Hello PlayStation fans! It doesn’t feel that long ago that I was here bringing you the exciting news of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX’s European release. Today, I’m happy to be able to return with some equally awesome news! FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2 will be getting the same high definition treatment – being released in Europe this year!
For those of you who love to lounge around at home with your PlayStation 3 and a big telly, you’ll get both FINAL FANTASY X and X-2 bundled together on one disc, called FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster. If however you find yourself always on the go, trying to sneak in a quick gaming session during your lunch break, then FINAL FANTASY X HD Remaster and FINAL FANTASY X-2 HD Remaster will be available separately for PS VITA.

Final Fantasy fans will be excited to know that they’re not just getting a mind-blowingly beautifully HD version of the game they love, oh no! Both games are based on the International version, which is the most complete, feature-heavy iteration of each game to release. The International version of FINAL FANTASY X-2 never made it to European shores before, so there’s quite a chunk of additional content for you to dive into!

The International version of FINAL FANTASY X introduces an Expert version of the Sphere Grid in which all the characters start in the middle and you can choose any path… but there are fewer nodes and therefore a decrease in the number of upgrades available – challenging indeed! This edition also includes new abilities, new superbosses (Dark Aeons and Penance), and more.
FINAL FANTASY X-2 is also getting the International treatment, high definition graphics and more content than I can list! But you’ll have to wait a little bit longer until we reveal the full list of enhancements and extra features.

So all in all that’s pretty great stuff, huh? We know you’ve been eager to hear more so let me leave you with the exciting news that you’ll be getting a trailer on March 25 – make sure to pop back here then!
Got any questions? Feel free to leave them in the comments and we’ll answer what we can. For the latest news on FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, or if you’re just looking to chat with a fellow gamer then feel free to say hi on Benbateman.

Well, even though I've played both games somewhat recently (sometime last year), I think I'll still get a copy of these two because 1) The HD remastered work looks pretty nice and 2) at least there's new content to look forward to, so it won't feel too repetitive I hope... I don't think they've added as much content and new features as P4 did with P4G, but it's good enough I suppose. Looking forward to hearing more about FFX-2! I'm one of the few who enjoys that game. ^^;

I just can't decide the PS3 or Vita versions. On the one hand, portable FF10/10-2 would be amazing, but on the other hand the PS3 will probably have the better visuals I think? And having them both on one disk sounds so good too (not because of laziness but just for that game selection menu that'll be on loadup /geek).

Sigh, someone help me decide.

But anyways, those screenshots look like a pretty big improvement. FF10 is quite blurry now-a-days, and it has really rough edges, so there's no doubt they've put a bit of effort into this remaster.

Also, I wonder what the new content on 10-2 will be? From the international version? Will have to wait and see :)

I'm at a loss at which version to get as well... :hmmm: At one point, I'd like to add more games to my Vita collection. At the same time though, why buy two separate games when you can buy them both together? xD

In that case, I guess it depends on the price point? Vita games are usually $40 and PS3 games are usually $60. If the bundle is gonna be $60, then I'd opt for that, but if it'll be much more than that, I might as well get the Vita versions. -_-

Mehh. I guess when it gets closer to the release date, I'll have a clearer idea of what I wanna do. xD;

Okay, Having seen I no longer see any point. I thought the reasoning behind this HD remake was to boost the visuals:

I was expecting character models like this through out the game:

However I looked further upon the images and saw this:

Why have they gone back to these character models with lower textures again, I am utterly baffled by this. I could accept the 2 different character models at the time. But surely the Blu-ray can handle the full game with the hi-res character models. This is utterly disappointing, why go through all this to make the character look just as poor as the original game...

Here is an image comparing the original lower character model to the higher one:

This HD re-release should make the Yuna on the left a thing of the past, not impressed at all.

using the higher models throughout the game mean that they would have to reanimate alot of scenes, and would cause a much bigger development time, and you would then moan that their is a too big development time for a remaster

The "low poly" models are reskinned too, and I think the difference is obvious. There's more detail in them -- take Lulu's collar and braids for example. Replacing all the game models with cutscene renders is probably just a tricky thing to do.

Either way the game looks amazing and I am looking forward to a preorder~

Not really, the environments look find. As for re-anmiation, I don't see how that is necessary, they cant they just replace the character model which would correspond, it's not like the lower ploy models have lip syncing or anything that advanced.

it not that, adding a different model to a animation can make it screw up, and badly, it not as simple as copy + paste, the bones have to be done so it animates correctly

here what happens if you just copy/paste

Gorgeous! Compared to what FFX looked like before to what these screenshots are showing, it's a pretty significant improvement in my eyes. Also the Dark Aeons AND new skills and stuff? Sign me up! I might actually give X-2 a try as well :)

They've definitely made better the character models as well. See the difference:

It's pretty impressive. I wasn't sure if it would be worth the buy, but after seeing this I'm definitely getting it. Plus the mention of extras, plus both X and X-2 on the same disk. I'm excited.

Thanks for the comparisons, Sheechiibii ! After initially being disappointed at how little is being updated, I'm actually coming to appreciate what is being done more and more. The games could stand to look even more up-to-date, sure, but the difference is significant and will certainly make it enjoyable to play the games again. Won't be hearing any complaints from me come the day I boot FFX HD up on my PS3!

Nice! I can't see it on the UK Amazon site, nor the Game site yet, but I can't wait now. The nerdgasms have started :gonk:

yeah, the preorders are not up on any of the uk sites yet sadly :(, might have to wait til monday's trailer

Just keep an eye on the website, it should pop up eventually!

I'm hoping the trailer on Monday will give us an official release date. Right now Amazon just has it as December 31st since they don't know and that's the very end of the year, lol.

This is awesome to hear X-2 will be on the same disc as X!

Wasn't as in love with X-2 as X but I still really enjoyed it. :-)

Definitely will be buying the PS3 version. :-)

Not that I have a Vita for it to compete with anyway. XD Never have time for handheld consoles. :hmmm: When I did have the time I was always at home and much rather play the PS3.

Anyway, FFX was always my favourite game so I will definitely be keen to have this on the PS3.

It's my only console set up at the moment while we're living with my parents and my PS2 and PS2 copy of FFX are all boxed away so I haven't played them in ages!

I never got to finish X-2. Think I got to 90% or something. Shame I can't upload my saved game data from my PS2 to my PS3 so I can continue.
