Just curious if people here are still interested in the game and if you have hope that 2.0 will make this the experience it was meant to be. I really want to play this game but I'm just not satisfied with it the way it is now. And there just isn't enough information on 2.0 to tell me if this game is going to be the game I want. So I'm just interested what this community thinks and if any of you are going to be playing 2.0 when it launches. I most likely will and it would be nice to play with people from this community ;)

I may give it a shot, but to be honest, it's got a lot of impressing to do. Not only does it need to be a million times better, but it has to be able to beat out the likes of Guild Wars 2. That is not going to be easy.

I agree. The MMORPG genre is getting pretty saturated. On launch, FFXIV felt like most of them with really pretty graphics. The game is going to have to reconnect with Final Fantasy fans first and then convince other MMO players that this game is better than others. I honestly don't think they will be able to pull it off. But I am going to give SE the chance.

Well, for the sake of those that have already put money into the first version of the game I hope 2.0 is good and well worth their purchase, but I'll stick with the regular FFs, personally. I've never been much into multiplayer games (except locally)--I'd much prefer to engage in a more tightly-controlled story.

MMORPGs are simply to hard core for me, if you value your future and/or social life, don't play.

Exactly.

A quality MMORPG is one you don't have to play 8-16 hours a day, everyday, to be competitive. :cookie:

Not having to pay to be competitive is another trait of a quality MMORPG.

Unfortunately, the current methodology for building MMORPG's involves 'micro-transactions' and assorted methods of 'generating revenue'.

Makes quality MMORPG's difficult to come by. :cookie:

Which is why I recommend anyone who doesn't like MMO's or simply doesn't want to spend all day on one to play Guild Wars 2. For those looking for hardcore experiences, it has them. For those who can't invest that much time and need a casual game, it caters to that rather well. This is why GW2 is such a threat for a lot of MMO's right now. Combine that with the fact that you don't need to pay a monthly fee to play, people are going to flock to it.

well that's pretty much how any game that has endgame in it is

plenty of players who only play 3 days a week in MMOs and still remain competitive. Actually, since the release of Dragon Soul in World of Warcraft, I myself, have only been logging in for raid nights (tuesday, thursday. 6h/week). As a Warrior, I'm personally biased towards the state of PvP at the moment, and strongly disapprove of it - so I just don't take part in it, which is a very big part of the game.

Cut that out because Ghostcrawler couldn't figure out how to pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were on the heel, and all you have is dragon slaying. PvP is a very diverse part of the game, but I just cannot tolerate it in it's current state, and I would be playing the game significantly more if I could. But it's so fruitless.

But I will say though, if you don't have 8+/168 hours a week to dedicate to an MMO, you probably should not be playing it in the first place. Many groups perform their activities 2-3 times a week, possibly less and usually play anywhere from 2-4 hours on those days.

But on topic, in the past I wanted to get a look at FFXIV, but I don't think that I have ever seen them give out free trials. I remember not liking FFXI because it's UI sucked and I couldn't find anything, but with every passing day I'm becoming less interested in WoW. I was actually looking to see if there were any decent F2P MMOs out there last night.

I hear that Age of Conan is getting pretty good. Especially for a free to play MMO. That might be worth checking out.

I enjoyed a lot of FFXIV last summer when I had stuff to do with a populated Linkshell (guild). But one by one, all the members were leaving and I eventually just stopped playing because I realized how little there was to do in the game. Other than camping notorious monsters for gear with low drop rate. When I played again, a few months ago, the game suddenly felt more like FFXI. I was partying with people I didn't know for several hours. And then they would just disappear as quickly as they came and I never saw them again. I felt so disconnected. Maybe it isn't the game's fault, maybe the blame is more on the community. But I still think the game had a hand in creating this interaction because it forced players to grind on the same few monsters just to get any leveling done. I guess most hardcore players were bitching because guildleves made the game too easy. I don't even know what I want in FFXIV anymore. I guess I just want a game that is fun to play and feels like I can accomplish something. You know, like the other Final Fantasy games.

Anyway, there seems to be a lot of good insight from you all. It looks like what we need as gamers are different tiers of MMORPG games. I'm very interested in playing Guild Wars 2. It looks like a game that understands me as a casual gamer.

I'm actually one of the few who purchased FFXIV when it first released for the PC. Having been a former FFXI player, I was pretty anxious to play it. I absolutely loved FFXI to death! I actually formed some very nice friendships on there && created some fond memories... Unfortunately, my desktop's specs weren't capable of running FFXIV. I realized that it wasn't just me though, and that it was merely the game's high standards. xD

In any case, after two years of giving up on the game, I decided to try it out again && it's been able to run on my laptop, although it's awfully laggy && annoying. x__x I don't play it so much now, but I leveled up a bit in different classes. I was a bit turned off by the random new classes (Classes of Land/Hand, imitation WHM [CNJ] /BHM [THM] classes, etc.), but I think the battle system is an overall improvement.

Also, the community is rather small... *sigh* && even though they have recently merged servers, I think the overall FFXIV population is undoubtedly a lot smaller than those in most MMO games (including pay-to-play ones). I think it's a shame that the game did not meet fans' expectations. I was sincerely looking forward to a PS3 release since it would run a lot more smoothly for sure, but it sort of failed. ^^;

I have to agree with your post in its ENTIRETY.

That said, and even though this is somewhat off topic,

I have much higher hopes on Elder Scrolls Online.

Perhaps the game that will finally bring me over to the dark side (MMO's)

I suppose my experience is different because I got into a linkshell that is extremely friendly and helpful and we all talk on Ventrilo, making it easy to talk and focus on the game. I immediately leveled my Pugilist/Monk to level 50 so I could participate in all the new things the development team has implemented. I haven't played recent though. I guess I am just discouraged from doing tons of Garuda fights and not coming out on top in any of them. (and I'm really enjoying Dragon's Dogma.

Anyway, for the OP, I say give it a chance when 2.0 comes out. They're are changing the entire layout of the map outside towns, adding a very interesting summoning system, and adding chocobo raising ( but not just for riding, they are going to be usable in battle). I think it is going to feel much much more like a traditional Final Fantasy game, which is a good thing. ;)

Yup, I saw this and I'm pretty excited. I do think SE is really trying to fix this game. I played a few months ago to try out the new job system. I just got discouraged because of the hours I spent shouting for party invites in Uldah just to try and level up. I felt like I was playing FFXI again. I think I mentioned that over the summer of 2011, I was in a pretty active linkshell. But when I returned, the LS was inactive so that probably didn't help my experience all that much.

So yeah, I'll give 2.0 a try. I'm just hoping that some of my friends who are waiting for the PS3 launch still plan on playing it with me.

Well, the leves really help to level up. I went from level 43 to 50 in about 10 hours over 3 days or so, and it was pretty fun doing it too. I am working on Dragoon right now and I'm having a blast. I cannot wait to get my "artifact" gear for it.

i'm interested in what they are doing,I certainly will be watching their progress. I like their approach of fixing the game and improving it and i'm looking forward in anticipation and hope that it will be a resounding success. i've never really got into mmo games, I tried aion but wasn't into it so i'm hoping if the relaunch is good this will be one mmo that I can enjoy.

I am really debating if I want this or not...

In the end I guess it depends on the final price when it finally hits the PS3 sometime next year....

It looks like it really is getting better, but at the same time, I have never been a huge fan of MMO's, although I did find some really good way back in the day... and I did like XI for a while there....

Considering I've been playing FF14 for a couple months, I totally am! I'm excited to see the changes, even now in its transition period the game is really good.

I'm in two minds about it tbh, I want to give it another go, I really do. The main thing that holds me back is that tbh, it was insulting how unfinished the game was at release. Not even close to anything worthy of release. So many bugs, unfinished programming, the world was tiny!!!!!!! I'm going to stop there, lest I put someone off from playing it haha.

I might wait for it to be released on PS3 and check out the reviews after that. If things are looking up, I might blow the dust off the box.

I've loved FFXIV even with it's supposed horrible launch. I am well aware of its imperfections, but how can anyone not be seduced by the beauty of a young Miqo'te, the cuteness of an adorable lalafell, and the sweet-ass body of a highlander (no homo)?

In fact, I loved it so much that I made my own unofficial guide to reaching rank 40 of any fighting/mage class. It's on FFXIVcore. Request me the link and I may be able to dig it out, but there are no guarantees.

I've been playing it again here and there. Just a few hours during a night when I have some downtime from school work. Been pretty excited about 2.0 though. I'm running out of things to do besides leveling another job that I don't really care for.
