You might have suspected as much when Square Enix gave a name to the Final Fantasy Type-0 demo that was shown at an Odaiba event a couple of weeks back. Today, we have confirmation courtesy of Famitsu: that demo, known as "Natsubi," will be released as a free download.

The downloadable version of the demo will see some adjustments for home play.

The magazine does not share timing for the demo's release, but you can get an early preview through this walkthrough video that Famitsu.com shared a couple of weeks back.

A few more details about the Final Fantasy Type-0 playable demo slipped out. According to Famitsu leaks, the demo will have at least four missions.

  • Operation Empire Escape (difficulty level: normal) – the first mission you can choose, a battle with Byakko troops.
  • Giudecca Battle (difficulty level: hard) – reach the destination and take out the Soryu army. It’s recommended to use Shiva here.
  • Operation Rush the Big Bridge (difficulty level: very hard) – reach the destination and take out Empire units. You’ll find several pieces of magic armor here. Again, summons are recommended.
  • Operation Breakthrough the Heart of the Enemy (difficulty level: impossible) – a clash with the Empire army in a forest. Players are advised to level up their characters and enhance their equipment before taking on this stage.

Famitsu says players will be able to use the following characters and commands in the demo. (T – triangle, C – circle, S – square, X – cross)

NOTE: There appears to be some inconsistency with the reporting of the demo's release.

Awesome! I hope someone uploads this demo somewhere so I can download it over here in the US. I'm really looking forward to seeing the demo! :D

just a bit of info for you guys I read on Twitter this morning that the demo will be out on the 11th of this month.... I think that next Thursday this is via andriasing :D ill get the full story up in a min... it sooo hard to write on the mobile :hmph:

UPDATE: here the full story :)

Square Enix has announced an availability date for the free Final Fantasy Type-0 demo that was first revealed in Famitsu this week. You'll get to try out the game's "Natsubi" sampler on August 11. The demo will be released via PlayStation Store and the game's official site.
Those who play the demo will unlock special summer clothing for the game's characters. This can be carried over into the final version.

This downloadable demo is basically the same as the demo that's currently on display at a Square Enix demo event in Odaiba. That version offers four missions and seven characters. Famitsu's report said that the downloadable version will have some adjustments, but Square Enix has not yet provided clarification on this area.

That's good news. I was hoping they would put it up on the official site. I don't have a Japanese PSN account. ;(

Anyways, i'm looking forward to playing it! :)

Final Fantasy Type-0 demo brings alt costumes August 11

The first downloadable Final Fantasy demo arrives next week.

According to Final Fantasy Network‘s translation of a report on 4 Gamer, the demo will arrive on the Japanese PlayStation Network on August 11.
Downloading the demo allows players to unlock alternate costumes – summer uniforms – for use in the full game.
No word on when we’ll see the demo in English – or the game itself, for that matter. Time to fire up your alt PSN accounts, then.
Final Fantasy Type-0 arrives on Japanese PSPs on October 13. Previously known as Final Fantasy Agito XIII, it forms part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis trilogy.

So tempted to make a Japanese PSN account just for the demo. I have not touched my PSP in absolutely ages however. I may as well try and make a Japanese PSN account as I really am loving this game. No English release yet kinda sucks. It probably will not even get an English demo and we will have to wait a long while for the Eng version of the game. As for the Alternate costumes, I think it is cool that they will be included in the full game by downloading the demo. Rem's hair looks really weird in that picture though. :hmmm:

If you have a Japanese PSN account can you play the demo on an US PSP without having to modify it in anyway? I don't really feel like jailbreaking my PSP.

Yes you can you just need a Japanese psn account or you could just download it from the offical website of the game :D it will work as it region free XD I been importing games for years :D

:gasp: Seriously? Sweet! I'll definitely be downloading this and trying it out, then :D It's probably gonna be a pretty big demo by the looks of it.

Just downloaded the demo :yay: I'll update with my thoughts when I finish it. Or while I'm playing. Either one.

Okay. Just finished the first mission. I like the battle system, it's a lot more fun that Crisis Core's. Although I'm extremely confused as to why the other two members of your party aren't with you and instead you have these...ghost characters? I dunno. Maybe it was just that mission or I haven't read into the game enough. I had two of my characters die 'cause I got caught off guard and wasn't sure who had cure and who didn't when I switched to them :lew: Started with Machina, ended with Sice. Had to fight a damn Behemoth at the end of the first mission :gasp:

Not being able to read Japanese does make things a bit harder because I have no clue what's going on or what I'm actually doing. Also I think there was a tutorial, but I failed it when I accidentally summoned Shiva. And apparently when you summon, it takes all your health away :gasp2:

The load times are quite fast, although this is just a demo. Forgetting that Circle and X are swapped in Japan also caused a few problems xP Kept cancelling things on accident when I wanted to accept.

Overall I find it quite fun and hope they release it in America within the next year. And an English demo would be nice.

Also, this has to be the first FF game (that I've played) that has voice acted Moogles :gasp: It's kinda cool. And I hope they have John DiMaggio play Gilgamesh if/when they do an English version of this game.

Not for a while I pressume, In Japan Type-0 is released in 2 months!

I played the demo today and from my 1st playthrough I am not impressed. This is not Final Fantasy, this is Persona, It's set in a school, your play as stereo typical anime characters and to summon a monster you have to kill off a character (As in Persona you have to replicate shooting yourself in the head...) Once I summoned the creature, He was so big he took up the whole screen! Seriously all I could see were to big legs stomping about.

I will have another go soon, but for now I am not convinced.

1. Not just Persona is set in a school

2. Only Persona 3 has Evokers that act like you're shooting yourself in the head

The summons were bad in the sense of sacrificing a player and not being able to buy Phoenix Downs (or start with them) to revive anybody when they get 1 hit by a missile in the 3rd mission. But I was able to use Golem and actually deal some decent amount of damage to those things that shot missiles at me.

I finished the 3rd mission with only King and Rem left. It sucked. You die too fast.

Again. It's not like Persona at all :\ It's not a life simulator like the previous Persona games are. Just because it takes place at a school doesn't mean it's like Persona.

I really dont think anyone here has played Persona. Plus they are talking about Persona like its a bad thing. Maybe play some other RPG's besides Final Fantasy. It isnt the only good RPG

Final Fantasy Type-0 Camera And Phantoma To Be Tweaked For Full Game

By Ishaan . August 14, 2011 . 12:00pm

Final Fantasy-XIII.net forum member, Rabla, has gone digging through the Final Fantasy Type-0 demo files and discovered a few things that haven’t been mentioned before. First amongst these is the name of the final member of Class 0, the shotgun-wielding girl. She’s called “Cater”.

Another discovery, although this is hardly a surprise, is that Bahamut will be one of the game’s summons.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, director, Hajime Tabata, has been watching feedback on the Type-0 demo, including complaints about the game’s camera, and says that both the camera and Phantoma will be spruced up in the full game.

A big thanks to Rabla for sending word of his discoveries, and to Dan for the Tabata tip!
