many action games, but this one caught my attention, probably because the gameplay is pretty tight and Dante is an interesting character. It's hard, but the challenge makes it that much more satisfying whenever I beat a boss.

I heard DMC2 was bad, though.

I've played them all except for DMCIV. For the most part I think the games are great but the whole hack n'slash thing does get tiring in a boring way after a while. The first game was great, the second was POOR but the third game is bar far the best one of the PS2-era. I'm a bit of a fan of mythology and of the Divine Comedy so the imagary and references really appealed to me.

The first one is the only one that's truly great if you ask me. The second one was a horrible let down and the third one was an improvement from that, though not a big enough improvement to make me want to check out Devil May Cry 4.

Can anyone tell me exactly why DMC2 is so bad? Was it a gameplay issue, or did they ruin the story? I know DMC2 takes place after DMC1 while DMC3 is before DMC1.

DMC1 was awesome and groundbreaking.
DMC2 was pretty bleh.
DMC3 had great gameplay but the story was so cheesy it was almost unbearable, even for an action game.
DMC4 had a decent story, and fun gameplay.

I really don't care as much about story in a game like this. Cool characters, monsters, and theme is usually enough to keep me hacking and slashing. A good plot never hurts, but there's a whole other genre of game that focuses on story and plot, not to mention other kinds of media.

It was a bit of a mix of it all to be honest. In the first Devil May Cry, Dante had lots of great, witty one-liners, but in DMC2 he was pretty silent throughout the game. The storyline was pretty bland as well, and the gameplay was no way near as dynamic as it was in the first game.

I see. Yeah, part of the main appeal of the first game is Dante's personality. I have no idea why they'd mess that up.

I need to finish the first three and get DMC4. It seems like whenever I start playing them another game comes out and I start playing that instead.

Yes, the major appeal of the first game was that it totally did away with what I thought it would be. I expected a lot of angsty "MY PAST HAUNTS ME!!!" bullshit but got the exact opposite. I was thrilled. I was delighted. I loved it.

But in DMC2, they turned that vibrant character into a boring rock. Not even an INTERESTING rock but a BORING one. Sheesh.

DMC3 was my favorite though. Love for Agni and Rudra.

As mentioned and implied by others, with a series like DMC you don't strictly need a solid storyline to follow; so long as the combat system is diverse and the levels are well constructed [with the inclusion of various demons/devils] it's a sure entertainer. I didn't really like fluidity of 3 in combat, but loved it when Special Edition was released and we could finally play as Vergil/Nelo Angelo. Unfortunate that the Vergil boss wasn't replaced by Dante, but oh well. Kickass at any rate.

As for 1, well, it was so heavily oozing awesome storylines that it shat all over how linear the button bashing was.

4 is where combat took a leap into the future, for me. Story was nothing remarkable but still liked it to a degree, but it was definitely that arm that sold the whole thing. Character development [in terms of abilities] was also solid, so it kept me entertained for quite some time before finally deciding to put it down.

Uh... well, small shout-out to 2 though: I loved a couple of the bosses and their accompanying music. Argosax the Chaos and Despair Embodied were pretty awesome.

Ive played them all briefly, never completed them. I always borrowed them and never had the time to finish playing them. I should really, I loved the 360 one. Dante is quite a hottie lol. I do enjoy the battle system, I love button mashing.

I used to play DMC but not anymore since they fucked with the story by adding Nero and confirming that Vergil's his father and shit.

But thats not to say i'm surprised, capcom always does stupid shit like that. They don't care about the fans and they care about is money, I still can't believe they took the DMC series away from its creator Kamiya.

I just bought the first one recently because I was in GameStop looking through the used rack for anything I could get cheap to hold me off until FFXIII, honestly -_- I got it for $6, it looked good, and I remembered that someone recommended it to me a while back but I never got the chance or motivation to buy it. And I'm glad I did. I'm not far into it right now, but I love it so far. Really glad I picked it up.

Totally agreed, lol.

Ah, damn it, I hate you! I just started DMC4 today, and now you totally ruined it for me! Dx

Anyways, I enjoyed the first game, and I agree the second game fell very short. I didn't even bother playing from the other POV >_>

Loved the third one a whole bunch though. Young, cocky Dante is epic, and Vergil is just as hawt xD

So as I said, started on DMC4 today (it was the only, uh, affordable PS3 game at the moment >_>). I'm not against new characters or anything, so I'll just go with the flow.

But one thing I'm confused over-all about would be the timeline of DMC. Like, I know it's DMC3, then 1 and then 2, but where does 4 get fitted in?

'Cause in the second game, Dante
goes to the demon world at the end of the game
but he's still
hanging around in DMC4
so I'm not sure...

I'm not sure if it's a secret ending (it's been an incredibly long time since I last played this), but if you recall (probably during HER ending),
Lucia hears a motorcycle pull up outside of Devil May Cry (the shop), and runs to see.
We don't get visual confirmation of the person's identity, but the indication's heavily there.

Oh, well I never played her POV, so I guess did miss a couple of things >_<

Man, the missions are still as tricky though. I don't have a clue what I'm suppose to do in Mission 3 in DMC4 - how do you raise your style rank WITHOUT attacking? :ness:

You know how you can 'grab' enemies with your arm? Well, if you hold the button down, you're effectively using that enemy as a shield - one which other enemies will attack. Obviously this is very time consuming and impossible to do on every enemy (duh), but some people recommend Table Hopper as well to finish some of them off. Taunting is useful to encourage attack rates of enemies too, which is definitely beneficial if you use one of them as shields 'til they die.

I've read that another way is to jump as high as you can, Snatch them (not actually an attack), then use Enemy Step to deal damage.

You'll probably find it worth-while to re-visit this secret mission later on though, when you're more likely to have all the necessary abilities to pull this one off successfully. Either way, it's incredibly hard and requires a lot of patience/concentration. xD

I just got through my first play through of DMC4 last night (well, early this morning technically <_< >_>), and yeah, I was expecting some big epic revelation to befall Nero, but nothing was ever said about Vergil being his dad

He fixed the Yamato, sure, but how did that prove Vergil is his father?

Actually, I don't even really know anything about Nero now that I think about it. He has Sparda blood in him according to other people, so he would be related to Dante and Vergil, but that's really it. And he was born with that demon arm.

...You know, whose to say Sparda didn't have a 3rd son born after the twins? xD
