Squall is the best FF male character

I agree, but whats the point in this thread?

Reason why I think hes the best is cause hes a hottie lolz. But seriously, hes my fav cause I was a teen when I played the game and he was the moody idol I kinda adored. Most would say Cloud or Zidane is amazing, but Squall is my ulitmate fav.

Again, point in thread lolz?
 
I like Squall, but I don't hold him as my favourite. There's a heck of a lot of male characters out there: lead characters, party characters, non playable characters, and among those are obscure characters.

I liked Squall as a character, but I also find something to like in most of the characters in any of the games, as they all have their own roles to play.

As a lead though Squall was quite an interesting character. He wasn't a simple "let's go save the world because I'm an awesome hero" type, but then again not many FF leads were. Still it was interesting seeing how awkward and cold he appeared on the outside.
 
He's a good lead male FF character but, he isn't my favorite. Someone's who is just all around. Squall isn't very flexible IMO. He was just stiff throughout the game (toward the end he opens up a bit) But I wouldn't say hes my fave. Zidane would probably be my favorite FF male lead.

As the first male lead character l controlled, Sqaull has unenviable position of being the guy who l compare all the rest against....anyway He stands out to me as a stoic kinda of guy and l associate him mostly with defense and therefore place him as my Tank type of character on FFVIII.

His personalilty and early reluctance to be sociable are what set him up for the eventual way he opens up to Rinoa, but its not his best aspect his choice of weapon says more to me about him than anything else.

I also think his introverted nature was slightly misplaced given he preceded Cloud who was give the same outlook......Overall not the greatest FF Lead character ever but certainly he ranks amongst the top 5.

allround male char= NO

There are many others I prefer more then Squally.
 
Squall rates as the worst lead character in the entire Final Fantasy franchise that I've ever had to put up with. Even as a teenager (which I was when the game was originally released), I found him to be an annoying, self absorbed emo.

His characterisation was ultimately ridiculous, and the way in which the other characters interacted with him was utterly implausible and made no rational sense. It doesn't help that the game has one of the worst storyline in the entire franchise.

Even Tidus was easier to put up with than him, and that's saying something. At least with Tidus, the other characters reacted to him in a way that made sense. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, literally wanted to lick Squall's boot even though he was a completely obnoxious asshole.

This isn't due to me being an Irvine fanatic :-)britt: or is it?) but I didn't really like him that much. He was too emo for me. He was in a constant battle with himself and that didn't go well with me. Irvine > Squall, in my opinion.
 
I personally think that Cecil and Zidane are the best male leads. They were both selfless and grew over the course of the game. And they would be quite approachable unlike other FF leads. If I had to count on and FF lead to rescue me or save the world, I would want it to be one of these two.

And Cecil, lets just say l enjoyed kicking the crap out of him a bit to much on Dissidia.

I dont really want to picture myself being rescued by Sqaull but if the guy needed help fighting some carzy assed which lm right there! and I suppose Rydia would be there too?

Well, I do think Squall was a cool character, a bit anti-social (sadly, I can kinda relate, for when it comes to the real life me...), but I like Cloud better, and the silent but wise ones like Vincent and Auron I think are really good too, they exude coolness, with the relatively-calm-under-the-circumstances way they have about them. :monster:

Not slighting Squall though, he's good too, to be sure. ;)

I disagree about Cloud :P I think he is a emo b*tch who complains etc etc,, all the time :P , he got owned by Sephiroth several times, not even by Sephiroth's physical body hehe, he annoyed the sh*t out of me. xD and he looks like a blonde female, and its a wonder he could actually wield his massive sword with the tiny muscles he has. Which he got from Zack!!

Zack is 10 times better then worthless Cloud. Cloud couldnt save Zack and besides he thought he was Zack ,,....OMG talking about failure CLoud..... rant....

So, stumbling upon this gem of a thread, I can't help but notice that not a single person dislikes Squall at all. This is a complete shocker to me, since I've honestly only ever met one person who liked him, and she's a complete teeny bopper over him. Anyways, here's why I think Squall is the worst character in any category in the entire series. (Rinoa's a pretty bad second, but that's another rant).

1). Squall has no emotions. It's impossible to relate to a character who has no emotions. True, this can be said about several other characters (i.e. Auron, Vincent, Shadow, etc.) but those aren't main characters. They are also very calm and resolved, whereas Squall does not exemplify that at all. When he does have the appearance of emotions, it's to be whiny or a total jerk. The only reason for his angst is that he's an orphan and that he's alone. But if he would take the veil off from his eyes he'd realize he wasn't alone. Worse yet, that much is 110% obvious to anyone looking at the situation so he doesn't even have the typical emo kid excuse.

2). Harping on Seifer for a second. This guy is a just a wannabe villain. He doesn't even mean all that much in context of the story. Now, Squall is constantly under his shadow for much of the game. Being the lesser version of a pathetic wannabe doesn't say much for a main character.

3). The girl totally wants him, yet he doesn't go for it. I think this one speaks for itself so I'm not going to go into detail.

4). He is the same from the start of the game until the end. There is no character development for him. This is a major problem with the game in general, which is probably why the characters are so unrelatable.

So those are my main dislikes with Squall. The other characters are bad too but by no means as bad as he is. I'm curious to see what kind of response this gets.

I figured it would be fair to put up my favorite male lead though, for basis of comparison in this argument.

I'm going to have to point to FF6 for this. Ok so yeah, technically, there is no main character for this game, but I think Locke is as close as it gets (for main male).

Locke is driven by love, doesn't let anything get to him, and if there isn't a way around a problem he finds a way. The same can be said about when he is in despair - he finds a reason to move on. Even when the love of his life is completely lost, he moves on and is able to find love again (Celes)

Also, yes I realize now that there was one post like mine before this, I just missed it on my first pass.

I liked Squall. I like all the lead characters, I'm sure many of you know that I'd give each of the Final Fantasy characters a hug. Squall was a bit irritating when he just ignored people trying to show their feelings to him.

And his love for Rinoa wasnt an emotion? He had moody, anger, sadness, passion and he had love. How can you say he had no emotions when there are several there? I related to him when he was moody, it was great to have a teen male lead. He had emotions when he was passionate about saving Rinoa and willing to die for someone he loved.
 
Squall is a good character(thinks to himself too much though) but, in my opinion, he is NOT the best character in the FF series. He was really cliche, with the "I don't want friends blah blah blah." It was just overdone and tried way too hard.

There's a lot of other better lead males then Squall. And I gotta say, Squall is not in the top three.
 
There were a few times after he got promoted as leader of SeeD that l felt he should have expressed his though to his underlings.But other than that his demeanor towards other people was as it should have been given the "trauma" of his childhood.

Have l said this before here? Apart from FVIII Sqaull excels in Dissidia as well.

As i said earlier Sqaull is not the best but in the top 5 his deficient emotional skills and introverted outlook on life cause him to fall short off the No.1 Rank, held by Sephiroth IMO, but in afight there,s no one you'd rather have at your back!

Its over Zell loses to sqaull in the most massive way possible< he is bigger stronger faster and alt smarter than Zell, who for intents and purposes is a Chicken Wuss crtbaby who pees himself and like s to swat flies eat that Zell fanclub girl!!
