So here we are, at the end of Final Fantasy XIV Version 1.0. In just over an hour, the final battle for Eorzea will begin in Mor Dhona with all worlds shutting down at 3:00am (Eastern US Standard Time) Sunday morning. It’s the last hurrah for the game as we know it! We’ll be covering the event in pictures through this post, as well as bringing you the brand-new trailer that will debut tonight (or early tomorrow morning).

In addition to that, the staff of Final Fantasy XIV will be bringing us a live stream of the newest Letter from the Producer Live where we’ll get a healthy update on the progress of A Realm Reborn. That kicks off at 5:00am Eastern US Standard Time.

Are you logged into Final Fantasy XIV tonight to experience the event or witnessing it from afar? Let us know your parting thoughts of Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 and what you’re anticipating with A Realm Reborn!

The video is worth watching even if you know nothing/very little about FFXIV (like me). It's epic!

That was quite depressing. ;__; Especially seeing the Elvaan man (forgot what they're called in FFXIV, lol) try to grin and bear it at the end. :/

That was a very powerful song as well! I remember hearing it at the Distant Worlds concert a few years ago. It accompanied this video perfectly. :3

So let me get this straight: They weaved the fact they had to heavily revamp the game and make a bunch of corrections, into the storyline of the game's world? So in the story of Final Fantasy XIV, the world sucked, so it got Rapture'd. And this wouldn't have happened otherwise if the game wasn't 4.5/10s across the board when it came out?

The video was still epic and beautiful though.

Well, if you've got to end a game so that it can be properly remade, this is the way for it to go down! That video sent shivers down my spine. Here's to a great Realm Reborn.

That was pretty epic, Im looking forward to the rebirth of this game

Lets just say that the world probably had nothing left of it, what an epic way to go out :P I am interested into seeing how A Realm Reborn turns out :)

They've not lost their touch when it comes to the flashy, expensive, admittedly unnecessary, but damn impressive CGI. However, it's their game output and how good their games actually are that matters in the end. The CGI are just a nice bonus to remind everyone that it's what Square are still good at (except for realistic facial expressions).

I guess I do admire a team under a man called Yoshi-P willing to undergo that gargantuan task of nuking an absurdly massive cock-up that his predecessors left behind and rebuilding it all from the ground up. Sure, it's meant that most other large projects may have been held back temporarily with all the manpower needed for ARR - and it's been a giant financial sinkhole and a giant knock at Square's reputation - but what I've seen so far of the new version looks rather good. It's starting to resemble a decent successor FFXII. But actually online.

Oh well. I don't think I'll ever touch it. a) can't justify the monthly fee when goodness knows how often I may be playing for, b) my interwebs sucks, c) do I even have much of a will to game anymore nowadays with so much else going on in my life?, d) most of the time I won't have access to my PS3 if I get that version, e) if I get the PC version, I will actually need a good machine for it to adequately run on, f) it might still turn out to be meh.

Louisiox, Eorzea's savior made the ultimate sacrifice. I can only hope that he will be remembered as a hero in the FF universe. SE developed his character slowly over time, and without fully realizing it, the community became attached to him. As players, we knew something like this could happen. We did not even see the scope of the plans SE played out though. Barely a soul across the JP and NA playerbase suspected that Dalamud, falling towards us, was actually a prison for Bahamut. Yet as soon as Bahamut appeared, so many things along the way made sense. It was all foreshadowed to us. I look forward to the many doors this opens (and many more questions) when ARR launches. The war between the Empire, the citizens and the beastmen will certainly become the forerunner of the plot in 2.0, as well as fully explaining why this 7th Umbral Era now exists. (since Bahamut obliterated the world, thus ending the 6th Astral Era)

It has been years since I have felt this much power behind a Final Fantasy title.

Every last moment of the plot of FFXIV was planned nearly 2 years ago. We've been playing it all out while they rebuilt the game. They used 1.0 to test out ideas and systems for ARR while delivering the players a story you can only fine in a Final Fantasy. They wove it together beautifully in the end. It all started with a poem...

FFXIV 2.0, I can't wait. Yoshi-P is doing the impossible somehow. Wada stated in the recent Live Producer Letter (aired 5AM Nov 11th) that Yoshi-P has full control on releasing FFXIV 2.0 when it is ready, not moving past Alpha or Beta phases until he is satisfied. This speaks volumes for how serious they are about repairing FFXIV. They also stated they are roughly 2 1/2 months off their original schedule, released in Oct 2011. They will veer further should the Alpha and Beta tests run into issues. (Thus far phase 1 alpha is complete, phase 2 concludes next week if all goes well.)

NA Alpha testers could be getting their first hands on the game as early as November 26th. Keep in mind the Alpha and Beta versions of ARR split about 3 months ago and thus are completely separate builds. Alpha is specifically for things like server stress testing and specific in-game system testing, or so we've been told.

I'll say this; If the Realm Reborn turns out to be actually pretty good, and the PS3 version ends up being a good port, I might consider getting into it. If it ever goes F2P, I will absolutely get on it regardless.

If it goes F2P, I wouldnt get it. Im not going to be price gouged to death over time for stuff. Id much rather pay a fee every month

As of now there is no intention to make it free to play. They prefer the subscription model as it allows for an even playing field.

F2P is absolute garbage. The same people that bitch about DLC are the people who are supporting F2P, which is like DLC revved up.

You cant possibly compare the two. When people bitch about DLC the way they did with XIII-2 its because the DLC was practically pointless when the game is already complete, and yet make another ending thats the true ending DLC.

Its pointles to make them in JRPGs, not MMOs.

When people want F2P MMOs because cant afford a full description. Especially on console games.

Saying F2P is like DLC revved up isn't necessarily true, depending on what money-grabbing services are set up alongside F2P. Many games fluctuate in terms of how "important" their "cash shop" items are, or maybe they just offer a premium service you can pay extra for. If the game went F2P, but many important aspects remained paid options, I wouldn't see any point in having the game F2P at all, and would prefer a monthly fee over it.

For me, it depends on how much is offered in F2P compared to what would be paid for. The way Guild Wars works goes over pretty well with me. You buy the game for $60, then you may buy a few little extra things in an in-game "premium shop", but that's it, they're not required or fully necessary. I think that's better than paying $60 for a game and then repeatedly shelling out $10+ each month. I would NOT be spending $10 each month in a F2P game. Damn.

2.0 is looking pretty good. I logged on the night that the servers were going down for the final battle. It was pretty laggy and I gave up after I DC'd the 3rd time. I'm looking forward to the relaunch and maybe I will actually get to beta test it since I am a legacy member. I really have high hopes for 2.0 though.
