Where does the real motivation of playing a FF game come from......
Appealing Characters
Excellent Graphics
Series Continuation

We all have a reason for playing these games......mine comes from a need to explore a new world and bring evil people to justice also collecting items and rare weapons plays A big part in my motivation..........I mean would you rather go on an epic qeust to find a legendary weapon or order it online or ebay sounds like a no brainer to me?

But I digress, another thing I think plays a part is the current mood we are in
are you an early mourning person, a late night player, does anger come in to for us/you/them, is FF an escape for when the world kicks you in the nuts?

What drives us ?

Personally I play final fantasy for the story im a late night player. story and the characters personal story's are the drive for me, any little tidbit of background on a character drives me to play and find out more. Thats why my screen names SEPHIR0TH i identify with him i dont know my origins i was adopted and often im quick to anger even hatred because of that fact thats my reason... great topic!

I think a good part of the reason I play ANY video game is the escapist quality that they provide. Don't get me wrong, I would rather play a game with a great plot and good mechanics but it's how I get away from the day to day. I think on top of all of that, FF series is just good at delivering good gameplay and a great story, Rock on squaresoft/square enix!!!!

I second what Talon said, it's the escapism aspect for me too. It's a great way to forget your problems and to enjoy an amazing story that carries on for many hours. The same reasons people like to read books I guess. Video games are fun to play and a good way to pass the time, especially the FF series. not only for their story but for everything. The gameplay, battles, atmosphere, etc. It's great to become involved in a fantasy world.

A solid storyline and character development for me.

To be honest, the best games have both of those, MGS4, Uncharted etc are among the best games I've played and they both have those two factors, which is why I love Final Fantasy games, because as an RPG genre they need to focus on those two things the most, if they start lacking in one then it brings the whole game (ie FFXII). So yeah, the storyline and character development is my reason for playing FF titles. :monster:

Solid Gameplay.

Without it, a game is nothing more than a story that's a pain in the ass to listen to. Comic Relief is also nice too, regardless of how many flavors it comes in.

I also like a good difficulty progression in most games, which I suppose is why I like to play Warcraft. I however, have no patience for those who hinder that progression, which can sometimes lead to unnecessary outbursts.

But it's kind of hard to lightly say "dude, you're a prick! wtf man, you were just talking about how we need better gear to drop hardmodes and then you go and pull this shit on your alt? fuck you man, fuck you".

I am going to be honest :(

The reason I first got into the Final Fantasy series 11 years ago was because of how good the graphics to FFVII where.

I remember seeing over and over again the commericals and how blown away I was when I saw the video's. Eventually I went out and purchased a PSX just for that game. I loved watching all of the videos but I hated the gameplay and didn't really understand to much of the story.

11 years later I have beaten all the main series FF games and the reason I play them now is for story and music. Everything else is icing on the cake (BTW, I LOVE turn based battles now)

the graphics. its nice to see a company take their time and make a beautiful game. Gameplay, i lik how they change it for every game, i find it refreshing.
all the stories are different and feel large.

the difficulty is never too easy nor too hard. so casual gamers lik me can actually get throught the game in a week or 2

the tons of side quests are always nice.

Usually i do play to get away from the world also. no stress about school or sports, jus me and the game

A way to escape my dull boring life. And no Im not joking. Its a form of release, escapism or whatever you want to call it. Its the sense of a new face, a new adventure and new locations that give me a buzz whenever I play a new game, be it Final Fantasy or another RPG.

Yep, it's a release from life troubles! Great time waster too especially if you don't have much else going on at that time - also, the games are lengthy and worth your money, as there's so much to do in each game. Well, most games.

A good storyline and great character development. In FFVII's case, also a good amount of spinoff :8F:

The game need to have a story that constantly gets better or at least stays good till the end. It can't start up great and then die out or vice versa. I have to have a reason to go on playing the game. It can't just be me playing to play.

The characters need to be interesting in some way. FF1 had people who had no personality at all, which totally put me off forever. The later games had people who were unique and had different reasons to fight and had an interesting backstory behind them. They weren't monotone and actually were their own person, which gives the game life and feeling.

Well I got into video games in general from my family. My dad and bros would play and whatnot and i'd watch them. Any game has to be appealing to me or I most likely won't play it. I deff have to have a game that i'm interested in and there's something new/ challeging in some shape or form. It has to have a good plot and storyline to it so that there's some point in it. I like to see characters that have their own personalities and whatnot.... and least decent where I can put up with them >.>

I actually require a lot of motivation to play a FF game. The main reasons for this is because firstly they take a while to finish and secondly I can get very sick of the gameplay/battle systems. The battles can be fun when an amount of strategy goes into it like with some of the tougher boss fights, I find that random encounters can get extremely boring and repetitive.

The main reason why I play FF games is for the storyline and characters. These two things can justify the average 40 odd hour experience of game play that I am not the biggest fan of. Like I said before, I love the battle system when it comes to battles which require an in depth strategy but random battles just bore me.

I generally can't play FF games one after the other, I like to space them out a bit so I have time to reflect on the game I just beat. Also I prefer to play FF games during the holidays so there are fewer distractions/commitments. I also prefer to play at night because firstly there are generally less distractions and secondly the mood is better in the dark.

I think its the characters, they usually make the storyline because of their character personality and goals, your always intrested in the characters for any final fantasy game.well you would depend more on the storyline in the old days cuz all the final fantasy before 10 was not computer graphical and you cant experience the characters in a certain way.Home consoles are best for rpg!!!!

In general I play games to kind of escape my reality. It's usually why I like RPGs - or rather RPGs with it's own story and characters. To lose myself in another world and another person's story and such.

FF games have been excellent quality in this endeavor. I've been enthralled in the story and characters of all the FF games I've beaten thus far.
