I have no love for a sequel to XIII. XIII was a wretched game, because it forsook its loyal fans in favor of a more streamlined approach. Turn-based battling? Nah, we'll switch to Auto Battling. Explorable world? Nah, we'll make it even more linear than X. Control all 3 characters in battle? Nah, we'll let the A.I. take care of that.

I'm not saying XIII is a bad game, as far as games go, but it is a terrible Final Fantasy game. Maybe if I hid the title and just called it "New RPG" I might like it. But I don't like it because Square Enix doesn't care at all about me, the series, or JRPGs in general. They want the audience the First Person Shooters have, the Western RPGs have...they tried to appeal to everyone and for that reason alone I cannot forgive this game.

Do I want a sequel to that? Slap Final Fantasy on another game that has shit to do with the other games in the series besides chocobos and summons? Hell no.

...well, at the very least, I bet the graphics will be awesome. That's pretty much the only thing I love about XIII. The graphics. And that's just sad.

Let me just say, that SE is not above ruining bittersweet endings. So that thing that everybody thinks might happen but they don't want to happen... very well could happen.

I can't say I'm not surprised, they said a while ago they wanted to do a sequel. But I'm curious as to why this game over anything else. They still have a VII Compilation to finish. I think they realized that XIII was such a flop, based on fan reaction that maybe they're trying to compensate for it by bringing out a sequel, and maybe trying to fix what was wrong. Maybe they're after redemption. :hmmm:

....nah :wacky:

Please, Ringo, tell me you hacked a server and did this for the ultimate trolling. PLEASE. I don't see the trollface, and it's worrying me. This is a joke, right? RIGHT?!

...seriously. Have we not suffered enough? Must we endure yet another directionless plot with barely anything in the way of gameplay, appalling soundtrack and voice acting, and just general bullshit? Are Square Enix TRYING to commit financial suicide?

How could they POSSIBLY squeeze another story out of this?! They didn't squeeze any story whatsoever out of the first game! :rage:

This is just about the worst piece of news EVER. Seriously, I can't imagine anything worse than this. Even Toriyama taking over Square Enix would be preferable to this. This is so bad it defies the "it could be worse" argument. It's so bad it destroys what little faith I had that Square Enix would recover from the disaster that was 2010. It's so bad I have nothing to compare it to. I could not be more horrified, disgusted, and utterly baffled that Square Enix would even CONSIDER making a sequel to what is easily the worst "game" (and I use that word in the loosest possible way) they have ever created.

I am in despair. Square Enix have left me in despair.

FFXIII needs a sequel about as much as FFVII needs a remake. End of story.

...yes, I know they haven't even announced it yet. But I'm just bracing myself for the inevitable horror. Although how they could possibly make a game worse than FFXIII is beyond my ability to comprehend...

I really need to say nothing more, this post has everything I'd want to type out and more. Except for the fact that I'd want an FFVII remake, done correctly, of course. But when Wada spoke of 'revamping' the series, I knew he was blowing hot air. If this proves to be true, Wada is a marked man in my eyes. Versus NEEDS to do well at this point.

Truthfully, the sequel could be alot better considering there would be a while world to explore and not just Cocoon. They could make it the game it should have been to begin with to make up for it.

I liked the characters and the setting very much of the game. They have potential. They just floundered with the villains who were almost faceless and the run in the straight line model. The game could be linear, I have no problem with that, but please make it so I dont just run down a winding hallway for the majority of the game. While I would rather them finish the compilation of FFVII or make another game entirely, I wont write this off because I do believe it could be a good game.

Will they make it more like a game rather than a movie this time? Will they include an actual map? Towns? NPCs? Will they make it feel more like a FF game...?

If so and if this is true, I will probably buy it, if it doesn't take 30 years to get made. xD

I'm with what Martel said. I'd say I'm surprised...but I'm really not. I'd say I'm pissed...but I'm not. I just really think SE is out to create another (like Zed from MIB2 said) "scruddy pile of crap in a different wrapper."

I've got no love for the original 13...and because of that I'm not planning on buying this either. SE isn't out to create anything new that the fans want either...they just want to continue and beat their dead and dessicated horse called 13.

.... why?

What will this one be about? :hmmm: I'm not knockin' it, but I just gotta wonder what this will be about?

:hmmm: obviously Gran Pulse does have the old FF touch with its field............If they go two years into the future maybe they could have towns and cities in the game........Just like the old days.Remember Gran Pulse did have hints of civilisation like in oerba we see windmills, houses etc.

With this I doubt it will take long to make after all they can use the original game.........and they did once boast about the amount of things (places) they left out of the original game, which they even said possibly could of been enough to create a whole new game. With that I'm guessing two and half years? unlikely yes but it does seem like it won't take that long if you take into consideration what I said above.

Lol, I've ranted about this before. but I am so sick of the sequels. The first one wasn't all that good to begin with. Move on, and make a better one, kthxbi.

I would enjoy a sequal if they fixed the problems from the first one and expanded lots of the back story.

I honestly thought that the possibility of XIII ever gaining a sequel was absolute zippo cuz people said it only got an 8 in ratings, but I guess SE don't give a damn. Let's face it, Nomura just loves Lightning to much. Plus, Episode I was too much of a cliffhanger. Paradigm Shift system be gone!

Well, if they do make FF XIII-2, it should be downloadable content. They need to make sure it isn't as linear as the original FF XIII. I will definitely buy it if it comes out, so let's hope S-E releases it! Maybe package both XIII and XIII-2 in a double pack? For $60? Sounds good to me!

You either need to calm down or get a life (or both).
While you may not have enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII, lots of people did. In fact, critically, it was fairly well received. That said, there is clearly some things that could be improved in a sequel. If they tweak a few things, they could make a truly awesome game.
If you don't like it, simple, don't play it. If you don't want it, then don't buy it. But having to suffer through your obnoxious pink posts is starting to get annoying.

This is highly unnecessary. Leanne is allowed an opinion as you are allowed yours. There is no need to insult them for it. Please watch how you address other members in the future.

And lots of people didn't, it was shot down by a large majority of the Japanese fanbase who are Square-Enix's key audience. It has had mixed reception in the west too.

In fact, critically, it was fairly well received.
As someone else mentioned, it received the lowest review scores of any numbered Final Fantasy.

That said, there is clearly some things that could be improved in a sequel. If they tweak a few things, they could make a truly awesome game.
It would need more than a few tweaks, the problems lied at the core of the game. Linearity from start to finish, button mashing battle system, far too easy, lack of towns, lack of NPCs, lack of anything to do outside of the main storyline etc.

If you don't like it, simple, don't play it. If you don't want it, then don't buy it. But having to suffer through your obnoxious pink posts is starting to get annoying.
So basically, going by that logic, in general if you don't like a game you shouldn't play it which means games always receive highly positive reviews and have no need to improve because people shouldn't criticize it. Sounds great. People are going to hate it, and some people will love it. I loathed it but I wouldn't criticise people for liking it and the people who hate Final Fantasy XIII, or any form of entertainment for that matter, have just as much right to give an opinion as those who do like it.

You know what's strange (going off of Argar's post somewhat) its actually true about the Japanese audience not being very "impressed" by FF13. The internet isn't crawling with fanarts and whatnot like it is for every other title.

It was most likely because it was a movie rather than a game and there wasn't even any FF elements in it, not even a World map or maps in general.... :(

Well if this is a sequel, then hopefully they will add those things. I'm sure it would have been better that way. I know I would have liked it if it at least didn't have liner maps or some towns...

I'm disappointed not because it's FF XIII. I'm disappointed because SE could be doing other things , other things that the public or fanbase would enjoy and like better... I'm angry that they are doing this instead of FF 5 or FF6 DS/ PSP or a FF7 remake, or even get started on FF15 even...
To me FF13 wasn't even a very good game, let alone a good Final Fantasy so I'm not going to buy it, or download it. I was close on giving up on the future of FF games before and SE, and now I'm just one step closer. Sigh, any other good RPG series out there... ? The Tales series is still going good right...?

:sad3:

I think FFXIII, from general consensus falls into FFX-2 territory. You talk to people and they say FFX2 was terrible. I agree to an extent. The story was stupid for the most part. Towards the end it got better, but the majority of it wasnt great. BUT, the battle system was awesome. It was really quick paced and was interesting. I think the game deserves a little more credit than it gets.

FFXIII was by no means a bad game. Extremely linear, yes, and the story, while not bad suffered from weak villians and not enough back story being explained even though it had the potential to be very rich. This is why Im hopefuly for a sequel if we are going to get one. They already have the majority of the engine finished besides maybe some tweaking like how they do to FFX for FFX2. So it frees them up to expand on the ideas they had.

Id rather have them be working on the next game in the FFVII compilation since Dirge left it wide open, but what can you do.

Symphonia, Id say play Eternal Sonata, Resonance of Fate, Nier, and hell, get a handheld like the PSP or DS. Both have TONS of great RPG;s on them
