them miners in chile

I can't imagine being trapped somewhere like that for that long O_O That was crazy. Glad they got out finally.

the mines being closed down.

not only do you get trapped in a mine, but when they eventually get you out, youve lost your job. they best be hopin' they get some compensation or something :ohoho:

They got $10,000 each I heard.

Plus lots of benefits and prizes from various companies and societies who fell in love with them.

I watched some of the live feed, and it was really interesting seeing them get rescued. Some of them are in for a lot though... Both their wives and their mistresses went to greet them, so there are a few domestic issues to iron out. Ouch. :D

I wonder how it feels being trapped in a dark, damp hole for 2 months...I bet some of them went insane. At least they were lowered card games and stuff to pass the time. I just saw this on the news this morning, and it's about time they got out.

The first 17 days without any contact from the outside world must have been hell.

The whole thing would have been horrible, obviously, but at least when they were discovered they were given food and entertainment, and I think they even had a screen set up to watch football. The Chileans above ground did a heck of a lot to really help the miners. Keeping them alive and rescuing them has been handled tremendously well.

They also had informed the miners that they weren't likely to get out until Christmas, so the lift of their morale when they were told that they were actually going to be rescued much sooner must have been incredible. It was psychologically much better to tell them to expect to wait longer but get them out sooner, than to tell them it would be soon but fail to do so until months later.

Quite an miracle actually that they're all out in one piece and largely okay. How painful do you think the first glimpses of sunlight would have been to their eyes, anyway?

They were made to wear sunglasses during their ascent, and some of them are still wearing them now. Their hospital rooms are all dark rooms with the light blocked, and they're being gradually reintroduced to light somehow.

^ They all seemed to be wearing some heavy duty sunglasses to protect from the glare of the sun.

EDIT: What Agor said :mokken:

Well that is good to hear. I heard about this and its good to see they are safe. Why is this in spam anyway?

Ah. Shows how much I've been paying attention to it then. :andry:

Ninja'd :monster: I agree.

Yeah, I was really surprised it was barely on the news where I am, I had to hear it secondhand from a relative. But then again, we hardly ever get news on my stations here for anything outside the U.S.--even if there are people dying in disasters in other countries, those types of stories often get preempted here by some Congressman passing gas or some celebrity getting divorced or whatnot. Because obviously, those things are so much more important :jtc:
