[07/06] FFXIII-2 Full E3 trailer

This is not looking good for me. And the first game didn't hold my interest for more than eight hours. I kind of sort of still want to give it a shot so I can give XIII-2 a go. D:

The costume designs for this game are not good; I don't like them for some reason. I can't put my thumb on it. :hmmm:

"Serah...The truth still survives, but only you remember it."

Wut?

So basically what we already saw in the teaser trailer (although I'm happy with more Lightning face time). Seems like there's a few new gameplay and battle system elements in FFXIII-2, but it does still seem to retain what was already in FFXIII, so...

Curious about why is Odin still able to be summoned, but I guess something can explain that.

And where the heck are the other characters currently? Serah (who appears to have a larger role in the game than the last one) running around with a younger guy...I'd think Snow would be a little confused about that :wacky:

Well, still looking forward to the game. It's appears to genuinely be a whole new story. I wonder if someone could play FFXIII-2 without playing FFXIII :hmmm:

Just to embed it on here. The trailer looks good. Serah can not seem to believe Lightning is dead. Noel actually looks decent but not so exciting. Lebreau yelling at Serah and going guns crazy :lew:. Also is this on 360 as well? I saw the "A" button. Also controlling the monsters is going to be pretty nice. I saw feral behemoth by Noel and Serah. No change in the battle system much. I really liked the trailer. XIII-2 certainly is interesting.

Meh! Meh! Meh! Meh!

It looks exactly the same as XIII. The battle system looks the same, they didn't show much about the world but the little it did show still looked linear.

They new dude they added in looks cool but he isn't enough to save this game for me, also is he meant to be a new love interest? What about poor old pathetic Snow? Serah.. I hated her in XIII, why would I want to play with her in XIII-2?

Graphics are beautiful but I assume that once again, the graphics will be all this game has going for it.

I got a feeling that FFXIII-2 will end up the same as FFXIII. I didn't see any difference from the original game. The battle system looks the same to me.

I noticed that the guy who look like Fang is climbing a monster and then strike him! I hope its like shadow of collosus, that would be a brand new thing in FF! That would be cool !

Good looking trailer. More of XIII can never be a bad thing. Hopefully this has DLC this time.

The most exciting part of the trailer is the guy who plays the guy who...uh, I don't know his name, but he's the guy who jumped down off the building at the start! xD

So its open world (whatever it is called)? No more liner maps? If so, I would probably give this one a buy and play. :hmm:

"What is it that you want?"

"...better acting."

Final Fantasy XIII-2 due in December, PS3 version of FFXIII being updated

Square Enix announced today that the Japanese version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 will see release in December of this year.

The game's official site was also fully opened today. The page now has background music, a section showing off the game's characters, the E3 trailer (with English voices, but Japanese subtitles), a wallpaper download, and the text of the Final Fantasy XIII novel that was included with the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII.

The character section currently contains just Noel Kreiss, the new character who appeared in the E3 trailer.

Square Enix also announced today that it will be updating the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII with the Easy Mode that was added to last year's Xbox 360 release. This update will be available for free and will arrive alongside the July 21 release of the Ultimate Hits budget version of the PS3 title.

The update will take place automatically when you boot up the game while connected to PSN. After the update, you'll be able to select "Easy Mode" when starting a new game. You can also switch difficulties midway through the game.

I did not post the e3 trailer as It was already posted above. Also Easy mode on ps3 just like they did for the Japanese 360 version? That is lame and a waste of time.

I'm so excited! :yay:

OK, seriously now. Is that it? Looks like my earlier assessment was right: rather than address the crippling and damning flaws in the original "game", they just made a carbon copy of it with different playable characters. Not even GOOD playable characters, either - just random NPCs whose only character development was that they had memorable costumes...come to think of it, that could be said of the original game's cast as well.

Looks like this is going to be another big "fuck off!" in the player's face when it comes to actually PLAYING the game. "Cinematic action" essentially means "you sit back and watch whilst the game plays itself" and this is NOT my idea of fun. So you can fight on horseback now, and your characters move about some more! Woop dee doo! Do you have to do ANYTHING asides from mash X? Unlikely. For £39.99 and another fuck knows how many hours, press up on the control stick and the same button, whilst trying to make sense of a story that isn't even there! Value for money and fun to be had in that, certainly!

Oh, they stole quick-time events from God of War, as well! Isn't that special? That will SURELY turn things around, because stealing ideas always does.

The only positive thing I can say of this trailer is that its nice Serah has found someone who looks to be about her own age to flirt with. Maybe he's pedobear in disguise. Or the offspring of Fang and Lightning. Or both.

sorry, but just one thing. If you actually look closely, cinematic action is a form of quick time event, not a cutscene. It's the opposite of 'sit back and watch.' In the trailer, you are supposed to press a button within a time limit during cinematic action, which in turns trigger an event ('success'). I assume if you fail to press the correct button in time, your character takes damage, or you have to retry the whole battle, or worse, game over.

But I doubt this will change your opinion on the game. Just clearing up the misconception :)

Looks like XIII-2 is taking a stab at the dialogue choice wheel. And if you look at it, there are options for.. what does so and so think.. Mog and Aysse... Could these be new party members as well?

Yeah I was talking about this in the other thread, where you can choose what to say in a dialog. It's nothing new as we see this in the older ffs in some form or another. But it's great!

I think the alyssa is the blond girl in the trailer, Mog is the moogle.

also more footage: (watch it till the end. There some gameplay surprises. Also there's another video below on the puzzle gameplay of the game)

EDIT:

boss fight footage.
Cinematic actions are really cool. You 'block' damage by moving the analog stick/button at the right time.
OH and WTH!!!

THE MOOGLE IS SERAH'S WEAPON!!! HE JUST TURNED INTO A FREAKING BOW DIDN'T HE????

And Lightning's fighting... Chaos Bahamut? :hmmm: Why are the Eidolons making a come back?

It was said somewhere that Lightning became an l'cie again. So she can still use eidolons. Notice how you apparently can control eidolon like you control normal characters? And all those cinematic actions just make things better ^_^

Is time travelling involved? What does Lightning mean by Serah holds to the truth? Was everyone's memories wiped or something? 8( Credit to this trailer for creating a narrative enigma. And credit for Lebreau and her attitude. <3

I wasn't a fan of the battle system, I played for the plot and the characters, but I'm glad they're adding these reaction commands to keep players on their toes, especially this blocking and dodging. Dialogue choice seem pretty sweet too. And it looks like we have more open maps to explore now, judging by the field screens.

And gonna go for the unpopular opinion here and say I like Noel. Mainly for his swag, but also for his silly weapon, and also for this confidence he's showing. And Serah with a moogle that turns into a bow!? Soul Eater referrence! :gasp: Also, get Serah to ditch Snow for Noel, that spice it up and add to t3h dramaz. /half kidding, half not.

Why does Noel's render look more and more like a random Kingdom Hearts character has invaded Fang's wardrobe? Oh yeah, because Nomura probably used one of his discarded designs, passing it off as a new one. Ehh, I don't want to judge the guy when I've just seen him, but nothing about him comes off as interesting to me. I do however, like Lebreau's newfound attitude. She never really did that much in FFXIII or had that many lines I can think of, so go girl!

Potentially good points include the dialogue trees. I suppose a bit of that could be welcome, as if a fan requested this feature. However, I hope they don't go overboard with this. This is a JRPG, not Mass Effect. There's the monster scouting thing, though is mad button-tapping all we have to do to be successful? I may be in the minority here, but I've never really been a big fan of quick-time events. I know being kept on my toes rather than just passively playing at times would be a good thing, I'm just not too enthusiastic about them in general.

Storyline so far? I only watched the trailer once and I can't be bothered to see it again, so I'm not going back to study it. Meteorites? Bug-things that bite your face off? Serah the only person who believes Lightning is alive? I'm sure I've seen this somewhere before. It really does not sound like the most original synoptic scene-setting I've ever seen at all.

I don't like this Noel guy, :hmph: he just seems to be taking Lightning's spotlight. Not only that, but he seems like a tag-a-long, Serah did say "Noel what is it you want?" Noels reply "A future where everyone lives", but on a positive note I cant imagine him being annoying or boring.Another thing is that Serah seems to be the centerpoint of the story yet again, if you did hear Lightning in the beginning she did say "Serah the truth still survives, but only you remember it".

One thing that concerns me really deeply is when Lightning said "In a world where I no longer exist" by that I think she is in the so-called "invisible world" in the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology. Furthermore people did say that thing she was knelt down to was the Goddess Etro's throne (Who is in the invisible world I think :hmmm:). If you take into consideration what was said above Lightning *may* be indeed dead :-)cry:), because I'm sure when people die they are sent to the invisible world. The visble world I'm a 100% sure is Pulse. But I'm hoping I'm wrong in saying she may be dead.

And also where the heck is Sazh,Mr.Hero and that little poor kid (Hope).

Just to pipe in-I do not see Kingdom Hearts when I look at Noel, at all. I don't know why people are getting that vibe, 'cause I'm not :hmmm:

The designs in FFXIII are too detailed to be similar to KH (which also kind of plays around body proportions; to give it that Disney effect I always thought :hmmm: ) beyond both games having the same character designer (and maybe it's just me, but I didn't get as much of a Nomura vibe as I usually do o_O). Noel looks like a younger, male Fang to me for his outfit, honest.

Actually, if I may comment, I think Noel was made to be the Hope some people wanted. Realistic teenager angry about his mom's death apparently was turn-off for some people, so maybe Noel is so-called redemption of a younger, male character (actually, I wonder how old he is?). Cool, self-sufficient stereotype pretty boy.

Interesting to see dialog options. Potential SIMS engine then? Will the different dialog change anything in the game? :hmmm:

And I didn't know a moogle became Serah's weapon, lol.

Over-all, looking forward to the game. I always liked FFXIII. Never really understood the outspoken hate for it by the minority (a couple of aspects people bemoan I've seen in other games that were never an issue, and actually praised, so wtf hypocrisy?), but whatever. I'm certain people are still gonna play it to justify their hate spew, but that means more money for S-E in the end
