I know i want subtitles.

not that i hate localized voice acting (and i admit, some of them were just amazing), but i'd much rather see subtitles to this game. especially with the high quality rendered cg, this may be a bit tricky to localize to english.

if anything, they can just make an option like Star Ocean - A New Hope, in the config, so we can choose whether we want eng or jpn and choose our language subs. and please don't tell me to get the jpn version, i know ps3 is region free but i can't read menus.. so what's the fun in that?

and last of all, i just like the jpn voice acting. and maybe it's just me and too much fansubbed anime, but they capture more of the emotion. and definitely with this game, the voices in jpn sound amazing.

who's with me?

nope.

Sure Japanese voices are great but I would rather have Engish voices so I understand things better.

Wait a minute are you saying you'd prefer subs over voice?

I think it would be rather odd seeing vs XIII just in subs only.....
But subtitles do have their disadvantages.....while your playing the game your looking more towards the words than the rest of the screen.....It can be quite distracting.

It depends what I make of the quality of the English release of the game's voice acting. If it is dire, I wouldn't mind having a subtitle option as I'm pretty much used to reading subtitles anyway. I wouldn't want this to be a mandatory option though, as subtitles are clearly not for everybody, but if it's optional I would welcome it. Still, I'm not fussed about voice acting most of the time anyway. English voice acting can certainly be great and it would just be a generalisation to claim that English voices will certainly be inferior to Japanese voice acting.

If they made the game subbed and only subbed, the game would lose probably 75% of its audience because a load of people would be turned off from the game due to having to listen to another language, and reading. Plus, reading words at the bottom of the screen distracts from the gorgeous visuals. If it's an optional setting, then that's okay. The Last Remnant had that feature. I'd rather listen to the English voices, myself. But if you require Japanese vocals for some reason, other than your own language (which is bizzare), then like you said, get the Japanese version.

I'm saying personally I prefer subs just because I like hering japanese voices how they're intended. But I understand that disadvantage which is why I suggested it be like star ocean the last hope international where you get to choose audio and subtitle language.

I think there is some kind of gaming law (lol) that says hard disc games HAVE to have English VAs if there's voice acting being released for the English market or something :hmmm:

I don't see Versus have dual language though since FFXIII didn't, but if they did, that's fine by me.

However, I can't say I've been unhappy with the voice acting coming from S-E games for the last couple of years. I have faith Versus' English VAs aren't going to be terrible.

I'd rather not read through the Cutscenes. I like to look at all the awesome backgrounds and look at the characters rather than read some subtitles and miss the beautiful graphics...
I think they should have an option though, like first play through you could choose English, second play through you could use Japanese with subtitles? :)

I would be ok with all text based but I prefer to have english voices and subtitles.

In reality it should be optional to have the audio (yes no) language (eng jap etc) and text (yes no) and language for text.

Well they should have this option for like DLC..:hmmm:
Where you can download SUBS/AUDIO etc.. that would patch your game into the version you'd like..hehe :lew:

I have to agree with DarkShadow a bit..it would distract maybe? although I always put the subs on even when its english cause sometimes they talk too fast or not loud enough.

It wont happen, unfortunately you will have to get the Japanese version.

Also I love Japanese subs cuz I watched animes many times before, but I saw Ergo Proxy last time and let me tell you I liked the DUBBED version more than the SUBBED version..something that doesnt occur very often...so you see sometimes english voice are better..

Another example - DBZ ... the subbed version made Goku a shrilled old lady who screams with the top of her longues...

No, for three reasons.

1) I would despise having to read subtitles because it's in a foreign language, I don't mind subtitles when it's in English since you don't feel forced to read them... but in Versus XIII, nothnx.

2) From the little voice acting in the Japanese trailer of Versus, I wasn't exactly amazed by the Japanese voiceovers.

3) Cutscenes would be a disaster. The game will be designed so that the characters look like they are speaking in English, having Japanese voice acting with the lip syncing of English would look horrendous.

I honestly prefer japanese audio than english. I don't see why there is no option to change the audio and sub in final fantasy games. Sure they have to work harder by including alternate lip-sync, etc etc, but I believe it's worth it for Japanese language fans like me. In fact, I will be very happy if other future titles like XIII-2 have such system. Oh, and also the option to change the english theme song to japanese theme song :D

As for those who prefer English dubs, there can always be an option to turn it off.

:ffs: Subtitles would be a HUGE turnoff for me because I'd be sitting there focusing on reading what people in the game are saying and not focusing on the characters themselves...and I'd feel like I was watching a foreign film or something. I want to hear Noctis's voice and Stella's voice in English, not read a bookfull of subtitles trying to understand what they are saying in the game.

Honestly, no matter how ridiculous the voice actors are...they are better than subtitles... and why would a person ever suggest subtitles over spoken voices...unless you are attending a foreign film festival?

English speaking people buy video games too and I don't think speaking in English is going to ruin a game that was made by the Japanese. When they sell video games, they need to make the game palatable to all different markets, not just a portion of them.

I'd like to have the option of watching it in Japanese OR in English. Lots of PS3 games give you that option these days, so why not Final Fantasy?

I wouldn't mind the option for english sub's and the Japanese voice acting but I would rather play the game with english voice acting as I don't have to try and read what the characters are trying to say all the time. I don't usually find anything wrong with english voice acting but it would be nice to have the option to change the audio and subtitle language

Now that you mention it...

yes, I would. it's not something i think about really. it's like when i first started watching anime. i saw english dubbed on tv, then i wanted to watch newer stuff so i settled for japanese with eng subs and it was way better, i agree that eng dub with video games can be and is often good or great but it would be nice to have an english dubbed game with the option of japanese with subs while having the correct cutscene/mouth movements to match the voice acting. I realize this would bring the memory to 1.5x or more but I would even be willing to pay a bit extra for this feature. who else wouldn't mind a little price bump for a special edition with these options?
