Inspired by the Seymour topic. I personally think there is no main villain in X but the title for who's the real hero in X is quite up for debate.

Tidus - Without him, Yuna would have just died and changed nothing. Most of the game is told from his perspective.

Yuna - She's the one who actually defeats Sin and Yu Yevon thanks to her aeons. The game is all about her Pilgrimage.

Well they are both technically heros in the game. Both wanted to save Spira and both were willing to sacrifice themselves.
Tidus willing went after Sin even though he knew he was going to disappear at the end

If you meant who is the main character, I'd have to say Tidus. The story is being told from his point of view and his role is very significant at the end.
His connection with Ject, and he also proclaims, "This is my story!"
Plus you control him.

What about Auron? Not only did he command the unwavering respect of the entire group and indeed cast of FFX but he was always the more experienced head and undoubtably the driving force behind the group. I'd go so far as saying the whole party was hand led to Zanarkand by Auron.

His heartwarming motives were perfectly complimented by his unfliching dedication to Yuna and Braska and his professionalism was second to none in FFX. He was the only character I could actually take seriously (including the very aloof Lulu and Kimahri) when speaking, someone who had been through it and provided first hand experience throughout the journey.

I think it would be Tidus because although it was Yuna's pilgrimage, Tidus was the reason that they saved Yuna and defeating sin for good. (Plus he was the main character.)

Id save Yuna. She has to go and give her life for the people of Yevon and thats a hard thing to do. 17 and she knows shes going to die. That takes great courage and determination. So in my eyes Yunnie is the real hero, Tidus was just the muscle!

This is a hard one, but I would have to say Tidus.

It was his story and he was the one who was ultimately sacrificed at the end. He knew that he would disappear and yet still had the will to move forward and figure out a way to save Yuna and Spira and defeat Sin.

It's a hard one because they both had the same mindset and were both willing to give up their lives for the same reasons.

I just have to go with Tidus on this one though.

I voted Tidus for the reasons mentioned above. It's (mostly) his story, and definitely told from his perspective. Plus, there's only one time in the entire game where you don't have control over him.

On that note, I'm going to have to say Auron. Again, above reasons, but also, without Auron figuring out a way to go get Tidus, the story doesn't start. Yes, I know that's a lame way to look at it, but that's how I look at it.

wow. I never thought about this before. I guess I'd have to say both are. Neither could have defeated sin without the other. But I would consider Tidus the main protagonist since you control him for 99% of the game.

Philosophically speaking, I'd say Yuna, because she sacrifices the most. The rest of the post contains spoilers.
Yuna spends her entire life in preparation to be a summoner, she then undergoes a profound, spiritual pilgrimage, facing many obstacles to accomplish that end. Tidus spends his early life playing blitzball and trying to step out of the shadow of his father. And he spends most of the pilgrimage trying to get in Yuna's pants. Yuna shows Tidus the gravity of the human condition. Tidus shows Yuna how to laugh...and to whistle. Ultimately, people might say that Tidus sacrifices more, because he sacrifices his life. However, death ceases to be a harm for the deceased upon their death. It is a terrifying and noble step, but once beyond that precipice, Tidus is either committed to some pleasant afterlife, or complete nothingness. It is Yuna who must deal with the emotional fallout of Tidus' absence. At the end of the day it is Yuna, not Tidus who issues the heartbreaking, lonely whistle at the end of the Luca pier. Yuna is the hero here, Tidus is a noble, commendable sidekick.

I inspired this topic? Im honered!
I would say Tidus.
He IS the main character, its seen from his point of view and its him its all about. Sure Yuna is the one to do the "Finisher" but without Tidus, what would have happened? They could easily have found another summoner.
So yeah...Tidus it is!

Well technically they both share the spotlight as the main protagonists, however I do feel that Tidus'es story and role plays a much bigger part in the grand finale than Yuna's story.

We also tend to hear more about Tidus'es story as the storyline progresses, often being treated to several parts of Tidus'es past with Jecht and his natural growth as a character is a lot more noticable than Yuna's.

I would say Tidus... as much as it pains me to say. Yuna would be the obvious hero since she's the one who's actually said to herself, OK, so I am gonna go give my life for the people of Spira, I'm gonna do this pilgrimage to defeat Sin... but then, Tidus is really the one who goes for it. Even though at times he whines like a girl, he still learned the weight of his responsilbility and goes for it.

But I read the post by Harlequin made me think... maybe Auron really is the hero. :D

Both. But more so Yuna. That women was willing to sacrifice herself, and let anyone do anything with her (..ew?)
ie Marrying Seymour.

Even when presented with the wonderful idea of being with Tidus in Zanarkand and realizing that she doesn't have to do this-- she still stops and says, noo- I do have to- because that is who I am.

I'd say Tidus, simply because he challenges the way everything was. Without him there would have been no change, arguably Auron as well, but he knows through experience rather than by challenging the accepted wisdom. Yuna was quite happy to die as a sacrifice to defeat sin for a certain period of time. Which makes her no different from any other summoner and therefore less of a hero comparatively.

:hmmm: You have a point there.

What about Auron?
:hmmm: I was thinking of that too. However, I think both Yuna and Tidus played a more significant role then Auron.

They both are the hero really. I mean Yuna does all the things to become a summoner but without Tidus coming up with the
false hope?
thing, Yuna would just end up
dying for good
while it was Tidus who came up with the idea and ended up saving more lives.
Plus Tidus is the main character and you see through his eyes not Yuna's.

Sure you could say that Yuna "sacrificed" herself and that's why she's the real hero but really she chose to do so and was more then happy to do it to save Spira. as Björk had said.

I'd have to lean more towards Tidus though.

Did people forget that Tidus was willing to sacrifice himself too? He did charge right at Yu Yevon knowing that he would disappear if Yu Yevon was defeated. I'd say that makes him just as noble as Yuna and even moreso because he went through with everything and did end up being sacrificed. (And he never complained or was upset when he learned what his fate would be if Sin were defeated)

I am guessing so many people chose Tidus because he is the main character but Yuna had all those Aons and what not to do work.:notfunny:
