Dear Square, when are you going to die?

Hi,

I used to be a die hard fan of Square, denying the fact that they where dieing after the merge with Enix (FFX-2, GREAT decision!)
In almost 10 years time they managed to release 2 titles that seemed to keep me enjoyed relatively (Dissidia, Crisis Core)
And to be honest 1 amazing title that for me had the magic (The World Ends With You)

All you've managed to do is hype me for another dissapointment (Advent Children, Dissidia 012, Final Fantasy XII, XIII, XIII-2, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts BS for example) to the point where i can't deny it anymore and have to ask, when are you finally going to die?

It seems that FFXIII is complete crap, NEVER did the older Final Fantasy's have the need to use such a vile thing like a DATALOG.
I expect YOU as a respected Developer to incorporate every bit of data you have on the story in the game, not in a log! are you out of your damn mind!?.
What about the roots of Final Fantasy?, i've read interesting articles about them saying that the series had a unique ambiance/vibe/feel to it the music and the world merged seemlessly into one setting.
Why is this big key factor overlooked? im talking FFXIII-2 where commercialized asian rap plays wtf? that doesnt even fit!
If you wanna do it so badly then use good quality like Champloo did, is this so hard?

But to be honest, i overlooked these mistakes, but what made me reach the point of actually wanting you to die?
Well its the bad decisions you make, the incredible bad decisions that i just don't find any sane reason in
Spreading KH to different consoles, polluting the story so bad nobody can follow it.
Releasing Dissidia on a handheld system, im sorry but THAT game in my mind is MEANT for a CONSOLE!
Only doing 1 HD Remaster, look at Konami Peace Walker and the rest of the MGS HD collection looks fantastic, i want DISSIDA and CC and FFX in one package if possible but instead you decide to remaster just 1 game that i can buy for 5 bucks and go HD on the fly on pcsx2.

Your most hyped console game in production (FFXIII Versus) is still not even shown on E3,TGS (playable) and you decide to show crap that nobody asked for instead(FFXIV) no even worse you decided to showcase the damn thing 6 years ago!

And finally the horror of the infamous Final Fantasy VII PS3 Tech Demo which spawned so much hype that in almost every interview you get a request for a complete FF7 remake which you actually even hyped further by saying you'll think about it and that some of your staff is exited about but then decide to annihalate the hype by saying you cant do it because its too big.
But you can make a FFXIII-2 which almost nobody seemed to want from you? do we have a ff13citadel.com somewhere?

When are you going to die?, id rather see Bioware or Bethesda do a next FF then you.

I would play devil's advocate, but I can't. ^^; While I agree with most of what you have said, I'm still a Square Enix lover and I still have hope for them that they will continue to release some pretty great games. Personally, I love FFXIII and FFXIII-2, so perhaps that's why I don't want Square Enix to fall off the face of the planet just yet!

However, I can't lie. They've made some pretty crappy decisions lately and they've left a lot of FF fans hanging (*cough*FFXIII Versus anyone? Failed FFXIV project for PS3?*cough*). And honestly, I've pretty much given up on Kingdom Hearts after many of the games were being released for handheld consoles and the storyline was getting waaaay too complicated/messy. -___-

I didn't really mind the data-log, MGS4 did a similar thing – some people don't want to sit through hours of tedious exposition. I sensed bigger problems with FFXIII, the lack of interactivity (who remembers the bit in FFXIII where you arrive at the circus but the game won't let you interact with anything or anyone, and compare it to FFVII's hugely interactive Gold Saucer that was made on the 32bit Psone, it's eye-opening how lazy the developers are or how overly preoccupied they are with making the game look pretty instead of letting us play the game), the endless walled-in corridors, lack of NPCs and exploration, uncharismatic villains, everything that made Final Fantasy so enjoyable to play was stripped away and trashed to make the game more streamlined and accessible, but by doing so, the game lost its soul, it lost everything that made it Final Fantasy. There was a time I looked forward to new Final Fantasy games, but now, I don't care.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was a bit of challage, gamble and experiment but we knew that making Lightining Farron the center of attetion when she harldy appears in the game at all would help sell copies of the game.



After all it's graphics that are most important and fan-service. Those are what make a Final Fantasy great. Not storyline or decent character development. We also hoped you enjoyed our current spin on Final Fantasy music and going with a more 'hip' tune. We asked fans if they can 'Ride that Chocobo '? In a current hip-hop rappy tune that gives the game 'cool' twist. Isn't that great ? Having decent music like we did in the past with classics like Final Fantasy VIII is rather retro and lame and makes us look as a compamy look "un-cool ''. We believe as a company that this is important when creating games. For Final Fantasy XV we are planning to have rapper 50 Cent do the music for us and for the game. It's going to be totally badass and hip. Yo. Yo.

Final Fantasy Vs XII is development and we thankyou again for being patient. For your award we are currently designing Final Fantasy XIII- 3 and Final Fantasy XIII-4, Final Fantasy XIII the movie and Final Fantasy XIII-2 done within Lightning's POV. We called it FFXIII-2 5.5 Lightning's story. If you're wondering about DLC; yes they will be included and they will be $20 each and be mostly about clothes and all of the game's openings and endings.

The Kingdom Hearts series is not quite done yet as we also plain to create more games on the Nintendo 3DS and the PSP Vita. We do this because it gives us tons and craploads of money because fans are willing to jump consoles just to play a new KH game which are usually- total and complete shit. Isn't life just grand ? Kingdom Hearts 3 is going to be in development soon. We have space for 2056 when we are done with the Final Fantasy XIII series. Final Fantasy XIII VS should also be around 2089 as we also plan to push that futher away for a another whole set of Final Fanatsy XIV games and series.

But dear, MGS4 might had a datalog but it wasnt a necessity to understand the storyline maybe for new time players that didnt follow it from the start.

About all that stripping i agree, FFXIII was waay to linear run/scene/run/scene/battle/battle/battle/battle/battle/battle/battle.

There was a time where i thought that too but instead of improving they keep deproving (dunno if thats a word) themselves to the point where it feels like its dying instead of climbing the ladder of creative success.

Its like they're trying to climb a ladder of financial succes which should not be the viewpoint of an company that makes RPG games.

All companies want financial success. That's the reason they make games, to sell them for a profit. I mean...would you go to work if you weren't going to get paid for it? If you spent time designing something would you not want to make as much from it as possible? All games are made to sell, to make money. Who doesn't want to make more? They're just going about it the wrong way, the way things are going with the franchise is not going to make them more money, it's going to make them less. If they have any sense they'll realise why though, considering how much complaints there are online about the things they're doing.

X-2 released March 13, 2003 in Japan and the merger happened on April 1, 2003.

I love when people whine about Square doing exactly what other companies are also doing, and act like they are somehow more evil because of it. If you don't like the games, no one is forcing you to buy them or play them. It's that simple.

Did you even read the OP's first note Ke$ha ? It's not really about the FF VII remake. It's about how Square is pissing about making FFXIII-2, shitloads of KH games and FF spin offs that nobody is really going to jump handhelds for like Four Warriors of Light and not really listening towards the fans. Fans are grumpy because we've been waiting for Versus which should of came out ages ago. It would of if Square didn't fool around making new games that don't really create much fan interest and don't really do well in the sales. Yet they're thinking of making a FF XIII-3 when FF XIII-2 did terrible in the sales chart.

It's not really a rant about wanting a FFVII remake per say; it's about fans asking for certain things from SE and SE teasing the fans that they might do it but it could take a long time- but then spewing out all these new KH, FF13 and spin off games. They tell fans that they can't do things and that they're working on Versus- but then piss around with newer and ''get rich quick " cheap like games like KH Coded. Which ended up being unesscary btw.

Versus should of came out about 2008 on the PS3 but it didn't. They could of apologized saying that they were busy working on FF13 but they didn't and instead spewed out more titles making Versus's release date futher and further away and fans more upset and furious.

About the FFVII remake. It's not a " We want a FFVII remake nooowww " ! / stamps feet like a baby thread. It's a SquareEnix is making poor choices thread.

Firstly, just because YOU don't like their games doesn't mean other people don't! Seriously, I find a lot of games they made enjoyable, Dragon Quest series (VIII and IX, rest were remakes but still fun), Final Fantasy Series (yes I mean the ones after they became Square enix, XII, XIII, XIII-2 Etc.), Kingdom Hearts series, Star Ocean, 3 and 4,
and some of the companies they own are making very promising games, Deus-ex, Batman Arkham City (yes they had there paws in that game) I know people around here like Dead Island guess what... Square owned that company also.

and some promising games like Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution, Sleeping Dogs... guess what... all owned by Square-Enix...

and as far as this FF VII Tech demo goes...
