I just came across this article and it just really...saddened me in a way. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080112...rried_twins;_ylt=Ako2YvicgRRjI0TJDMYuF6Ss0NUE

They really should include more information in the birth certificate regarding adoptive children, especially those separated from birth...

I know that most people who adopts kids don't even bother with the children's real parents and their identities, and that's pretty understandable, considering that they would never be a part of their lives anyway. But they really should take the time to know basic informations about the children's parents, and pass the information to their adoptive children later down the road.

Anyway, thoughts?

I was going to make a thread on this myself, after seeing it on the front cover of the newspaper.

It's really really tragic, because they must have been in love with each other and if they were married they would have obviously had sex with each other, and now they have to live with that fact for the rest of their lives, I just feel so sorry for them.

Apparently, scientists say they would have felt attracted to each other straight away because they would have noticed the similarities they share.

I think that this just shows that if you're adopting, twins must be adopted together.

Ahh, what a way to find out you are brother and sister. It is pretty sad.

Wow what are the odds that two twins would wind up together after a life-long separation?

That's so sad. No matter what, I'm sure they both feel a little bit traumatized about the situation. I know if that was me, I would be immensely depressed; not to find out that I loved my brother, but to realize that I slept with my brother...quite a shock...

And I agree that twins should be adopted together. It seems more logical.

It is sad and liek you said, the odds of that happening are crazy. The fact that theyve fallen in love and want to be together forever is so upsetting and they have to part.

But really, telling them after they get married?! Harsh as hell.

Oh dear, now that would be creepy.

Though why wasn't any blood work done on them before they were married? In the US I'm pretty sure you are required to get a blood test before you get married.

Huh? I don't know about that...at least I didn't get any blood test done before I got married...

But yeah, I did wonder why people won't just adopt both twins instead of just taking one and leaving the other behind. I mean, it's pretty self-explanatory that there could be a possibility of incest later down the road, no matter how small the chance is. Still, what are the odds, right?

And besides, they're twins...both sharing the same blood. They should be together growing up like brother and sisters would do! To separate them from birth is just...really, really sad.

My friend was telling me about this on Saturday and I was like wtf are the odds on that?! I have to admit I DID find it a bit amusing

Although Id be pretty darn traumatised if I found out Id slept with my own brother & married him.

I'd have to live in the shower and scrub myself raw....

My friend told me about this, and I couldn't help but feel sympathy for the two. But their connection was probably a sisterly/brotherly one. They maybe thought that the connection, which is so unique, was miraculous. But it's so unlikely that love between two people is like that. It's a fairy tale love really... But they didn't know what else it could be, so they wanted to hold on to something special. It still is special and, even though they're brother and sister, they should make sure to keep in close contact! It might be painful, but they should realise that their connection was there because they were twins.

I don't see why incest has to be seen as sinful in those cases! They didn't know what was happening before falling in love. Sure, it might seem wrong to some, but they didn't knowingly enter into such a relationship with family. Eh, it'd be something hard to tell kids though...

it sucks for them, they meet the one person who they truely love and its their sister/brother. its heartbreaking for them really.

I don't see why incest has to be seen as sinful in those cases!
its taboo, but i doubt people are seeing them as sinful.
but incest is evolutionarly wrong.

Hmm... maybe its only in certain states then...

The problem with incest is that if you have children is can cause problems. There is a higher chance of your child either being deformed or inheriting an unpleasant gene. Like if your family carried the HD gene and there is a 50% chance of inheriting it from one parent, well if your parents are siblings and they both carry the gene then there is pretty much a 100% chance that you will have HD.

(Or something like that, I'm no geneticist)

...yet if Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, the Bible left out thousands of years of incest.

But yes, I agree that when adopting children, one should adopt the twins/triplets/etc. together instead of separating them. As it is, the adopted child would realize that they are different from their parents or from whatever siblings they wander around with. If the twins were adopted together, at least it would've given them someone to remain close with growing up.

hmm the bibles not exactly 100% accurate, yet you are right as all people of the same race are related, just not very much. :wacky:

thats why its illegal. ;)
take the russian royal family, some of the men had hemophilia becuase of incest.

one should adopt the twins/triplets/etc. together instead of separating them
i agree with that too as a rule, yet some families may not be able to support twins/triplets ect, or one of the siblings may have a negative effect on the other/s, so they may have to be sepparated, but i think that they should be told who their adopted sibling is in future to stop things like this happening again

Hopefully they didn't become too physical in their more...intimate relationship.

That is definitely a shame. Can you imagine the shock that would ensue after learning your spouse is actually your sibling...

I doubt they'll be laughing at that later on in life.

God.. how tragic and unlikely.

After hearing about things like this, I sure hope that it means that there is more information on siblings who are adopted. It's pretty cruel to separate twins at birth aswell, given that they can often show signs of relating to one another in the womb.
How traumatising though to find out the person you have fallen in love with is your own brother or sister >.< Sure, they never grew up together so wouldn't have that relationship, but it's still a really sick concept..

I read somewhere once about a man who owned a sperm clinic and was arrested for donating all of the sperm himself. That's really disgusting.. in 20 or so years time half-brothers and sisters could be getting together and.. procreating. o_O

Well, I think that if a family cannot support twins/triplets then it would make more sense to, ya know.. adopt a single-birth child?

QFT.

The only thing that stops that possibility is being brought up together.

I always believed that siblings should be adopted together.

That would have made sense, I mean fancy seperating twins it's ait heratless. Im sure there would have been a family out there taht would have loved to adopt twins. Woulda saved this mess they ended up in
