Spyro!

Come an discuss everyones favourite little purple dragon

I just thought I might as well discuss this with everyone as Spyro is one of my favourite games bar final fantasy obviously

i used to play this many years ago, it was soo cool. sadly i could never complete it :( it was kinda like Croc about the lil crocodile

Looooooooooooved the PSone games by Insomniac. I actually rebought them on eBay a few months ago, since I'd sold them long ago. I wish Insomniac would buy the series back and save it.

Second one is my favorite...haha, I beat Ripto's final stage (where you're both flying around) thanks to a glitch :wacky:

Um, I was chasing him while he was riding that bird with the metal ass and was just trying to dodge his shots....we kept making laps around the arena and somehow he flew outside the invisible wall and got stuck in a continuous loop. He couldn't attack me or anything, so I just shot him in the face every time he passed by :wacky:

If it wasn't for that glitch I woulda died, I only had one hit left.

I played it before it was ok. I could never beat the game though lol. But for the most part it was cool. I quit it along time ago.

Spyre was my second game on PS1. I pretty much liked fire breathing and ramming into enemies killing them instantly.
After I played the first one I bought the third one, skipping the second one. Although the game was bugged 'cause when I beated the big bat boss, it instantly begun a new game. :(

Spyro was awesome, first game I got, though mine was a bit buggy, 6 times outta 10 after I beat the first boss it'd freeze then start again

I didn't get into Spyro until the 3 game, which I completed 100%. Before then I had just stuck to the hidden demos found in Crash Bandicoot games :wacky:. I've got the first one now but haven't gotten very far, and the second one which I've nearly gotten to the end. I've also pretty much finished the 4th game. My Brother has that 'Dragons Tale' or whatever its called and a few Spyro games for the GBA but I haven't gotten around to playing them.

I think its a good seires (at least the older PS games). I like to take anger out on all the little Sheep and Chickens (or anything that turns into butterflies for Sparks) by ramming them mwhaha.

I have Spyro: Year of the Dragon. It was my first PS1 game I had.

I still have it and when I feel like just playing something fun but don't need to worry about the storyline and such, I just pop it in.

Getting treasure gems were nice; using a simple fire attack on enemies 5 times your size to destroy them was fun; gliding through the air was a nice perk too ;)

And ramming helpless animals to increase your little Dragonfly was fun too; poor sheep had no clue, hehehehe...

And the baby dragons that miraculously hatched as soon as you find them were so cute >__<

Omg! Spyro pwns. I wish i could still play them! 1,2 and 3 pwned.

But the newer versions suck flopey donkey dick. (The ps2 versions.

i really miss this game, i might have to go and purchase my self a new copy...any one have any ideas where i could find a copy

I have the urge to play the PS1 versions of Spyro now! Problem is they're in my attic.
But I agree that Spyro for the PS1 was far superior to that of the PS2 version and they're making a new Spyro game called 'The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon ' :gasp:

Visually it looks amazingly good but hopefully they gameplay/story is equally as impressive.

Meh I don't like him but I had to finish the game since I started it, I had it on my GBA, but I didn't like it much though

I love Spyro. His games I've used to play hours and days on end. They've kind of nostalgic to me when I see clips and hear music of it. LFO seems to have a connection to it too... xP

I remember in the first Spyro, my sister and I had such a hard time finding the last dragons. I also loved skating and minigames in Year of the Dragon.

The only problem I have is that I'm missing ONE gem in Year of the Dragon. I used to have 2 missing gems, and one of them was under the green acid water in the Lost Fleet. But with that I did get to go into the special place with all the raining gems.

I gave up on Spyro at Enter the Dragonfly. It was way too buggy for me to play. It freezes at the save screen going home portal if you collect too much gems. Spyro Season of Ice was bad, too. I just hated the controls, and it didn't have the same Spyro magic. I wish it'd have stayed as a PlayStation trilogy.

I loved the Spyro games for the PS1, I have all 3 of them xD I used to play them for hours on end, because they were just so much fun to play ^^

I haven't played any of the PS2 ones though, I heard they sucked. I played one or two for the GBA but...meh. They were pretty crappy.

i love Spyro! after i finally beat the first one (which took me forever) i bought the next two right away. after i beat those two i bought the next one for Ps2, i was disappointed...it really sucked.

I loved the old Spyro games. :) I managed to finish Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon, but could never reach Gnasty Gnork on the first to hit him for the FINAL time. :( So I was, and still am, one hit away from completing the game. T_T Ah, it sucks.

I really enjoyed the PS1 games though; I used to think they were the best games in the world. :P My friend Lucy and I worked together to get through them, although I probably took over...

The GBA games - I played Season of Ice and Season of Flame - were okay, but poorly made in some repspects. I finished SoF BUT the platforms were hard to gage when you wanted to glide from one to another. One appeared to be below you and then you found out it was actually far above. :/ SoI was harder, and I didn't finish that...

I also bought a GC for Spyro...something of the Dragonfly. >_< The one where Ripto's back. :/ Anyway, I defeated Ripto once and then gave up. The graphics were pretty good, but the gameplay wasn't as interesting. I also became a Zelda fan at this time - as my silver GC came with Wind Waker and OoT - so I suppose I grew out of Spyro.

I tried playing Year of the Dragon on my PSP last year but sadly didn't enjoy it as much. :( Maybe 'cause I did literally everything there is to do on 2 and 3.

I would like to know what they've done though! :O Spyro is no longer cute! They've redesigned him and now he's a very ugly dragon indeed. >_< Part of me is curious - I want to know what the new gen of Spyro is like since I grew up playing the earlier games - but I also fear I will not enjoy them, just like I didn't enjoy the GBA ones much nor the one I played on the GC...

I actually preferred the graphics before! >_< The new ones might look more swish, and realistic, but the old ones had such charm!

The music was catchy too. :P I used to make Spyro dance on Ice in the... 2nd? world on Year of the Dragon.

Ooh, I wanna play it again now! ^_^

So who has played these side-by-side games? They were among the first games I played growing up. Any thoughts on these two series? Hard bosses? Which of the games you liked best within each series?

I thought the boss levels in the first Spyro were a bit difficult (keep in mind, I haven't played either in six years) Crash Bandicoot was only hard when one tried the time trials. I like the levels in CB: Warped when Coco rode the little tiger cub. And in the second installment where Crash rode Polar. :P
