This is going to be SOOOOOOO friggin' awesome!

March 30, 2008 - Square Enix announced today what fans have wanted and expected since Square Enix premiered their PS3 tech demo of Final Fantasy VII back in 2005. A remake of the most popular RPG to ever be made is officially in the works, and is due for a November 2009 release.
Shocked by the fan response of their tech demo, Square Enix executives have made mention many a time over the past couple of years that no plans for a remake of Final Fantasy VII had even been considered when they made the tech demo, and they were shocked that people had jumped to such conclusions given their previous tech demos for new gaming technologies involving older Final Fantasy titles.
Square Enix Senior Vice President, Michihiro Sasaki, commented, "The response was unexpected by everyone at the company. There was nothing like it when we premiered our Final Fantasy VIII tech demo of the PS2, and even the expectations built from our Final Fantasy VI tech demo of the Nintendo 64 were that the next installment would be on that system, which it wasn't. A remake had never even been thought of before when it came to our tech demos, but the response of fans worldwide forced us to reconsider."
Square Enix admits to have been working on the remake since August of 2007, and that it has been made easier for them as they are using the same graphics engine they are using for the two PS3 Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII titles. This brought up the question of a different battle system, but when asked about it, Square Enix refused to comment further saying, "We'll be releasing more information at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo."
