Felldoh watched the innkeeper leave, and was about to make after him when Vex replied.
"I do not know, I didn't even realize the sword was there when we came in. Though perhaps you can answer our question, what are you doing here and exactly what are you? I have never seen such a being as yourself in my travels."
Felldoh frowned, and jerked his bushy tail slightly. "What do you mean, what am I? I'm a squirrel! Don't they have those around here matey?" Sighing, Felldoh said, "I have no clue why I was here. The last thing I remember was that stoatface Badrang springing a trap on me. I was set on by a horde, and that's the last thing I remember."
Felldoh pawed the new sword lightly, tracing a claw over the inscription on the hilt. "I don't even remember feeling anything after...I killed a lot of them, probably a score, but that's the last thing I remember. I laughed and found myself lying on the dirt a ways off south."
"I came here looking for help, actually, and a guide or something. I need a matey who can show me around, or at least let me accompany them for a while, so I can get my bearings. Maybe I'm still in my world, and if I am, I'll be able to get back to Marshank after figuring out the lay of the land. If I'm not, then I'm in trouble. I don't know how to get back to my own world..."
Felldoh gritted his teeth. "I'm going to make Badrang pay for making my father and I slaves, and he'll pay tenfold after what he did to me." Thoughtfully, he stopped grinding and looked at the young woman. She seemed to be similar to the rest of the people around, but she seemed ill and injured.
Felldoh adopted a kinder, less angry expression, and crouched down. He opened his mouth to speak, and then stopped. Cocking his ears, he whirled around, his right paw instinctively drawing the sword on his waist, while he placed his left paw on the handle of the sword on his back. He bashed the door with his shoulder, breaking it down.
Outside the door was the same man he had disarmed a league or so south, and behind him in the hall were a score of soldiers dressed in the same attire that he was.
"There it is!" the man cried, pointing a shuddering finger at Felldoh. "That's the demon what stole my sword and my horse! Grab him!"
Felldoh turned his head to the side, looking at Vex. "I don't know why you're here, but I think you should leave if she's going to heal." Whirling his new sword and drawing the other, Felldoh bared his teeth at the soldiers. "I'll hold them off, get her out of here!"
As if reacting to what Felldoh said, the sword in his right hand glowed, and the inscription itself seemed to pulse. With a snarl, Felldoh launched himself into the body of soldiers pushing towards him.
