"Super-Gran" foils armed robbery

Witnesses who saw a pensioner foil a gang of would-be robbers in central England have been speaking of her bravery.
The woman, who is thought to be over 70 years old, ran to a jeweller’s shop in Northampton when she saw it being raided by six men in crash-helmets wielding sledgehammers.
The handbag heroine told a local newspaper she was angry that they thought they could get away with such a robbery in broad daylight.
Jeweller Luke Allebone, who was inside the shop during the attack, said he was stunned by her courage. “I don’t know if she knew much about it but it’s a very dangerous thing,” he said. “It was six young men out there with hammers intent on doing damage and stealing. To stop something like that takes great courage.”
Sarah-Jane Brown was in a neighbouring shop: “We were terrified,” she said. “We locked the door, we hid under the desk, we were really scared. And then we looked outside and God love her, she was running down the road with her handbag in the air, banging them on the back of the helmet with the handbag.”
She has been dubbed ‘Supergran’ by the British press, and just like her comic-book crimefighting counterparts she is keen to keep her identity a secret.
Police arrested four suspects.

I'm just shocked 6 one 1 :gasp:......and the one is an old women armed with a handbag only....:hmph: fucking idiots they deserve it.
 
I saw this on the news this afternoon. It's fucking awesome. :wacky:

The footage shows her running towards them and smacking them with her handbag. I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time! She says she's no hero and had to do something because everyone was just standing around in shock. Even one of the guys trying to escape on his motorbike fell off. :rofl:
 
My question though is, unless this is a re-enactment video, why was some asshole just standing there filming the whole thing? :confused: Not to mention all the other people driving and walking around the area. I mean did everyone just think they were renovating the building or something? Why was this elderly person the only one to notice and care enough to do anything?
 
That has to go down as one of the shittest robberies in history. :wacky:

Seriously, if an OAP was running at you with a handbag and there is 6 of you, with sledgehammers and helmets, why run? She's more likely to get tired before doing any real damage. Good on her and everything, but if that was done by more serious criminals then she'd be having serious problems.
 
Well not many people would be low enough to fight an old lady, so I'm not really surprised it turned out the way it did. It's still a pretty cool story though.

Going by the steadiness of the (first) camera, I'm guessing it was from a security camera or something. In the second shot, some of the crooks have already been apprehended so it makes no difference if a someone is filming it or not.
