The voice

He doesn't mean to 'watch out' for the garaudian robot. Cloud, warned Clack (the confused Cloud who thinks he's Zack) to stay away from the mako in the reactor. It wasn't any normal reactor; it's a (*^)(^ huge one. Anything could happen if you tamper with it.
 
But it's not really bigger than the rest... and it is a normal reactor. Compared to the one in Nibelheim where they did experiements on people, it is a normal reactor.
 
No, actually, you could consider it to be a super reactor. It's huge; 1 of 8 that supplies a whole city. It supports a minor 'city' all by itself. It's quite a hefty reactor. Anything could happen. It is much larger than the reactor in Nible.
 
Wow Mitsuki, that does make a lot of sense! Now the more that I think about it, the more that I feel it most likely is the Real Cloud. Hmmm, I really need to play this game again.

I would really like to know who it was that was talkin to him. I would think that its possible that the planet or even Zack was helping him out. I doubt it was Sephiroth because why would the bad guy warn the good one?
 
But this voice doesn't just talk to him at the beginning of the game, it also talks to him in Junon, before the ShinRa parade.

Here's what the voice says to him at Junon:
"...That reminds me."

"You again?"
"...Who are you?"

"...You'll find out soon. ......But more importantly,
5 years ago..."

"5 Years ago... Nibelheim?"

"When you went to Mt. Nibel then, Tifa was your guide, right?"

"Yeah.... I was surprised."

"But where was Tifa other than that?"

"...I dunno."

"It was a great place for you two to see each other
again."

"...You're right."

"Why couldn't you see each other alone?"

"...I don't know. I can't remember clearly..."

"Why don't you try asking Tifa?"

"...Yeah."

"Then, get up!"

"Hey wake up. Wake up, Cloud!"

I'm not sure if that's the only other point in which this voice talks to Cloud. (I haven't played the game in ages), but I specifically remember this point.

The theory about the voice being Cloud's own conscience buried deep in his scrambled memories is a good one. Even in the above quote, all of the lines make sense as if being spoken by Cloud's own subconscious.

Particularly this part:
"You again?"
"...Who are you?"

"...You'll find out soon. ......"

Being as that Cloud really does find out who he is not too far down the line...

When the voice talks to him at the reactor, Cloud is actually remembering parts of his own memory. ''Watch out, This isn't just a reactor'' refers to the time of when he was at the Nibel reactor, Sephiroth may have said it to him back then and he could just be relaying what he had been told as he remembers it at the Midgar reactor. Thats what I came up with anyways, the whole voice thing stumped me for years too. >_<
 
I always though of it as Cloud's other memory pieces talking to him (the other Clouds Tifa sees in his mind). I can't see what else it could be, aside from Sephiroth/Jenova, but I always pictured the voice as benevolent, rather than trying to lead him astray.
 
i always found it as the piece that he cant control when he goes all shakky and begins to collapse. Im pretty sure thats wat it was tho. I guess you could call it his subconcious.
 
I think it IS Zack, since Cloud and Zack had this link. But I'm really not so sure.
 
I dont see really how it could be zack just because i didnt think zack could get into peoples heads :P but then again Aeris did so maybe it could be zack. Still sticking with his subconious though :D
 
It could be the orginal Clouds talking with the Cloud that took on the Zacks role.
This could also be why he feels pain and falls to his knees as he is tryin to repress his other self from being real as he has tryred to forget his past and be Zack.

Just playing throught he game again and in the hjoney bee inn he has an encounter with a ghostly version of himself and passes out beofre hearing the voices again. Also after the sector 7 plate falls he was a voice and replies ''Sephiroth?''
 
The voice is probably Sephiroth messing with his head, since he's got a grudge against Cloudy for messing up his whole grand plan and whatnot. Talking to Cloud in Junon, I feel it's reasonable to assume it's Sephiroth, since when Cloud asks Tifa about it and she avoids the question, it just makes him more curious about it. In the end all of this messing with Cloud's mind leads to a major melt down and results in Cloud giving the black materia to Sephiroth...
seems like a good revenge, and something Sephiroth would do.
 
My guess goes for either Zack or Sephiroth. But it could be cloud's subconcious. Truthfully I havent a clue.
