Before starting this discussion I would like to point out that FF7 and Metal Gear Solid are two of my favorite games of all-time...so do not think I am knocking either of the writers of these games...but keep in mind Final Fantasy 7 was released prior to the release of Metal Gear Solid...

In any case...has anyone ever noticed the similarities to a lot of the occurences in the two games....? Some of this goes into Advent Children as well, but whatever...eat it.

1. FF7- Geostigma affecting people due to the Lifestream coming in close proximity to the people after Sephiroth and Jenova's infected cells went into the Lifestream.

MGS- FoxDie affecting the soldiers that were created through the Les Enfants Terribles program.

2. FF7- You go on the 66th floor elevator after a Boss Battle and get captured by Rude and Tseng and put in a cell.

MGS- You walk towards the door after the Boss Battle with Sniper Fox and get captured and put in a cell.

3. FF7- Sephiroth sweeps through the Shinra building waxing ass and eventually killing President Shinra before releasing your party from the cell.

MGS- Gray Fox, another sword-wielding man comes through Shadow Moses waxing ass as well.

4. FF7- The 59 floor climb at the Shinra Building.

MGS- The "X" floor climb to the roof of the research facility.

5. FF7- Cloud is supposedly a "super soldier" along with Sephiroth, created from the cells of Jenova.

MGS- Solid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Liquid Snake are three of many "super soldiers" created by the Les Enfants Terribles program to clone Big Boss.

Then just in general due to the fact that Sephiroth and Cloud have so much in common due to the cells that were injected into Cloud from Jenova. This can then be compared to Solid Snake and Liquid Snake's similarities due to the fact theat they are brothers...clones of Big Boss...

Anyway...I thought it was interesting when I was playing FF7 tonight again. Remember that I'm just pointing out interesting things and these games still run the world.

You can find similarities like this in other games too. It's not only those two.Did you find these similarities after playing both games only once?Or after playing them multiple times?

I've been playing both these games a couple times a year for 9-10 years. I'm just new to this forum site, so I figured I would point out something that I noticed over the course of those years. I understand that these are just similarities and they can happen in a lot of other games....but these are the two most celebrated PSX games of all-time so it was interesting to me.

wow that is interesting

Mod Edit: Please try to put more effort into your post. Say 'why/how' you think it's interesting. Thank you.

The second, third and fourth aren't really similarities that stand out. You're imprisoned n plenty of games. And Sephiroth didn't actually kill the president - Jenova did....or Sephiroth's will.

Yes there are some similarities, however the same can be said for any game that focuses on a resistance against a large establishment. You normfally end up infiltrating some big ass building, getting caught, escape. Then some big secret/tiwst is unvield. It just happens in the case of MGS and FFVII that it is based on clones.

But yes.. there are silimilarities.

1. FF7- Geostigma affecting people due to the Lifestream coming in close proximity to the people after Sephiroth and Jenova's infected cells went into the Lifestream.

MGS- FoxDie affecting the soldiers that were created through the Les Enfants Terribles program.
Sorry I disagree with you here, I would describe Foxdie as more of a biological assassin, in that it only targets specific people. Where as Geostigma is just a disease. So I can't really see a similarity between the two.

2. FF7- You go on the 66th floor elevator after a Boss Battle and get captured by Rude and Tseng and put in a cell.

MGS- You walk towards the door after the Boss Battle with Sniper Fox and get captured and put in a cell.
This isn't particularly significant as several games besides FF7 and MGS involve being captured.
3. FF7- Sephiroth sweeps through the Shinra building waxing ass and eventually killing President Shinra before releasing your party from the cell.

MGS- Gray Fox, another sword-wielding man comes through Shadow Moses waxing ass as well.
Well there's that and also the fact that in Metal Gear Solid
Gray Fox releases you from your cell if you are unable to escape by hiding under the bed or by using the ketchup
I can definitely see the similarity although it is more than likely just pure coincidence.

4. FF7- The 59 floor climb at the Shinra Building.

MGS- The "X" floor climb to the roof of the research facility.
Yeah I can see the similarity here, thankfully FF7's floor climb isn't half as tedious as MGS's, I mean the tower climb in MGS wasn't that bad but, if they were random battles.......

This concept is fairly common in games/film, by which I mean the idea of the main character being unique or having some kind of special power.

Then just in general due to the fact that Sephiroth and Cloud have so much in common due to the cells that were injected into Cloud from Jenova. This can then be compared to Solid Snake and Liquid Snake's similarities due to the fact theat they are brothers...clones of Big Boss...
This similarity can also be applied to a large number of films/games if you think of the 'Evil Twin' idea.

Anyway...I thought it was interesting when I was playing FF7 tonight again. Remember that I'm just pointing out interesting things and these games still run the world.

It was quite interesting reading your post not because it showed me the similarities between FF7 and MGS but more so because it showed me some of the similarities shared between various games, movies, books ect.. but in any case good work!

Geostigma specifically affected those with Jenova cells in them, didn't it? I'd say that's pretty specific. :P

lol did it :wacky:? Anyway what I mean is that Foxdie was specifically engineered to kill specific people, so it can't attack someone if it's not programmed to attack that person, that doesn't really fall into the same category as Geostigma or diseases in general in my opinion.

Did it? Does that mean that Denzel, alot of the kids and other random people had all had Jenova cells in them as well?

I thought the Geostigma was caused by traces of Jenova being mixed in with the lifestream, and people being exposed to it when the lifestream stopped Meteor, or something like that.. And then it spread. I'm not sure. But it definately spread to more people than just the specimens of Hojo's research with Jenova cells.

Pretty intresting.Still most of the games have similarities in them. But yeah if you think about these games release dates and time they were made.Surely MGS took something from FF VII.But what good cinematic game didnt in that time.FF VII was revolution,so was MGS.FF VII started making the feel that you are living in game,MGS made it even more feel like you live in game.

^Yes, actually.

They did all have Jenova cells, that was the point of their participation in the reunion, and why they were inflicted with the geostigma, the stigma was supposed to be their calling card to the reunion.
