I wanna further expand my artistic abilities to Video making & Editing. I have no knowledge of such, and I wanna learn all I can.

So if there are any video editors here and, I'd like some pro tips. Plus a decent free software I can adjust to.

I've actually been wanting to start learning this since last year, but I just couldn't find the right software, nor the time for such. Sure I have time for graphics, but videos and such take more time and patience.

I have a disc with an video editor called - Easy VideoEditor 3.0, and I'll start with that.

I use Sony Vegas 9. Its not free but its what I started out using and I've stuck with it over time.

It may also be good to have an app to download video clips from youtube & similar sites & another to convert .flv to .avi or another format more commonly utilized by video editors. Sometimes, its good to dl codec packs also to have proper support.

I'm not sure if its 'ok' to say which programs I use for that due to it being somewhat borderline, but if you want to know PM me or contact me off forum & I'll tell you. Also, keep in mind that youtube downloader and other apps utilized for similar purposes often contain malware. Pirated software with keygen.exe or similar files are often trojans or assorted malware. I know people said for a long time that the AV positives on that were incorrect, but according to recent studies its not necessarily the case.

For audio editing, I would recommend: goldwave. Its freeware & by far the best app I've found thus far. I've tried wavepad, audigy and similar apps in the past and goldwave is by far the best, imo.

For tutorials, etc - the best source may be youtube or other resource sites.

Your skill at graphics will translate to video editing a lot of the time also as video editing uses a lot of the same effects & filters, etc.

But, TBH, I'm n00b @ video editing and everything I've made thus far has been a little embarrassing. lol

:argor:

edit -

Here's something I made awhile ago to semi-troll people.

It was for a WWII 'axis vs allies' browser MMORPG.

Sony Vegas is definitely the way to go, though I'd keep away from the newer versions, as they seem to have more issues than the older ones. :hmmm:

You can type in Sony Vegas in google and it will bring up the Sony website which allows you to download trial versions of Sony Vegas.

Go through a few trials and see how you go. There's a lot more to it then your regular video editing programs such as the Windows Media programs.

I'm using Sony Vegas 9.0 at the moment and I want to upgrade to at least 10 because it allows you to upload higher quality videos to the internet. I think version 11 is the most recent but it has a few issues. :hmmm:

But yeah as I said, download a few trials and see what you think. :)

i'll agree as well, vegas is the best option for video editing, I use vegas movie studio platinum HD 10 for my videos for the last 7 months (since i got the desktop) but for free option windows movie maker 2.6 is not a bad choice, it has the timeline like vegas soo basic editing tasks are here and you get quite a few video effects, windows movie maker was one of the few good things that came from vista XD the site does say it for vista but tested it and it works on Windows 7 as well.

jashaka is meant to be the most powerful free video editing software around, i read that even some film companies use this software, it looks like it works the same as vegas soo it a free version of vegas, their even got a new version coming out in 2 weeks :D

as for tips, get software that can download youtube videos, might help with getting raw video, also. render in the same resolution as the raw video, otherwise quality is going to go down :/ apart from that hopes this helps, and good luck

i would go against what has already been said, and look at either avid or final cut pro. they're both damned expensive, but they're of the highest standard and you definitely get what you pay for, particularly with final cut.

I personally use Premiere Pro 1.5, which has always worked well. In Premiere, you can layer movies, use several kinds of fade, add several effects to your video to change the colour, saturation, brightness, etc.

I found Sony Vegas very difficult to work with, although the Sony Vegas effects I've seen in videos made by advanced editors have surpassed the effects you can get/use in Premiere Pro.

You can download free trials of Premiere too, so it might be a good idea to try out Premiere AND Vegas and see which you prefer. You can still make superb videos with Premiere! :)

Edit: Here's a video made by me using Premiere Pro.

Yeah, I've asked one of my friends, who edits Video Game clips and uploads them to Youtube, and he uses Sony Vegas 10.

I will try out the trials for Premiere Pro, since I already have the trial for Sony Vegas.

Thanks everyone. You should look forward to me posting a video. Once I get a handle of it.
