Level Grinding

There is definitely advantages to level grinding. If you do it early in the game you can begin working on a perfect game. Your gil will obviously be ridiculously high and not to mention your level will be much higher then your enemies which makes the game a lot easier. In most games i like to do this and then get through the storyline, but i do find that its just not as fun to do because you spend all the time doing the power leveling and then its like.. what happened in the story again?
Also, the level your at right now you can easily beat the game with. My most recent beat on FFVII was finishing with most of my characters at level 60. None higher. I've never power leveled that high before... usually just enough to make the game a bit easier to play through.

I'm always really impatient, and can never really just sit around and fight monster randomly to level up... xD

I'm gonna try this time around though. Already been working on it, seeing I'm replaying it again. :8F: Now all I gotta do is keep at it.

It IS usefull. xD

I managed to level grind because I got stuck in Wutai. I have FFVII on the PSP and I was playing it on the road, and I had no internet access. Took me forever to finally hunt down Yuffie all of those times. When I gave up I would train on the cliffs of Wutai, even if it was without materia. Ended up being so overleveled that nothing was a challenge, not even the Demon Wall, until the final dungeon.

I never used to fight random battles when I played FFs as a kid--I ran away as much as I could because I wanted to get on with the story, but then I'd get stuck on a certain boss and have to level grind for hours to the point where it became really tedious. I don't know if maybe they were designed this way on purpose but I've found since then that in most games, if you fight all the random battles you encounter naturally, without going to look for them, you can usually get through the bosses/tougher areas pretty well (it's worked for me at least). The only real exception I can think of is FFXII--I'm at level 83 and still can't get through the Ridorana basement--I have to step off the elevator, fight about 50 Abadons with Protect-Shell-Bubble, then run back up the elevator to heal, rinse/repeat :banghead: Or, if I survive the Abadons, then I go in the little pitch-black rooms where you're supposed to use the Black Orbs that I sold because I thought they were useless :ffs: and get lost in the dark until I get my butt kicked. Very frustrating. So yeah, that's something that needs level grinding.

I used to level grind a lot in Midgar. During the mission to blow up the Sector 5 reactor, if you jump off the train late and then run back to the end of the tunnel, you can fight Shinra soldiers. I'd stand there and fight them over and over again until I'd gained quite a few levels. :8F:

Once you get to the world map, Level Grinding isn't really necessary because there's a random battle every few steps. >_>

In my 2 times of beating FFVII, I didn't really grind for levels until the very end of the game. I would generally do the grinding at the Northern Crater, like 2 screens away from the point of no return.

I'm always obsessive about fully leveling up with all characters, so everyone would be up to level 100, even if I didn't like/never used them. I would even go as far as trying to get Vincent's Death Penalty to do max damage (though I don't think I ever got to this point, even I got impatient).

I do. All the freaking time. I'm replaying VII right now and every one in my party is level 45-50. I'm just begining disk 2 right now too. I really OCD about that in rpg's I play.

Level grinding at the end of the game can get so tedious. :gonk:

Once you get to level 60 or so, leveling just takes forever. I think I've only leveled all my characters to 99 once (without using a cheat device, that is). In fact, I rarely max out my characters in RPGs because it takes too long. -__-

*SPOILERS IN POST*

I like to do this on occasion, mostly
before Aerith leaves the party. I like being able to say that I have gotten her level 4 limit break.:ryan:
And even after that I would usually grind pretty hard, leveling up my magics and getting my main three at a decent level. I like to have at least lvl 3 spells by the time I get to Rocket Town. :ryan:

One thing I did in my last playthrough,I thought to myself after Sephiroth kicked my ass and I decided to restart the game from the beginning, get everyone at max level, all limit breaks, ultimate weapons, almost every materia and so on.
I was pretty weak before, didn't even get Omnislash.

So,at the end, everyone was at level 99,except Red XIII and Cait Sith, and Barret was 96 I think. All limit breaks (again, except those two I mentioned),all ultimate weapons, mastered Knights of the Round,W-Summon and Double-cut for my two main parties. So everyone used 4x cut. What a dream come true.I didn't even give Sephiroth the time to use Supernova.
But yeah,I spent a lot of time just level grinding while listening to music.

Yeah I have a perfect game save. Althoguh only Cloud has maximum natural health, I wasn't going to go any further than that.

Other than that there is a maxed enemy skill for each of my team as well as 3 copies of each Master Materia. This was fairly easy by fighting magic pots and the small red orbs in the Northern Crater.

Also the Sunken Gelnika was fantastic for levelling all my characters to 99 as well as maxing all their stats by morphing the enemies in there. It works well, I also have all Ultimate Weapons and Final Limits too. To put it simply Sephiroth was too easy at the end and I *almost* regretted having power levelled so much as I kind of hoped that the last boss would be a little more difficult, with this set up, even the weapons were fairly easy...

I grind quite a bit in certain RPG's, this being one of them.

The moment I saw that you needed 3000 Gil for the Gold Saucer, I was like "Whatever, one-time pass."
Then I saw the 30000 Gil perma-pass and went "Oh COME ON! That's such a tease!"
Then I grinded...ground...whatever you'd say there for quite a while, gaining many levels for Cloud/Tifa/Reped-er, Red XIII in the process.

Now I have a Cloud/Tifa/Yuffie party in their mid-30's (just after Cosmo Canyon) and I plan to keep grinding for a while. XD

Yeah, I usually leveld up 10-20 for every sector or town. I was at 99 by the time I got to Cosmo Canyon. It might take away some memories of where your going in games today, but FFVIIs a fairly easy to remember story. Though yeah, you might stop enjoying it some with constant lving but id just change the channel and move the dpad then hold down cirlce when the playstation made the loading sound, then tap circle when it loaded again and repeat. An easy way to lv up if your not concerned with your party being killed. Im still working on getting to lv 100 at the first save point, I got bored with the project, but reached about lv 30. You get all the potions you need from killing soldiers its just really low exp value that makes it difficult.

i do some grinding at the place a little bit away from wall market with tifa barret and cloud after the reno boss fight the exp is pretty good plus its farely easy to get cross-slash for cloud do to the monsters getting his limit up so fast.and the gil is pretty good at that point as well.

The last time I played FF7, I level grinded so much I had Climhazard on Cloud before going to Tifa's bar for the first time.

Usually I grind to about level 20 or so when in Shinra HQ. However, rather than focusing on levels I aim to achieve Limit Level 3 (Meteor Rain and Finishing Touch) on Cloud.
I get these Saw-like enemies to put me into fury then I just make sure Cloud casts as many limit breaks and kills each enemy. I gained the Finishing Touch Limit Break at around Level 18 by doing this.
I also steal the Hardedge sword from the Shinra soldiers - much better than the Butterfly sword buyable from Kalm.

When I get to the world map I normally go and learn as many enemy skills as possible including Beta from the Midgar Zolem (youtube has tutorials). I also steal the atomic scissors from the machine gun type enemies found near Midgar on the world map. I'll also go to the Mithrill caves (cave after Zolem's marsh) and get the Long-Ranged materia (you can only go left in the cave if you haven't done the long flash back in Kalm).

I'll then get Yuffie in the Junon area and gain everyone elses Limit Level 3 break. Once I reach Neibelheim I do the same for Vincent. I then go back to Junon with the buggy and train using the alarm method near the underground dock.

Finally when getting the Tiny Bronco I train on a small piece of land near Mideel which possesses enemys that are usually only found on Disc 2. When I play through next I aim to get to level 99 by doing this.

On my second playthrough, in attempts to get everything the game had to offer, I grinded all the way to 99 after getting the Tiny Bronco. Yeah...

Now, I only grind with singular characters to get the limit breaks I want real fast. Other than that I just fly though the story.

The last time I played FF7, I level grinded so much I had Climhazard on Cloud before going to Tifa's bar for the first time.

Same here. Although I had Climhazard while he was still named "Ex-Soldier".

I thought I was pretty bad for grinding, but some of the people in this topic really put me to shame. My main reason for grinding is usually to master materia. I endeavor to master Heal very early on, as it can be sold for a great price, and I like to have All materia leveled up early, as it can help with battles.

I have a number of places that I tend to stop and train on my way through the game:

-On the way to blow up the second reactor, when you've set off the alarm, and you can fight waves and waves of soldiers.
-When you first hit the World Map. Fight the enemies until you recieve the Matra Magic enemy skill.
-Junon area. The enemies that appear in groups of five give great AP/cash, the latter useful for Fort Condor battles.
-Mideel area. Awesome AP.
-Sunken Gelnika. Obvious reasons.

i am currently playing FF7 at the moment because FF13 sucks so im playing a real FF game, and i have just got to Cosmo Canyon and my party consists of LV 40 Cloud LV 40 Barrett and LV 39 Tifa. They all have their LV 3-2 limits and to be honest its just fun to gring do hard that the bosses die in a couple of hits.

I powerlevel hard on games. I love my characters to be strong and high levels even though it isnt necessary. I had all my characters between levels 90-95 before I left disk 1( so I could leave some leveling left to do ;). I just stayed at the Corral Valley before the City of the Ancients. Whats funny is, I never got bored while doing this.

I don't think that I ever did until right now! I have just started playin' VII again and have started grinding!!

I am only at Shinra building being that I am usually 12 here I am 25 :) Not one monster/boss has given me the slightest bit of trouble!!
