Source: Final Fantasy XIII-2 News

they seem to have put a lot of effort in that casino city, Xanadu. It looks a bit like floating balamb garden from VIII and gold saucer from VII. As I said before, it's great that they actually created a whole new amusement park instead of reusing Nautilus from the previous game. I also doubt they have recycled designs and models from Nautilus because Xanadu doesn't look much like Nautilus.

And notice how we apparently do not buy stuff from machines? Look at that woman behind the counter in the 2nd screenshot. Chocobo racing system looks cool and elaborate too.

Tonberry is a recruitable monster too!

I am soo gonna love this game.

The casino location does look rather cool, I'll give it that. Nothing really groundbreaking, but cool. But...Xanadu being its name? So are we expecting Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly in the game as well?

Poor Alyssa - subjected to the same fashion sense as Hope. I feel her pain when she's asking Hope why he's looking at her. I mean, who would want to get into that outfit when it would clearly look perhaps even more ridiculous on you than on him?

Since my browser crashes each time I try to view the thread where it shows Hopes new look, I will say that he looks mighty good in XIII-2. So glad he looks like an actual man and not some snot-nosed , stick-up-his-ass annoying piece of shit. I'm actually liking the look of the Casino city. It looks it could actually be a plus for this game as it does need a lot of those pluses for me to actually consider buying it, or at least, giving it a try.

I sure hope it doesn't turn out to be shit. :(

hop[e look awesome simple as end of story  but the screenshots look like soooo awesome XD sooo can't wait to get the game when it comes out next year :wacky:

I am not impressed. It seems too arcade like... , but considering these pics are focusing on the mini game section its understandable. I never liked the amusement park aspect in FF7 so I will not like it in FFXIII-2 either, but thats just me lol.

Inside Final Fantasy XIII-2′s Casino And Chocobo Races

By Spencer . October 27, 2011 . 11:51pm

That’s Hope, director of research at the Academy, and his assistant Alyssa. It appears Noel is showing them how he and Serah can travel through time while they’re visiting Academia.

Monsters are the third party member in Final Fantasy XIII-2 and each creature has their own special attack called a Feral Link. Looks like the Tonberry is up to its old tricks with its lantern and little knife. Chocobos were in the last build of Final Fantasy XIII-2 I got to play and they have a kicking combo. Players will also see the flightless birds in Xanadu. The casino area has slot machines that look like futuristic bikes and chocobo racing where you can win a chocodagger.

Temporal Rifts (aka Labyrinth of Time in Japan) are puzzle-like areas where you have to collect all of the crystals and then reach a goal before time runs out. Players will see these throughout the game within the main story.

Wow kinda seems like Golden Saucer :hmmm:

Is it just me or do the Chocbo's look kinda dead in this picture?

But back on topic. Honestly I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Sounds like a good thing, but if this is the farthest there going with "side-quest" This and monster Hunting, I am not going be to impresesd I think

I have been keeping up on XIII-2 news and I have gathered that there are definitely other types of sidequests. I saw this gameplay video from the demo where an NPC was desperately looking for a capsule that he lost. Then the player can choose to help him or not. So its not just monster hunting. Another NPC said that there's a mysterious cieth spotted in the dungeons and request players to investigate.

Almost every NPC sidequest seems to reward you 'fragments'. There are about 150 fragments as I observed. Ao theres likely to be more than 100 NPC sidequests. Xanadu is also likely to have more minigames other than chocobo racing and slot machines as hinted in an interview.

There are tons of optional areas and monsters in this game because you are supposed to choose your own path. Choosing different paths and doing certain things/completing sidequests can give you different endings. There are also optional challenging temporal rifts (the time puzzle thing) that are part of the sidequests. By travelling to different time periods of the same area, you get different outcomes and quests too.

I may sound like I'm trying to sell the game lol. But my intention is just to straighten the facts that I thought people should know.

I appreciate the news...

The problem for me with multiple endings is, of course, that can open the way for FFXIII-3.
That's just my opinion though.

Most games with multiple endings have a best ending, a worst ending and some in between.

So what's the the outcome if you get the best, the worst, or one of the in between ones ?

Can you prevent the infamous stabbing scene from ever happening if you do things differently ?

What's the ultimate outcome of all of this anyway ? Save humanity ?
Save Pulse ?
Bring back the maker and usher in a "golden age" ?

who knows ?

Maybe they overeacted to the criticisms and went too far in the other direction.
FFXII was unemotional and FFXIII had too much. FFXIII not enough different kinds of sidequests, FFXIII-2 maybe too many different kinds.FFXIII no interaction with npcs and maybe in XIII-2 too much..

No balance in Square's approach to its FF games.

Of course we'll see how it all plays out and if fans feel overwhelmed by all you can do/try to do in the game.

Couldnt agree more. I hope this game fails big time! :tehe:
No BALANCE!

Its exactly like ffx-2 in this way..
A ff title targeted mainly at girls, with girly chars...3 endings, maybe even with the %.....

The story better be hella good to make up with this mess of a game.. it feels like its stuffed full with mini games just to make it interesting and fill up trophy spots..

It feels like a lot of side quests/mini games/treasure hunting/monster capturing with a main story attached... it should be the other way around imo :mokken: I hope for the fans the story is still a mystery and unknown and not published yet.

I hope the story is intense, but i DOUBT IT :ffs:

this sequal just keeps getting better and better. The casino and the races look awsome especially the motorbike race. And my gosh look at hope all grown up.

I never thought the day would come when people complain about too many OPTIONAL content. :ohshit:

At this rate every other new FF game will never be good. Yes blame SE. But blame ourselves too for having way too high expectations on every aspect.

Those motorbikes are not for racing. They are slot machines shaped like bikes.
