SPOILERS Was 9 ruined by the ending?

T thought the game got kinda weird near the end - the style of it seemed to change.. I guess it kinda made it more interesting even if it didnt quite fit with the beginning of the game.

I think it would have been interesting to discover a mysterious mastermind who had been hiding in the shadows influencing Kuja.

Oh you mean like in FF4 where you find out that Golbez was really being controlled all along by a moonite... heh I mean a lunarian

Golbez : FuSoYa never told you what happened to your brother.
Cecil : He told me enough, he told me you killed him~!!
Golbez : No Cecil, I am your brother.
Cecil : NOOOooooOOOOO~!!!!

I loved the ending. It turned out sooo well. And I enjoy weird... That is probably a lot of the reason I liked it so much. And the fact that the very end was happy. =)

The ending was a bit confusing, I had to do some extra reading on it to make sure I knew what I was trying to understand. I do agree that I would of thought that if they made Kuja the final boss, or a 2/3 part boss (like the previous two FF's) then it would of made more of a difference, I just didn't feel any passion of Necron who was introduced to the game RIGHT at the end
and you aren't even told he is the Iifa Tree
.

The game itself though, I thought the transition from Medieval to Fantasy was quite well planned, it had to turn somewhat fantastical anyway, it's the whole point of the series :wacky:

I think the Necron bit was abit....pointless....I can't really remember much because I haven't played it for ages but I just remember thinking who the f*** is this guy? I mean, I couldn't even remember his name until I read this thread!!!!
I agree that Kuja should of been the final boss as there was already a relationship built up with his character. Necron felt like a sidequest monster or something

Personally I think Necron ruined it. I love Kuja and he could have been such a badass final boss, but then Necron appears out of nowhere and it's like.... what the hell?! I love everything else about the game though, and once Necron's gone the ending is pretty good, particulary the scene with Zidane running along the Iifa Tree..... but to the OP, I don't think the stuff about the two worlds colliding ruined it - it needed something to make it more epic, and that did. But like I said, I wish Kuja had been the very last boss, and had been much harder to beat.

I kinda agree here. I don't think Necron neccessarily ruined it, but rather, Necron seemed kinda like an afterthought. It worked though. I really enjoyed this game, even the redemption of Kuja at the very end.

the ending was a bit wierd.
if they had stayed on the story of them being bros it might had been better
but they decided to make two worlds crash which in my mind was like "oh we done mint ending for ff7 and ff8 but want can we do for ff92
"what bout worlds crashing together "
"yeah thts gd"
souds like 2 office workers getting drunk lol
but yeah the ending was ok with tehe bros storyline

I didn't think the ending ruined the game at all, although it was a little cliche. Since it's Final Fantasy, they could have thought of something more original and/or symbolic. It was quite an average fairytale ending.

I'm not sure what would have made it better but, while it didn't ruin it, it certainly could have been improved.

I'm with Lirael on this. It was a rather cliche ending, but I still loved it anyway. I was hoping for some more impact...I don't know what though. Maybe Zidane dying...but no, that would be too much since I did like the fact that Garnet and Zidane had a happy ever after. I do enjoy happy endings. I guess this game is just one of those that fits that style, unlike FFX, which is so damn brilliant!

And I do agree with how everyone felt about Necron. He didn't even threaten me with his appearance because there was no tension build-up, whatsoever.

i thought the ending was great i liked the part where steiner and beatrix hold the save the queen up together i think there should be a sequel theres lots of stuff that couldve carried on like kuja coming back some new eviler villain couldve grabed garnets necklace to do something destructive with it steiner and beatrix coulve been married fratly may have remembered freya etc...

You've got me all wrong - I'm not talking about the ending... ENDING (i.e. last video).

I'm talking about the whole "Memoria, Crystal World and Final Dimension" rubbish.

Personally, I think the story would have been much better if Garland had of been human and been Kuja's and Zidane's father. Towards the end Zidane would go to another castle in Gaia where both lived and kicked both their arses there.

All that strange underworld rubbish ruined it for me. The life and death part about Vivi was good, but the the two worlds colliding was just over the top...

I think that the whole Necro thing is just an excuse to have an extra boss on the end! They must have got bored of the same boss respawning 3 or 4 times in different forms (sephiroth, ultimecea.. etc) and decided to just have 3 seperate fights - not complaining though!

As for the story branching out toward Terra/Gaia, and memoria, it just makes the tale more interesting i feel.. I suppose if the whole story had involved just going afer Kuja on Gaia and nothing else - Im sure the game would have been a lot shorter and definatly not as good. The Memoria thing co-incides with the idea that the memories of others live on inside you. The cystal world, although obscure, was still good IMO.. i do think however that they should have made this a bigger place rather than 4 or 5 screens and a couple of battles until the boss.. but then you did have to go all the way through memoria to get there so it would probably be a pain hehe!

Ive not read all these pages, but imo, it has the best ending in an FF game.

FF9 is my personal favorite in the series, i cant decide whats better, 7 or 9

I think theyr all as good as each other, I dont really compare them tbh as I like them all. Each one (apart from 12 which was so poor it let the whole game down IMO) is so rewarding, you have travelled all this way, gone so far, and you finally get to see what it was all for. 9 is great, really nostalgic, and full of twists and turns right up to the last scene.

Theres alittle secret at the end, if you wait until the very last screen that says 'the end,' press

R1, L1, R2, R2, UP, X, RIGHT, O, DOWN, TRIANGLE, L2, R1, R2, L1, SQUARE, SQUARE, THEN START

you can play cards! genius!

Lol, i don't think the chances of that happening are high though the idea would be nice to see..! ^_^

No. Just no. And there's such a thing as "grammar", you should use it. It'd make your posts easier to read.

As much as I love Kuja, we don't need villains coming back. We've had enough of that cliche with Advent Children.

An "eviler" (that's not a real word) villain grabbing Garnet's necklace wouldn't do any good. It worked in conjunction with Eiko's, so being by itself wouldn't do anything more than a normal summon.

Plus, were IX to get a sequel, it wouldn't be done by Sakaguchi and would probably be led by graphics-whore Nomura. In other words, it would be a flashy game with no heart, just like everything else Nomura touches. It ended perfectly, we don't need another X-2. Not to mention IX probably doesn't have a big enough fan base to warrant a sequel.
