First he runs away whenever he feels like it in Sabin's scenario, then I hired him after the Zozo mission to go to the opera house, and he leaves in the middle of the performance! You can't get back to the rest of your party after the opera house scenario, so I had to do the Magitek Factory with only 3 characters, which was no joke. On top of that
Celes leaves the party after the lab scene
and I only had Locke and Cyan to fight the boss on the way out!
Did you utilise Shadow at all during the World of Balance? It seems he's only really useful in the World of Ruin, as he doesn't just ditch you whenever he pleases after you pay him 3000 gil(!!) to hire him. I realise the stupidity of being angry with a bunch of pixels on a screen, but I am really angry with him at the moment!
:raye:

Shadow will join your party later and stop running-away if you do the right thing later on. If you don't theeeeenn... well let's just say he won't trouble you no more.

I did utilize him, but I mostly ran with him till there is a point where he can't run.
Sabin's senerio, when you get on the ghost train he wont run anymore, for the second part once you are on the airplane he wont run anymore (at least he wont for me, should confirm this before you try it.)

Really Shadow's only use is throwing stuff if you save him in the world of ruin so I don't know why I tried to use him so much...maybe cause I use to think he was sooo cool, being all ninja and stuff....

I never really bothered with Shadow. Only time I ever found him useful was when I was in that point of the game where my inventory was spammed full of all sorts of weapons and I didn't have the need to go selling a ton of stuff so I could buy potions and what have you. Other than that, my party mostly consisted of Sabin, Edgar, Celes and Cyan. :hmmm:

Shadow only ever ran away when I got to the waterfall in Sabin's scenario never before for some reason, got lucky I guess. As for the opera area and magiteck factory, I always had three others and never left space to use him, so I wasn't screwed in escaping on the mine cart boss. But yeah once you get to another point in the game and make the right decision, you may be tempted to leave but don't. Then once you are in the world of ruin and save him, once you recruit him again, he will never leave. I just liked getting him for the end dungeon so I had nice full parties of four people each.

Keep regular save files so that if you do use him and he bails, just reload from the last saved place. It's annoying but he has his uses. Not essential but he is a great damage dealer by throwing Shurikens and Interceptor has helped me out of a bad spot on more than a few occasions.

I used Shadow every chance I could. I knew he would eventually come back as a main character in my party so I leveled him up when I had teh chance and bought his weapons as available. While his personality was not all that appealing, as you learn more of his history and back-story, you start to understand why he acts the way he does.

For a ninja, his to$$ ability was one I used that came in handy at many times. He was definitely my favorite character in the game and while it bugged me when he left early on, it was always great to see him back in my party after a long absense.
