Well, just a thought i had suddenly.

I think this forums could do with a new skin! Well, i mean, it would appear that this forums have been using this skin since i found it like, a few years back. Could it be possible to create/buy/find a new skin as an alternative for members to use?

Added a poll to see public opinion with regards to this. Please select either 'Yes' or 'No' and explain why too! Me.. I chose 'Yes', of course, the reason as stated above. Sudden thought.
 
Yes, a new skin would be great but...

You've got a million to one chance of that happening. To start off with, I don't think anyone would be willing to pay for a new skin added to the fact that we don't have a tech admin to install it and I very much doubt LG has the time to do it himself, hence, that idea goes out the window.

Secondly, whilst yes we could get a member to design one, there may be one member on here who could do it, two at most. And even then, the chances of them having the ability to slice the correct sections and code it are very slim, in which again leads to the problem we'd then have no one to install it, hence, there goes that idea also.

Furthermore, regarding the forum, from what I've been told the amount of hacks installed have completely fucked over the coding so it would needed someone very experienced with the technical side of things to code it and at the same time, ensure the forum isn't killed by doing so.

The only thing I can think of that could be changed with relative ease are the buttons, the little msn icons etc (as Jess brought that up a while ago), and the banner. And I know fine well the banner can be changed because it was brought up in the HQ stating there should/could be a banner contest with last years banner, the ones entered in the GFX Tournament and the winner of a separate competition should be available to use.

However, I'm not 100% sure what admins privileges in the ACP are so I'm not sure if they can change the banner, although I think they might be able to.

I hope that pretty much sums up why we won't be able to get a new skin anytime soon. :gmonster:
 
Wow. That explained it fully... Well, I guess we'll have to wait till someone be nice enough to offer it when the time comes... I didn't think there were hacks involved here though, i thought those were all additional things that came with VBulletin.
 
I like this skin anyway. It's dark, simple and clean (simple and clean, lol).
I think that some members here are fed up with the skin but like Merculiar said, we just can't get it. However, it doesn't hurt to pray.

Well, its not like we can't bear with this anyway... After having seen this same skin for like a year or more, I suppose it isn't that difficult.
 
No, because you people have clearly shown your irresponsibility when it comes to picking heterosexual color combinations. This style is classy cool. As long as that style remains, a new take on that concept might be cool. However, I have a feeling this style will be abandoned faster than a nightclub after Andy Dick shows up... and it'll go straight to "We're here. We're queer. We're big ,bright, and colorful". Screw that.
 
Theres been so many topics about this and everytime it's been denied.

I like the skin as it is. It makes it "FFF" to me. It's very simple, dark and not hard to look at. Also, i think this has been the same skin since the start of FFF :monster:that would make it 2 and a half years i think.

It's never been written-off - we've simply never been able to do it. If you'd spoken to any of the team, you'd realise that most, if not all, of us are desperate for a new skin. The reasons for the lack of a new one's development is highlighted in Mercurial's post above.
 
It's simple and it suits this site. However, I'm also afraid that this new skin revamp would eventually turn into some Dorthy Wizard of Oz color-scheme that would be too outrageous to look at.

There has been a problem with this site for the last few years of no one working on the skins. I think it was 6 months ago that there was a stir about username colours on the bottom well they did get one person to change that, but I don't think the guy stayed.

LG changed it, every time we change a usergroup color, he changes the colors on the bottom :monster:

I think a new skin, while desirable, won't be happening any time soon. Our lack of Tech Admin / Graphics Designer is particularly problematic.
 
If I find a person who knows CSS then I might be able to get a skin made, but I had a hard time working before.
I am just now learning the code.

Forget that I just found a program that any GFX person would want. http://www.blumentals.net/rapidcss/index.php
It enables you to use hex in order to make skins, but not only that it also allows you to create the skin from colours you get. (hex code not required) With that it might be possible to make a Skin.
 
Problem is, why the effort is appreciated, learning the basics may get a skin made and even coded, but coded for this site? No.
I know from when our last Tech Admin mentioned making a skin LG said how difficult it would be because of all the fucked up bits of coding due to hacks installed, so to code it you would most likely have to be very experienced at the very least.
 
True you would need to code in all of the buttons individually. This means that you would have to know what you are doing with the buttons. This would be best done using a HTML editor like Dreamweaver. I have some knowledge in how to work the program, but I would need to have some time relearning the higher technics.

My thoughts on the matter. I'd like to see a new banner, tbh. This one's been there a while, and tbh, it's not really an eye-catching one. I don't really like the idea of a new skin; as mentioned this simple color scheme is much easier on the eyes. But a banner might brighten things up a bit, and if you're able, add some more recent images of some more recent FFs.

I agree.

Personally I don't really like the idea of a change in the skin.

I think the current one is great and wouldn't like to get used to another one. Wouldn't feel like I was at home, even though I haven't been here that long.

I agree with a change in the banner though. The current banner is very nice but I would love to see a newer version with the more recent games, plus different images of the older favourited games.
 
You all realise they'd be interchangeable so that you wouldn't have to settle on one particular skin, right? If you do realise that then voting 'no' only denies the benefit for other users...which is a tad ignorant, imo. :wacky: If you didn't realise that...then you do now. :gmonster:

Anyway, despite whatever complications may ensue, we're looking into getting a new skin and I'd say we'll soldier on through it until it's sorted. It might be a bit of a headache for LG but, hey, it's his turn for one. :wacky:
 
Vayne is correct you can switch between the 2. Also each skin would be able to have a different banner, which would enable a very different look between the 2.
