Underneath the bloodstained pile of hacked up stringy creature-things is an epic tale, maybe. According to Square Enix, Nier is their next great story.

The story so far is, Nier is searching for a cure to save his daughter who caught the deadly Black Scrawl virus. Kaine is a demon possessed swords-futanari who travels with Nier. Her motives and why she loves to swear are unclear. There’s a magical flying book called Grimoire Weiss that follows Nier and powers him up too.

Yosuke Saito, the producer of Drakengard and Radiata Stories, is Nier’s producer. In a past interview, Saito said the theme of Nier is “love”. Perhaps, love for Nier’s daughter or sister in Nier Replicant. But, hey nothing is what it seems in Nier so “love” may represent Nier’s love for killing things.

One bit amused me in that trailer.

"Somewhere Deep In The future"

I know the story is meant to be fantasy-like, but I can't help but find it funny that if it is the future, why are people wearing medieval armour and using swords? 8F

SE probably has a list of crazy ideas as to what they think the west likes in a game. Swearing in dialogue is probably near the top of that list. Which may be one of the reasons why Kaine is there. :ryan:

tht's nothing like final fantasy =[ plus i dont like the grafix, i dono wat's gonna happen to future final fantasy... =[

:hmmm: This piqued my interest.

Finally, something a bit more mature. I've been growing bored of the high pitched kid protagonists so something other than that is always good.

IMO, more mature story lines are more captivating. I can at least relate to them more.

Hope this doesn't turn into a God Of War clone though.

I remember when the images were posted up and his "daughter" was wearing sweet fa! And the blood is unusual for SE isnt it? Im not impressed from that trailer, gameplay looks too hack and slash for my tastes and the whole "somewhere deep in the future" just screams shitty to me.

Well a one minute and six second-long trailer isn't really enough for me to base judgement on this game at all really. Though I will say that my interest has definitely been piqued. I'd like to see some more on this. I'm definitely curious. Of course I don't think anything could beat Final Fantasy as that is my first love in RPG console gaming (and maybe even MMO if it turns out that I grow a fondness for XIV), however I'm intrigued that they're giving us something a bit more mature as well as hack n slash. Definitely would love to see more!

It looks interesting enough, but I have to agree that there's no where near enough footage to make a judgement on the "next great story", I'd worry if they weren't trying to hype the game up a little :wacky: All being said, I hope it's not a God of War rip off either, especially since Dante's Inferno and Darksiders have already claimed that title >.>

Wait....The producer of Drakengard made Nier?

Oh dear, I wasn't very fond of the first Drakengard game (haven't checked out the second one quite yet) so now I'm feeling a little more less inclined to the game - along with the meathead character I already distaste -_-

We loved Drakengard, so it's nice to know that they're up to something new. We can't wait for it to come out.

Also, Fusionist... PLAY DRAKENGARD 2 NOW! Right this instant, we demand it. :mokken:

I'll have to look more into this game I mean who knows? From the trailer it doesn't look that bad IMO but maybe if I researched over it more I might be more interested. It's hard to say weather or not its the 'next big thing' because I don't really know much about it nor is there a lot of footage/ screen shots etc over the game so i'll get onto that. :monster:
But thanks for that! :)

What misses said. It's too short of a trailer to start saying "IT'S AWESOME!" but I will keep my eye out for it. The graphics look bothersome, though. :starwars:

Looks pretty good, hopefully it won't be another FFXIII :(

I never though FFXIII looked good, but I do for this. I might end up liking it. I will have to wait for more news about it, of course! ^^

I love how some people say this looks mature. Just because it's violent and there is unnecessary swearing, doesn't mean it's more mature. Im semi excited for the game, but they have alot to prove with it. Especially since the person producing it produced Drakengard which wasnt exactly the best game in the world.

I wasn't much impressed by the trailer and I don't have much faith in Cavia as a developer really. I still can't help but feel just a little bit excited about this though, simply because the of the utterly bizarre cast of characters. demon-possessed Hermaphrodite heroine anyone? I wish Square would be that brave with Final Fantasy! (Okay maybe not that brave :wacky:)

Too much blood :sadpanda:

I don't like all that blood spattering. It's more mature, but more disturbing as well. I might have to get over that fact in order to play, but so far it looks great otherwise :monster:

lol square enix think that their the best company in the world by making all these great n intresting rpg games, their arrogant. I guess nier will be more mature then the final fantasy series, especially versus,as of the trailer,it seems so.
