So.. I was flicking through my facebook out of boredom, and one of my mates told me that the new MK game that's gunna be released soon, is actually Banned in Australia!?

I thought i should share the news seeing as there are a tiny amount of Australians on the forum :ryan:

Any other 'banned games' you all now of? share the news here :)

The only banned game I can think of off the top of my head is 'Manhunt'. Most games end up releasing a censored version if they are too controversial, I reckon Mortal Kombat will end up doing this too.

As I'm aware of, countries kind of have their own attitudes to certain games and systems in place to determine what happens to a game before they officially hit the market. I don't think we in the UK at the moment have any officially banned games at all - our BBFC has never really totally refused classification of any game indefinitely, though this did nearly happen with Manhunt 2 as far as I know of. Though seeing as people can purchase that game now in the UK, I assume that Rockstar got around this refusal of classification by proposing edits to tone down some violent elements of the game. Still, the UK system is more liberal than in Germany and Australia, both of which have strict censorship laws.

Off the top of my head I can't name any banned games but I know every other big release [through reportings via VG247] is banned in the United Arab Emirates. Unless there is actually a top reason I don't see the point in banning videogames because a) you'll just get it elsewhere and b) if the reason it's banned bothers people so much they won't buy it. It seems to be more of a government issue more than anything.

Have you guy's heard of the game called Rapelay?
It's a game were you gotta beat the pis outta women and rape them.
I never heard of this game till about a year ago i saw a new's bit about it being banned.
Since it is abit sick, all the rapin an all.

;))

I've seen someone review it. It's nothing that bad actually, compared to the ridiculous hentai out there. In fact there are Hentai that are 10 times more explicit and repulsive. Again they are beating up on it for the interaction factor. Not that I advocate a game about rape, but I'm just pointing out the logic here.

Id hate to be a german gamer. Those guys ban and censor everything. Im sure i read somewhere that they ensure that blood is never red in any games. Theyl change it to something like green or blue. Maaaaaaaaadness.

There is a game out there that enables you to kill students and teachers on a schoool..like what happened on Columbine its sickening..I bet that got banned..thhey oughta..

I think the game Rapelay was banned from Western countries or atleast in the United States. Basically, its a rape simulation game. You stalk girls, rape them, and their family members. I don't like the content of the game but I don't necessarily think it should be banned.

See. Making a game like that...i just dont get it. A game where your goal is to stalk and rape woman? Thats just fucking ridiculous. What kinda arsehole are you before you decide to make a game like that? Im very much against censorship. That however is jsut daft and something that shouldnt be sold ever. And if you buy something like that your a total weirdo tbh.

Yeah, this is the game I was gonna post. It was banned, because of the plot which involves raping a young female and I believe you later rape her mother?

Honestly, why would such a game be made, or in the least, why would they try to sell it on amazon publicly? :shame:

I definitely think the rape game should be banned... why on earth would anyone want to play that?? Why would anyone want to make something like that in the first place? Its beyond me!

anyway, I found a list of banned games on the wiki, and it also lists the games that were later released with edits.... *cries over the Australian version of L4D2*

The rape game only gained the notoriety it got because third party sellers were trying to flog it on Amazon when the developer strictly wanted to keep it in Japan. Nevertheless though, it really does sicken me that it didn't directly flout Japan's rules or anything and that there is even demand for this sort of thing. The developer from what I understand usually make games tamer, though similar in content, then just took it further with this one. Why on earth you would want to make a rape game I have absolutely no idea. Rape is just terrible and I fail to see any entertainment value in a rape game - though that's purely because I'm definitely not the target audience for it. Japan had the right to keep it in distribution if they wanted to, but it was right to have it banned elsewhere. I'm usually critical of censorship, but this is definitely an occasion that warranted it. >.>

your right man, rape stuff should be banned. Rape is alot worse then murder i think. Well, murder is very terrible also but rape i think is even worse. I thought i heard somewhere that rapist's in jail get treated like shit.
And they get beat up and killed an what not in there, oh ya it was the comedian chris rock who was talking about this. Saying something like, a murderer talkin to a rapist would say "ya, i might have killed a hundred people but you are sick man. sick."

But ya, murderin people in game's is fun. But i'd never dream to play some game about rape. :gasp:

It made me laugh, reading that list, that in China one of the Command and Conquer games is banned for 'smearing the image of China and the Chinese army'. That's bonkers, it's just a game, and it even says China is a protagonist, not an antagonist... :wacky:

And football manager '05, banned for recognising tibet as an independant country.

Also, all the ones banned in Germany because of Nazi references :gonk: surely every German knows about the Nazis, what's the point in banning the game just because it mentions Nazis :gonk:

To be fair, the Rapelay one deserves to be banned. It's one thing making a game where people get killed but it's an entirely different thing making a game where you stalk and rape people, which to me, sounds like the company are promoting it likes it's some sort of erotic, good thing. 8(

It's interesting looking at the list of countries with the banned games and seeing how some strict some are compared to the others. Some places are really, really "meh everything will be alright " while some are like " VIOLENCE AND SEX IS BAD, VERY BAD ". I can understand the German banning with the Nazi's though, who wants to remember a sad and bloody past ? It will just add guilt to them and make them feel awkward. imo anyways.

I remember way back when, around the mid-90's, there was a game banned that was basically about killing Jews. I don't recall what the game was called, and I think it was a computer game as well. It had swastika's littered everywhere and the objective of the game was to kill 6 Jews. That's pretty disturbing overall. A good call on their part for killing that game.
