This appears to be Final Fantasy Type-0's main map. I'm not sure if it's legit or not, but it was apparently ripped from the recent demo.

The "Preistylium Suzaku" landmark circled in the image is your school. Here it is from close up:

Like most Final Fantasy games, you'll be able to explore the world map by foot, Chocobo and air ship. Unlike most Final Fantasy games, though, you'll also find yourself taking part in large army-vs-army battles directly on the world map.

When posting images, it's perhaps better to just rehost them on a site like Imageshack or Tinypic as hotlinking can often be problematic.

I cant see the pic, but I am loving the idea of a huge worldmap where you can travel by chocobo :ohoho: and airship..thats nostalgia baby!

The army vs army ON the world map aspect is awesome, it reminds me of that Japanese RTS samurai game.

The Final Fantasy Type-0 map looks really nice. It kinda reminds me of Final Fantasy XII's world in a way. XII's map was pretty huge and it is sort of similar to the type-0 map. This one is even bigger though. Airship does bring back the older FF games and Chocobo is the same like always. Army vs army sounds really awesome. A bit like XII with all the empires and such. I really can not wait to explore this immense map.

My definition of "tremedously huge" has been considerably changed since coming into contact with Xenoblade, so if Type-0 can hold a candle to that, I'll be very surprised indeed. xD

The army-vs-army mechanic sounds an awful like Lost Odyssey to me, though...as boring as that game was, the opening sequence was absolutely fantastic, and I'd love to see something like that implemented. Complete with siege machines and people in silly hats. xD

Siliconera likes using hyperbole anyway, so you're right not to take the word "tremendously" too seriously. I suppose you can deduce the fact that Orience will be significantly larger than the other traditional FF overworlds we've seen, which is very likely. So in FF standards, the map may seem "tremendous". I really don't think you're meant to compare this to world maps like Daggerfall's Tamriel or Just Cause 2's Panau because Type-0 was never made to be those kind of games. xD

Well if it's bigger than Final Fantasy XII's map then I might be a bit impressed :gasp: FFXII's is probably one of the biggest in terms of scale.

Except that FFXII doesn't have a traditional overworld, i.e. world map in the sense that FFIX and before had which was more of what I was getting at. But who knows, it's possible that Type-0 could somehow surpass it. Not many PSP games ship on 2 UMDs after all. :gasp:

Huge maps are fun I suppose. The initial feeling of freedom into a large world map to go explore hasn't been used since...IX? They were a integral part of the classic FF games, so maybe SQ is going back to its roots? ;)

Yeah but ultimately giant world maps are...empty.

True, it can be awesome stumbling upon an old, decrepit castle (ala FF VI) but ultimately the old games only "appear" large. XII was much larger, as everywhere you went had a purpose and unique monsters. X and XIII "appeared" small only because of their linearity. Besides that, they're rather large, which is a rather funny contradiction.

I really hope they add a lot of places to the world map. That'll make traversing the map much easier. I think Golden Sun is a good model on how to handle a world map correctly.

Armies battling on the world map makes me think of a RTS like... Warcraft? In any case, I like the idea of free exploration. If I'm not wrong, FFX (which, sadly, is the latest Final Fantasy I managed to get my hands on after X-2) did not really offer complete freedom in exploring the game world.
