Final Fantasy is a great series and I enjoy the franchise as a whole but what would happen if the series never existed? I cannot imagine a world without Chocobos, Uematsu music, endearing protagonists or Big freaking swords and although there are other JRPGs out there that are just as good (or sometimes better) as Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy just has that special magic that I cannotr find in other games especially when it was one of the few JRPGs that actually broke out of the medieval setting with FFVII and into something somewhat modern. I like the series and I cannot imagine a world without it but what would change and what will remian the same?

Who knows? FFVII did set a standard for future RPGs, but if it hadn't of, I'm sure some other game would have.

I'm more of a Sakuraba fan than an Uematsu fan, so the thought of a lack of Uematsu music doesn't bother me that much.

I expect a great many people wouldn't be as interested in video games if FF didn't exist, though. A lot of people I know enjoy video games because the first (or one of the first) that they played was a Final Fantasy game.

A world without Final Fantasy isnt worth living in!!!!!

*jumps off of a 5-story building*

If Final fantasy didnt exist, then Id still be playing pokemon to this day =P

There would probably be another type of epic story that we would all lust for. It would be called : Last Legacy... I guess.

I, for one, would have not gotten back into gaming. When I younger, I would watch my cousins play video games all the time, they had all the new systems back then. I first got into Grand Theft Auto, but just for smashing people with bats and running them over with my car. Later, I would get into the missions and such, but then they got too hard. I slowly got out of video games because that was all I knew about video games, I had no idea that there was an RPG that was 100x better than what I was doing.

Enough story-telling. In a world without Final Fantasy, I would be bored as shit. But like Sorrelstar said, there would probably be a game, but not nearly as good, and we'd get into it anyway because we wouldn't have known about Final Fantasy. I don't think anything else would be different... except probably a lot more people wouldn't know about JRPG's.

The FF series was what got me into RPGs in the first place. So Im not sure what would have happened with my RPG love. Hopefully I would have discovered them. But the FF series IMO is more emotional and moving then most RPGs, so thank God they do excist!!

I would probably never play RPGs. The game that really got me into the RPG genre was Kingdom Hearts, which has a lot of Final Fantasy characters in it. The game that got me into turn-based RPGs is Lost Odyssey, which was headed by someone that had something to do with Final Fantasy (I can't remember the specifics). So basically, I would have never gotten into RPGs.

Without Final Fantasy, I can't imagine where I'd be. For one, I wouldn't be an avid RPG player had it exist. The FF Forums wouldn't exist and I wouldn't be here, neither will anyone else.

Games like Kingdom Hearts wouldn't exist. Squaresoft would be long dead from bankruptcy, Enix will still be developing Dragon Quest for Japan only.

The west will ultimately not understand and appreciate RPGs because FFVII was the game that brought the genre to the masses.

I for one would not still be a gamer without FF. I'd just poke at some of the old SNES classics from time to time and not bother with any of the newer generation games. There are other titles I love, but they wouldn't have given me that push to buy a console, which means I would have missed out on a huge number of great titles. I would also, possibly, have more of a life. :)

I've been making my way through the series again, so as I was playing the first game, I was actually thinking about this. Square would have gone under, so no other Square titles I love. No Chrono Trigger, no Xenogears. I believe FF was the first to use multiple characters and enemies onscreen in an RPG? Probably someone else would have done this, but it would have been later. VII broke into a more modern setting and made the way for shiny, high budget titles. Someone would eventually use more non-standard settings, I'm sure (Earthbound already did) but I don't know if RPGs would have become as mainstream and high budget as they have. It's hard to say how all this would have affected other RPG series I love, or whether they would even exist, but... it really wouldn't matter to me, because I probably wouldn't be playing them.

If there was no FF we wouldn't know what we were missing anyway and probably find something else for us all to fan wank over

I know one thing for sure though, if FF never existed, I'd have saved alot of money 8F

I wouldnt have bothered with the PS1 I don't think, i had an N64, which I traded in for a PS1 so I could get FFVII (which I played by chance one one time) I'd probably just game from time to time and still go back to my SNES and stuff, saying that, Id of experienced PS2s eventually, I was with an ex for 3+ years and he had one, I got well into TimeSpliters 2 and Tony Hawks 3. I'd probably just be a casual gamer, and play as and when the fancy took me, though those 2 games sucked HOURS out of my life, so I guess with me, the only thing that would change would be not having FF eating huge chunks out of my life, just the odd other game. THAT AND I'D OF HAD MORE MONEY :rage:

If FF did not exist there is a chance I might have actually gotten into shooters. Thank god that didn't happen.

In fact, to add to what I said before- without FF, I would have zero appreciation for Japanese things.

Ever since I fell in love with FF, I have simultaneously fallen in love with the cute, brilliant and crazy things from Japan. If it wasn't for FF, I wouldn't be plotting my next trip to Japan with the purpose of buying a Moogle plush on my agenda.

I wouldn't be as fond of literature had it not been for some emotive and beautiful FF stories, particularly in FFX and FFVI. Heck, I wouldn't be the aspiring writer apprentice I would be today without it! Final Fantasy educates! Who cares if it's "nerdy" to love the series? I don't care, because I benefited from it! :P

Oh well, I guess I'd become a Tales only Franchise nut and a Guitar Hero addict. But wait... that's kind of how it is now, isn't it? :wacky:

I found anime on my own and have always loved guitar, so I don't think a world without Final Fantasy would change me much.

On the upside, at least there'd be no batshit queer Sephiroth fans. :wacky:

I think Kelly nailed it with the fact if there was no Final Fantasy then we'd just find something else anyway. I love the series and Square-Enix titles on the whole but when it comes to actually playing Final Fantasy, I haven't done that in a good title in a year now due to the length it's taking to release FFXIII. At the end of the day I'd just find another series like Ratchet & Clank, Modern Warfare etc that have as much credibility. It's just that Final Fantasy titles tend to go into a lot more depth in the storyline and characters which is why they're easily one of the leading gaming companies :)

Blasphemy.

I've stated in a previous thread that I would probably not be as into video games if it wasn't for FF. I mean, they got me started in the first place. I just can't imagine not drooling over the new screenshots of an upcoming FF and reading about the characters and then getting to explore it on my own when I finally get the game. That's the best part of it, I think.

Anyway, I probably would not be a gamer if it wasn't for FF. I would probably be very boring. ;P

if Final Fantasy never existed, I never would have got into RPG's in the first place, and would probably be into some other genera of games, I'm grateful these games exist because I love RPGs ^^

So if it never existed then...we wouldn't have to fight over who's more badass,Cloud or Sephiroh?
Or the other great argument.Who did Cloud really love?Tifa or Aeris? This forum wouldn't exist either or any other forum dedicated to FF.It's kinda sad but we wouldn't know what we're missing.
For me,I wouldn't have joined the forums and I wouldn't have bothered spending many hours in front of the computer screen if FF didn't exist. And I'd never try out RPGs if it weren't for it.

I would have probably not even got into gaming again in the first place.

I was completely isolated from any kind of console after the age of 14 until one day my old friend showed me FFX.

Ever since then that's all I play. Only Final Fantasy and sometimes some of Steve's games, but other than that nothing.

I wouldn't have found my love for RPG's without Final Fantasy I reckon. <3

I would have never got into RPGs or, maybe we would be talking about another game, DQ probably?

If there was no Final Fantasy, I would have never became a gamer. It all started with a google search: "Final Fantasy movies". I was stupid back then, ok? I thought all of the games had movies.
