Brand new or second hand?

I prefer things as new as possible.

As for games, I do like bargains also and second hand games occasionally when it is too late to get the game new, or if it is too expensive to get it new and I don’t care about it that much. If it is a game series I love I tend to want a new copy. Or if it is a game series I haven’t played before, I might get it second hand if that is the best way to get it..

In terms of consoles it has to be new for me. Like you say, I don’t want to inherit some problems I’ll have to deal with when they surface later. It's much better to get things like that brand new.

Are you the sort of person who looks for bargains and doesn't care if it's new or not? As long as it works?

Or are you like me and have to have it come brand spanking new in it's original packaging?

Or are you sort of in between and don't really mind either way as long as you get it?
I tend to be in between.

When it comes to electronics like a TV, I prefer brand new.

When looking for a games console, I have bought both...though thinking about it, I seem to go for new since the only second hand console I own is a PS2. :hmmm: And those both smell of cigarette smoke. :(

If we're talking games and DVDs, I tend to shop around and look for the best bargain.

With games, second hand is fine as long as the product is in good condition. Nevertheless, I will buy new if second hand is only marginally cheaper. If a game's £30 new but £28 second hand, I will buy new. If it's £20 and £10 second hand, I'll probably go for second hand.

DVDs... I will spend as little on them as I can 'cause they have absolutely no resale value whatsoever. :monster: I tend to wait for the price to drop, though. Wait a few months and you can get most movies new for £5, as opposed to the £15 they start at. (This does not apply to movies I REALLY want, which I will happily spend £15 on).

Books... I used to buy second hand, but most of them just feel dusty, damp and dirty. I can't face reading any of the second hand books I've bought. I feel like I have to keep on washing my hands. And I keep on having images of past owners reading them on the toilet. :gonk:

For games, I always buy them new and that I only buy second-hand games if they're the only copies available and that they're in good condition at least.

Books I would always buy new because whenever I buy second-hand books, they tend to fall apart a few weeks or months later. :hmm:

For anything else I would buy brand new as I prefer things like electronics to last longer.

I know someone in the world is probably doing disgusting things to the items they sell second hand.

I try to avoid it whenever possible, but I do have a lot of things I picked up on a second hand basis. :ohshit: Mostly from people I knew and somewhat trusted.

I accidentally dropped a book in the toilet once when I was reading. :ohshit:

Thankfully, I already flushed. :argor:

Depends what I'm buying.

I will not buy electronic things secondhand, that's a bit risky coz if it breaks you got no warranty. I will also not buy clothing secondhand, I don't like the idea of wearing something someone else has had on :damon:

I don't mind buying games secondhand so long as I can have a look at the disk and make sure it's not scratched up, my old bed was secondhand haha, secondhand furniture is cool too if it looks good.

Some things I might get used...like books for school (although those days are over with now), books for myself, or a game from the game place IF its reasonably priced and I can see there's no scratches on it, or things of that nature. My mom used to hit a lot of rummage sales a couple of years ago and I got some pretty cute decorations for the house (I decorate my room/house in shabby chic/country decorations)....and some unused hand lotions since I go through a ton a lotion because I wash my hands about 100+ times a day at work.

Otherwise, everything I get is new. I only buy new consoles, pc's, clothes, and movies. Getting used clothes would give me the heebie jeebies :damon: Even if I were to throw something in the washer. Once we had someone who was having an estate sale across the street from our house about a month or so ago...and someone bought a used mattress. I saw them carrying it out the door. I cringed. I know it's hard times for a lot of people nowadays but...:(

I would not buy something that someone else has worn before, that would be very weird I think. Though I used to always have to wear my brothers' hand me downs, so most of those would be ten plus years old when I got them. There was this kick-ass red jumper with race cars on it though, so I remember looking forward to having that passed down. I was around six then

I used to never want to buy games or DVDs second-hand, but that changed in the past year or so. It is much cheaper to get them second-hand, and they are normally in great condition. I can buy three games that are maybe six months old, for the price of one game that just came out. Things I really like though, I would probably buy new though despite the price hike

If it's a DVD or video game, it has to be new. I won't except scratches or any of that stuff.

If it's a console, than I don't mind if it's used or refurbished. As long as it's been checked, and it'll play.
