Why do you think that the DMW keeps freezing up and Zack keeps losing his memory? Is it Him going delirious with the pain or him dieing. Or is it Him getting worn down by the battle.

I think it was supposed to show him slowly dying, and his memories of each person slowly fading away as he dies. I'm not 100% sure, since I haven't played CC for ages, but I thought it was a really effective way to end the game, especially with all the faces slowly turning black, and then him left with only Aerith's memory. Really powerful stuff D=

I agree with mark, the DMW is his brain wave whatsists innit, so as he's dying it's clearly affecting his mind too, and the last thing he remembers is Aerith, I found it all very heart wrenching, coz Im a sap like that, but I think it was probably the most effective thing the DMW ever did in the whole game :wacky:

Yeah, Mark is right. Zack was slowly dying and the memories of the people he met were fading one by one. It was kinda sad seeing that, tbqh, and i almost cried. The last person he saw in the DMV is aerith, who was probably the most important to him at the time.

i figured it was him remembering everything, like they say b4 u die ur whole life will flash befor ur eyes so i thaught it was something like that...

That's a possibility. Though, they probably didn't call it 'Digital Mind Wave' for nothing. So, I'll have to support the above conjecture by Stevie Nicks by quoting it again.

Aerith was probably the last since she probably held the most importance among the people in the DMW.

On a more personal note, I thought this was one of the best ways I've encountered to end a game. It slowly built up the emotions until the final part where Zack finally dies. If any, I would say the creators did a magnificent job in building the mood at this last part.

Yea. The last part was brilliantly made. If only it was on PS3 (i have an xbox so no luck there). Then itll be an epic game without restrictions. i know ppl who give up before reaching this scene due to the gameplay, which is a pity.

Oh yes, I remember that scene. The one where Zack becomes slower and slower and the DMW faces vanish leaving only Aerith.

That's extremely moving, because the player is aware of the fact that Zack wanted to see Aerith one more time- which was his whole purpose of trying to reach Midgar because they haven't seen each other for about 4 years.

I never expected something like that when I was playing. It was a very powerful message to the player; Zack was dying but he was not giving up hope.

P.S. 100 posts! Party! Although this thread isn't really ideal because of the topic.......

Oh yes - on an emotional level it gutted me, and on an intellectual level I was awed by the way the designers had used the DMW to portray his dying. All those people had become his (my) friends - I had literally relied on them to help me win battles and stay alive. I'm sure I'm not the only one who cried out 'Come on, HELP ME!" during missions. And they did. And then, at the end, no one could help Zack (me); he (I) was all alone, as one by one they faded. Actually my stomach still turns over every time I think about it. (and I'm not someone who is easily moved).

Its him losing his memory and dying. The DMW is like his brainwaves.

ps this is a huge spoiler to those who havent played the game and want to

It's probably not of him losing his memories but of him having a brief flashback of all the important people in his life, saving the most important for last, Aerith.
It's one of the most powerful endings in any game that I've seen. It made a few tears escape from my eyes the first time I'd seen it. All the drama and the awesome soundtrack just does these things lol

The part where Aerith says "I'll see you again" or something close to those lines made me want to cry heh
Another line was when he asked us If he have become a hero. Man, that was something. If Zack were real and could hear me, I'd say he is a hero, a hero far more better than Cloud lol

wait2!! I wanna ask something. one we finished the game, how come we can get DMW 100% for all characters? I got 90% for Cloud when the others are completed (100%). anyone knows about this?

Sorry I can't help with that one.
But my opinion is that it was to portray the slow death of Zack and his love for Aerith. Obviously his love is strong.

I sometimes wonder if Zack would have lived had he not tried to return to Aerith. I mean if I were in his position I would not be going to Midgar, of all places. But he did because more than anything he wanted to see Aerith again. And the DMW was just... it made me want to cry. Like it or hate it, the DMW was MADE for that final scene where all the memories play and then in the end it becomes stuck on Aerith.

It's because you didn't get all of the flashback DMW scenes with Cloud. If you got 90% then that probably means you have one more Cloud scene that you need to get on the DMW. :)

I kinda thought of it in a combination of ways that were both mentioned in the previous posts. First, the DMW is linked to his brainwaves. I thought of everything being recalled right in the last seconds of life, then slowly fading away as his body and mind were dying. And yes, I agree that this was one of the best endings I've seen in a long time, and one of the best ways of showing it emotionally. It was a great job by the creators/programmers.
