After the horror of Cats I was delighted when a track from Jeff Wayne’s musical version of War of the Worlds popped up on my iPod earlier. This is a musical I actually do hold quite dearly! I went to see it live once.

This track is The Spirit of Man. After the martians have already begun to transform the landscape of Earth after successfully conquering it, a mad parson has lost his faith and mistakenly believes that the martians are Satan’s spawn. His wife tries to help him see reason but he is beyond it. While maybe not my favourite song from War of the Worlds, this is quite a powerful scene in a very unique and (in my opinion) underappreciated musical.

I particularly love the darkness of the guitar part at 6:50 onwards. It is so gloomy, depressing and post-apocalyptic and I do love it.

Ross Oh lord, that song is so bad in all the wrong ways, had completely forgotten about it...

Pause it, play it,
Pause it, play it,
Pause it.

Play it cool!

We won't stand for hazy eyes anymore.

I don't know. I really like Vangelis in general. His film scores are wonderful (Blade Runner, Chariots of Fire, 1492: Conquest of Paradise and so on).

Throw in Jon Anderson from Yes and you have a very unique thing going on.

This is very relaxing.

Been a while since I listened to this. I do like chilling to it from time to time.

Plus I definitely agree that we're never gonna survive unless we get a little crazy.

A most accurate depiction of the 80s to be honest.

Not that I lived through it, but it surely must be how it was.

Sometimes I miss early 2010-2012~ and sometimes I'm glad I'm not there anymore
