A tribute to Cloud? Why?

Last time I checked, he hasn't died in any game- either that or I missed something rather big! :gasp:

Wouldn't this be more apt if SE decided to close the Compilation of FFVII one day or something? If SE did that, having a Cloud tribute would make more sense.

So, what has Cloud done to get a tribute? It seems out of the blue.

Finally!! Its awesome that they gave him a tribute. He was an awesome protagonist. Nice to see so many clips from the games he has been in. If only I could read Japanese, I could understand what they said about him :gonk:

Love the pics again. Thanks Asabella :awesome: This is awesome.

Even though I'm not a such a huge fan of Cloud anymore (these pictures show why... what a damn sulk :ffs:), I still think this is pretty cool. He is easily the most iconic FF character anyway and it's cool how they went through all the different games he's been in.

I completely forgot he was in Ehrgeiz. I played that once and it was a rubbish game but it was cool to use Cloud in a more traditional fighting type game.
And I never completed FFTactics and I do remember him being there as well.

If there was an english version, I'd definitely have a read.

Meh, we don't think he deserves it at all. We think more characters from previous games should have been put ahead of Cloud getting any sort of tribute. He doesn't deserve it at all. Just sounds like fan-service to us.

"More characters" weren't associated with the type of FF sign on that Cloud was. He has, in fact, been iconic for Final Fantasy, and his appearance in so many (non VII) things support that, or at least provides a healthy sum of material to use.

I would love to see Firion up there, but what exactly could they put together for him? What exactly would be significant? Rather than ask what Cloud's done to "deserve it", what would the other characters have done to "deserve it"? Having been created first?

Anyway, all of the different art styles and image sizes from different time periods and games reminds me of something from the Mario or Megaman series.

Yay! Go Cloud! I'm a hige Cloud fangirl and after seeing him so ignored this is really uplifting. Thanks for sharing this.

Does anyone have an translations?

Not yet, but I'm sure another Cloud fan will post them up soon. ^^

I'll be sure to update.

Meh. Im not a Cloud fan and I really dont see the point. Nuts going to do a Tifa issue?? I wouldnt part with cash for this, it seems like a waste of ink, staples and paper.

Agreed. It's completely pointless as well, I don't think he's ever done anything anyway. He just happens to be a hyped character in a milked compilation. He's got nothing on the likes of Mario, Sonic, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot etc :mokken:

Personally, we don't think Cloud, as a character, deserves it. Sure, he's been in a assload of games. However, his character in our opinion is flawed on so many levels that he just doesn't deserve it.

He's a whiny little emo kid with too many mental problems to count. Sure, it's our opinion, but at the end of the day, we don't see how being a whiny little emo kid warrants a tribute. :mokken:

Quality of quantity we always say. :D

First off, He is not emo :brooding: Nor does he whine. If at all, he needs to vent out his emotions more. He may always appear sad, that doesn't mean that he is emo.

Second of all, famitsu probably wouldn't have even made a tribute about Cloud if he wasn't such a big hit all over. He is very famous and games that he appears in sell, which helps Square Enix garner sales. He is one of the bigger protagonists they have had and thus famitsu probably thought that he deserved some commendation in the least. This is coming too late, to be honest, which is why it is being negatively recieved probably. If it had came when Cloud was really big, then maybe things would be different. Maybe Cloud is bigger in Japan then we realize. It's their magazine and they can put whomever they want in it.

We beg to differ. He's emo. Maybe not the biggest emo in the world, but it doesn't change the fact that he's emo. Last name is proof enough: Strife. Seriously... It's STRIFE.

Going on and on and on about some chick who died while someone who really does love him, who has their own money, and who is an independent woman, is being completely ignored because Cloud can't quit moping around and being all dark and depressed.

We would be all for it if Cloud could just learn to be happy. But noooooo... Seriously Cloud, lighten up, Areith is dead. Meanwhile you have friends that love you and you're too damned busy being emo to realize that you're being an idiot. :mokken:

Final thoughts: Cloud is an emo, and doesn't deserve this tribute, because in the end, Cloud hasn't learned shit. -__-

Someone did not watch Advent Children all the way through

He eventually learns that he was being an idiot after a certain point in the movie and begins to move on. That wolf that was following him around? Yeah, that was the physical embodiment of his regret of losing Zack and Aerith. When he decides to move on after some encouraging from them, it vanished. He did learn something, though FFVII and Advent Children. He learned to appreciate what he has and to move on with his life. He maybe was acting like you said, but changed as the movie progressed. Think he could have beaten Sephiroth again and defeated the remnants had he kept that attitude, no he couldn't. He would have to had cheered up and accepted what happened and move on.

Advent Children was terrible.

Also, the whole wolf thing was SE trying way to hard to turn a simple concept into a "deep and intellectual" thing. Even at the end of the movie, as he watched Areith and Zack walk away, you can tell he hadn't learned anything. We can easily see him sitting on a bar stool whining about it to Tifa later.

And yes, we do think he could have beaten him. Sephiroth will always come back because he is made up of all of Cloud's "darkness". (*Sigh*)

So in retrospect: FFVII - Learned nothing, FFVIIAC - Learned something, then quickly forgot it again, then went back to being an emo kid.

(In the end, we're interpreting everything in two completely different ways.)

End the end, we still don't think Cloud has learned anything from the entire journey. :mokken:

The "quantity" speaks for his iconic stature in the series. They wouldn't have given him a notable role in the likes of Kingdom Hearts, a cameo in tactics, or an appearance in whatever else he weren't so recognizable or popular (initially).

Even those who know lick about FF can probably recognize that, "Spikey-headed, (now) emo guy with the big sword".

VII did a lot for the series in terms of introducing people to the series and signing on tons of fans.

Name one character in a game prior to it that they could successfully do something like this with. I think it's odd and out of place too, but not because of any potential better candidates.

If they were to do this again, I'd see probably Squall or Tidus getting one next. But they need more material to keep us from wondering what separates their "tribute" from a regular bio given in a magazine.

Cecil, Cecil may have not been in more games, but he is a much better, and all around cooler character in our opinion. He also has a much better story behind him. Also, we would appreciate if you would stop attacking our opinion.

All of your "logic" is doing nothing more than making me think that he doesn't deserve the tribute even more than we did previously.

VII did a lot for the series in terms of introducing people to the series and signing on tons of fans.

Some of those fans haven't even touched another FF game, and a lot of those fans refuse to believe that there is a better FF. In our honest opinion, FF could do without them. :mokken:

In our opinion, the tribute is still unwarranted. They could have given another character from any series, from any brand, that spot and it would make more sense. Megaman, Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Chrono, ect... The list could go on for days.

Also, they're probably going to end up doing the same thing for Tidus, and for Lightning as well.

The only reason why FFVII even sold big in the first place is because it was the first game on a next-gen console (for its time) and featured shiny graphics. Same with FFX, and soon to be FFXIII.

FFVII and FFX, in our opinion, are massively over-rated due to the simple fact that they were "fresh, new, and never before seen".

Cloud, despite the fact that he is constantly shoved in our faces, character wise doesn't deserve that spot. The lack of character development makes us think that is truly is only fanservice that got him that spot.

If Cloud's character evolved, at all, we probably wouldn't be complaining. :mokken:

Oh lord...more Cloud boo loving...I swear this is a bit too much. we all know how ironic Cloud has become over the many years since FF VII...no need for a tribute, now thanks to this I'm especially reminded how god awful God Bless The Ring game was
