[Suggestion] Most Valuable Poster

You may not be able to see who made which signature at the start, there aren't that many different people who enter. You can easily identify who made what based on their style. Biased voting happens in SOTW all the time.

Do you have proof that there is biased voting? and what do you propose? Tighter deadlines? A bundle of rules to make it harder to actually create a piece of work?

Its easy to sling around accusations, but every SoTW is the same, its hard to tell who made a piece even if you "know" there style it could be someone elses as the GFX'ers tend to change stylisation from piece to piece, so without conclusive evidence this just sounds like a rant tbh.

Some peoples work is easy to spot - even I can hazard a guess and be right most times. It's really not that hard at all

Not commenting on any bias or other, because I really can't be arsed, whether this is or not, I couldn't give a crap

edit* as for the topic at hand, I ust don't think we need this, it's a nice idea, but we have moderators for this shit, there's too many people floating around with coloured usernames, we really don't need more

Agreeing with the Kelly/Jesse like posts. A forum like ours might not benefit from such an inclusion. It might become a popularity contest where sometimes a person is chosen, despite the content and depth of their posts. The forum is also a tad lacking in members for this to be successful. The forum in question that used this had over 1 million members, as the OP stated. Our forum only has a fraction of that, an even greater fraction that is actually active.

A 3 sentence rant? I also never called for anything to be changed to SOTW.

I check the SOTW threads every week and I can be quite sure who has made each entry. People don't actually change their style all that much.

Also, no I don't have proof because once the polls are closed, they don't show you who voted for which entry. Before they are closed you can and I have seen patterns in the past. I could of course be wrong.

Can you honestly say that you've never, in your entire on this site or any other, voted for anything other than quality? I generally don't bother with graphics. Perhaps it's not my place to speak, but there's no efficient way of fixing this.

For what it's worth, and this is not aimed at anyone in particular, just an observation on my part, but it's always seemed to me that people throw around the accusation of popularity contest when A) they didn't win, B) the entry/work/person they voted for/wanted to win didn't win, C) they didn't like the parameters of the competition/system, D) Person X that they don't necessarily care for didn't win, E) they need an excuse not to participate and have no other good reason other than not wanting to put forth the effort.

And I will say that it is kind of a slap in the face to people to say that the only reason they won a SotW, or were promoted to Mod, or whatever the case may be, is because of their supposed popularity among a group of people. It undermines the amount of work they put into whatever it was they were doing for that particular contest/competition.

I think Mvp would be too much like regular moderators. Just for popularity like everyone said. Not that It will not work... MVP's would just ruin it

Nah i can see where graye is coming from on sotw. Biased voting does happen and im pretty sure every GFXr here knows it. Its not a case though of people asking others to vote for them. I dont believe that at all, but certain people do seem to have voting consistencies and its obvious :lew:
I dont think its that big of deal cuz 9/10 the best entry does win but there have been occasions. And it can kinda tick you off, but nothing can be done so best just to be proud of your efforts.
And yeah most folks here can look at the sotw poll and go he made that and she made that etc. It comes with seeing eachothers work for so long. Its not hard at all to tell.
If i was aware that id won a majority of votes though people voting for me cuz they like me then id just feel pissed off. By doing that its taking the piss out of everyone who works hard and out of yourself.
ahem

love the idea dave. I say yes......
And after reading what it is your actually proposing i say no. I dont really see any benefit tbh.

We don't need a system to tell us whose posts are worth reading. I'm sure everyone has different ideas of who is more 'valuable' so to speak.

If this system were implemented I can see one of two things happening. It would either end up as a popularity contest which would make it meaningless because the actual quality of an MVP's posts wouldn't matter. Or it would become too open and more and more people would become MVP's which would make it meaningless anyway.

I'd like to think that people have the maturity to vote for a sig based on it's own merit. You said that people have their own styles, do you think it's possible that some styles just appeal to certain people.
