I haven't seen this anywhere so please forgive me if there's already something like this.

But out of curiosity, who here has beaten the first Blitzball tournament you had to play, the one that was required when you first arrive in Luca? The Luca Goers are a huge pain to defeat, and heard most don't even bother to try and win, so I was just curious who's actally done so.

I never bet them on my first time palying it but when i replayed iit i beat them once outta shear luck i dont like blitzball at the start only when i have at last two decent players will i play it
 
I pretty much always beat them, its easy if you know what to do VERY EASY infact.

The Goer's are well overrated, they rarely place in the top three at the end of the seaons. Its the Al-bheds and Guados that are cunts at times.
 
hehehe this last time i played ffx i tried and tried until i finally won against the luca goers, i think i tried like 20 times, and i realized the weak point in the luca team: you can always break through the first player to the left (or down in the map) the one with the black hair. 4-2 was the score
 
I've played that first game through on 3 different occasions. My first time ever playing I lost big time. The second time I played on a friend's save file and won easily since Tidus has the Jecht Shot this time. My third time though, I lost by 1. I'm 1-2 so far, with my 4th attempt coming up soon.
 
I've beaten them in season and cups but not on first game. I think in the most recent game that I did I was only one point off but I've never beaten them in that game.
 
i did it but it will be pretty easy if you learn the jecht shot on the boat
and when wakka comes in use his poison shot
 
yes, the jecht shot should mae it easy for you, but what really helped me was wakka's venom shot once he was free I passed to him ( you gotta swim around as a forward to get wakka free) and kick ass!!
 
my beiigest challenge was, the al bhed psyches because of their goalie.
then I used sleep shot on him all the time , and then they ended his contract and I bought him, so now I am invincible. my goal record is 10-0 against the ronso fangs.

That's basically what I had to do. That and I saved right before the tournament and kept restarting till I won xD Took some practice too.

Actually, what's weird is in my game I probably wouldn't have won if Wakka's poison shot hadn't landed at the last minute o.o Jecht Shot did a lot, but no one else besides Tidus would even touch their goalie. Wakka's poison shot managed to land at the last minute leaving the goalie open.

I agree though, later on the Luca Goers weren't very hard. It was always the Guado team who gave me the trouble.

Yeah those Al bhed Phyches are a bitch and half to beat at a low level.
There goalie has a better catch stat than your two top shooter's shoot stat combined.

That strength sphere is a life saver that early in the game. Tidus isn't such a weakling after you use it on him, and his attacks rival Auron's at that point.

Oh, and I did beat the Goers the first time around too. The Jehct Shot is good in the second half, but in the first half you have to rely on Letty getting the Goers to follow him to leave the patj to the goal open for Tidus. Just get in the goalie's face and shoot.

I lost a lot, but I kept restarting the game until I managed to defeat them. I'll tell you this...it was really hard especially it's all new and it takes time to get used to. :) But well, I'm just like that. I have to get the best out of the game, you know?
 
On your first time, or period? I think a lot of people here have beaten them, at least on mutiple tries.
 
i always beat them its real easy the tactics i use are get the guy with highest pass witht he ball and make him go to the far left side to the defnder with balck hair but try to get as many defenders to follow the player before that then attempt to pass to tidus (it doesnt always work) then get as close to LG goalie and use sphere or jecht shot
 
I got it on my third attempt. Won 3-1
Everyone says so much about how vital it is to have Jecht Shot for Tidus, but both times I used it in that match, the keeper saved it. It took a normal shot from him to score. And the other two were scored by Wakka. I think at the end of the day, that game all comes down to a lot of luck
 
I lost that first game on a couple of play-throughs, but that was very early on in my gaming life. Also, I never liked Blitzball the first few times around anyway, so I decided to give it a shot a few times later, and found that I quite enjoyed competing. XD

The strength sphere was appreciated though. Helped fuel my Wakka. <3
