Star Ocean and End of Eternity developer tri-Ace is currently working on Frontier Gate for PSP and Beyond the Labyrinth for 3DS. But it turns out that in addition to these portable projects, the studio was contributing to development of another major project.

tri-Ace producer Yichiro Kitao, who worked on the programming aspects of End of Eternity (Resonance of Fate), the Valkyrie Profile series, and Star Ocean 3, revealed today at Twitter that the studio took part in the development of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Square Enix enlisted tri-Ace's help for game design, artwork, programming, and other areas of the game.

While the tri-Ace name does not appear in an official context, you can see tri-Ace staffers in the FFXIII-2 credits

i wonder what people will think considering people say these games that tri ae worked on are the newer rpg standard

Honestly Tri-ace is a hit and miss RPG company. when they hit, they really hit, but when they miss, they really do miss (in my opinion) So this doesn't change anything about my thinking about XIII-2, and lets admit it, Square already had their hands all over this, they might be working on some "fine tuning" because it is way to late to do anything about anything now, for the game is due in a little over a month.

:srsly:

So, Square Enix aren't even capable of making their bullshit games by themselves anymore, and feel the need to drag tri-Ace down with them? How...annoying. tri-Ace are one of the few developers I still have a high regard for, because of the likes of Resonance of Fate that have kept the JRPG genre from plummeting into what people make it out to be. I suppose a job is a job, though. Still...ugh.

tri-ace is probably the worst game developer on the market that just keeps producing garbage like 3D Star Ocean games, resonance of fates and so on, so it's seems almost ironic that Square would even consider them.

Aww, Tri-Ace staff could have at least influenced the game's battle system enough so that it becomes slightly more Star Ocean-like and less of the Auto-Battle. That would have been one thing that could have interested me, but alas...

It does make some sense though. No wonder Lightning Valkyrie is there, her outfit looking as though it was plucked straight out of Asgard.

If Tri-Ace still does business with Square-Enix (I thought they fell out after Star Ocean 4, hence their collaboration with Sega for Resonance instead), does this mean there's still the chance of another Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean in the future? I'm more eager for the former than the latter, because Star Ocean 4, ugh, has annoyed and bored me.

I personally like this idea, I loved star ocean 4 was pretty awesome :D and I can see some tri ace stuff there (like lightning costume) but I always liked the look of the game before tri ace said they worked on it, but I still can't wait for the game :)

it a shame tri ace fell out after star ocean 4, I love star ocean and I want them to make more games :D

Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean were both pretty good series and both contained a battle system far superior to Final Fantasy XIII (I have yet to play Resonance of Fate, but plan to start it within the next few days).

Like Fleur, I wish Tri-Ace had had more of an influence over the battle system. It could have been far more strategic and original, but c'est la vie.

Does anyone know specifically what they have influenced? Lightning's design could have been inspired by the Poetic Edda or Norse art rather than Tri-Ace's games... even if Lightning's costume was inspired by these games, that doesn't necessarily mean the staff from Tri-Ace were involved.

Completely pointless. The game design and artwork weren't the main problem in Final Fantasy XIII, plus those two aspects of the game are completely subjective whether they are 'good' or not. That said, it's all going downhill if you're mean to be a 'big' game developer and you can't even develop your main IP without external help.

AT LEAST IT WON'T BE WESTERN SHIT!!!!

Im curious, where did Tri-Ace ever say they had a falling out with SE? The only thing I remember is the creator of Star Ocean said he was done with the series and did all he wanted to accomplish with it.

Apologies for that. It was just speculation I've come across on some online discussions based on the fact that Tri-Ace haven't collaborated with Square-Enix since SO4 and instead went with Sega instead for their next console project. I suppose that shouldn't have been worded as if it were factual, as I don't think it was ever stated unless I find something concrete about it.

That Valkyrie profile three announcement back then, about it being an xbox 360 exclusive and then was detailed to be an ps3 exclusive, as the previous statement was an error apparently. That was the last time we heard about a new VP game, but ever since, there has been no information on the game whatsoever. Think they will save it for this E3? Just a thought. Or was the announcement truly fake?
