I noticed this freaky little thing under Vaan's vest about three seconds after seeing him. It looked like really messed up abs.

Well, I know people complain about Vaan looking weird around the chest area, but I don't think those are meant to be abs. I think (looking at his render he looks fine, but eh <_<) they're from him being an orphan and therefore fairly malnourished. But at the same time he is kind of fit, but they look way more like ribs to me <_<
Doesn't make them any less creepy though. They're really not nice to look at during cutscenes.

Besides, SE KNOWS how to make abs, they did it for Tidus okay, it just looked strange because where I'm assuming the ABS started his shirt thing came up. ;o

(I need to stop looking at peoples chests :wacky:)
 
Honestly, I didn't notice his chest and abs. I did how ever thought his clothes made him look a bit...metrosexual? :gasp:

Now you made me google pics of Vaan to see his chest... <_<
 
Well SE was trying a graphics jump with that game, so them screwing up how his chest looks is quite expected, I mean if they just kept with FFX graphics in gameplay I wouldn't think we would see his chest rather weird, I tbh thought his nose was weird too.

That's why I don't think being an orphan had anything to do with his chest looks like that, it's just they failed in making it better, if it were because he was an orphan or something then you would expect too see other areas such as shoulders and such like that.

SE should have made them wear decent clothes ._. instead of a stupid opened vest with nothing under it.

I think that had a lot to do with the climate of Dalmasca/Rabanastre. Basically in the middle of a friggin desert. So he wasn't going to run around in a whole lot of clothes to begin with. Same reason for Ashe's short skirt.

I would add Fran into that mix, but, well.... she's just Fran.
 
I was really shocked to see how Vaan's chest looked during regular gameplay. No matter what SE was thinking they should have noticed how odd it looked during their testing phases. I'm not sure what to think it is supposed to be though. During cutscenes, it looks like a fine set of abs.
 
His chest looked kinda weird to me when i saw it. I looked like layers or messed up packs. Maybe Square was just trying to make the abs look as real as possible and tried to hard :wacky:
 
I found his chest to be very disturbing and he had an overall plasticky appearance. It made it hard to watch him in the cut scenes.

I actually thought everyone looked weird during the cut scenes in this game. They all looked kind of rubbery and odd. But Vaan's abs bothered me the most. They really should have done something about them. >_>
 
ya know when u put it that way im totally enlightened, it makes complete sense! thnx, nad i never did notice his chest bein wierd...
 
I think they're abs, they look a bit drawn on to me though. He looks much better in Final Fantasy Tactics A2 though, he wears a white shirt underneath the vest... thing.
I pretty much liked the characters designs apart from Vaan.
 
It's like he wanted to look like he had fine abs to impress people so he drew them himself. -_- They really look weird in his CG but they're just normal in the cutscenes. Why can't it just stay normal? XD

I didn't like his nose either. >.>
 
Is there suppposed to be a gap in between the shorts and the vest, is that what you're talking about? I thought it was just messed up/ decorations. I didn't really think that is part of the plan to do that.

I agree about his clothes, rofl.

On topic, though, I never really considered them to be that o.o I thought they were just REALLY horrible looking abs.....hm...things to think about now...
 
Uh, well.......I never noticed. I had to look at a gameplay vid on youtube just to make sure. Gotta admit, Vaan's abs do look a tad bit creepy during gameplay, but they look normal during the movie cut-scenes. Guess it was just a case Square Enix trying too hard to enhance the graphics.
 
yup. Vaan's abs are creepy during gameplay. they look ok during the movie cut-scenes. i think they should be more subtle. i mean he looks kinda young to have abs like that.
 
To be honest, I never really got the whole big deal about his chest. I mean it's just a game, and maybe that's just my typical realist talking, but it IS just a game. It's not a real person. :gasp:

It never bugged me, if anything it's not his abs, but his face that looks kinda off, but nothing kept my attention from playing the game, specially not Vaan. =/

I really don't get the whole fuzz about it. Sooo... =/
 
dude. when i first saw them i couldnt figure out what they were, i thought he was wearing some sort of ugly undershirt or sompthing and then i realized what they were and i was like ew. i mean what ever happened to the main characters of square wearing shirts??? whats wrong with shirts? (Tidus )*cough cough*

I thought it was a shirt too. It took me a long time to come to terms that they were indeed his abs.XD

That's a really good thesis! Or is it fact?

And also, FFXII was by a different art director altogether. Tetsuya Nomura did FFX and all of the other ones (not shure about XI, XIII, or XIV).

This art director did the works for Tactics. ^^

An entire thread dedicated to bitching about how Vaan's chest looks. I truly have found my home in this forum! :D And yes they looked very sloppy and fake. >< But, I spent as little time as possible with Vaan in the actual fighting party so it didn't bother me as much ^o^
 
I noticed it when I first saw him too, it's messed up. Everytime I saw him I'd always notice it and think, "wtf?". I used Vaan alot so eventually I just got used to it.
