Hey Guys!

Been offered a PSP Go for £40!
It's in new condition and has been well looked after.

Been reading some great stuff and some well horrible things about the GO.

I don't want a Vita as I don't think it will get used a great deal.
Already got FF7,8,9 on my PS3 so I would of course move them to the GO.

Some advice would be great!

thanks!

Can you cope with downloadable-only games? And the fact that some of the PSP's library won't even be on the store, while the ones that are tend to be at full price still (I think...)? If so, I suppose £40 might be a fair enough asking price, as there are a number of games worth playing on it. Except for Crisis Core. It is amazing how overrated that game is.

Personally I think the Go was a terrible idea and its sales reflected that.

Near as I can tell, the Go was just an attempt to get people used to the idea of leaving behind their UMDs before the Vita came out and got rid of them for good. For the price you listed, I'd say it's worth it just to have a way to play Dissidia 012, but a regular PSP would be preferable due to the Go's controls feeling somewhat cramped. It's definitely still usable though. The biggest bummer will be that the digital market doesn't have used games, so you'll still have to pay full price for outdated software, but if you're cool with that and think you'd make use of the device, go for it!

I'd check the prices on ebay, if they are going for more than 40 quid, buy it and stick it on there.

I'm fairly certain the Persona games are all digital downloads, although they cost significantly more online than they do in UMD format :hmmm:

But if you're thinking about Go, get a Vita instead. The only reason to buy a PSP over a Vita is because not all the UMDs are available digitally; therefore, there is no reason whatsoever to get a Go over a Vita, because the Go can't play UMDs. The Vita is a better long-term investment: the library will expand as time passes, and you can download the PSP games available on the store and play them just as well; better for some in fact, since the Vita has dual-analogue...and a nicer screen. The Go was never a particularly good idea; it lacks the vast majority of the games that make the PSP actually worth buying.

Get a normal PSP, or get a PS Vita.

i've never heard anything great about the PSP Go (except that it has a MOTHERFUCKING ANALOG STICK) and actually scoffed at it when it was revealed as a PSP2.

but honestly, the psp is one of the worst investments I've ever made. The only games I still play on it are Disgaea 2 (because the text box in D1 was terrible), Final Fantasy Tactics, Persona 3, and God Eater Burst. The only games I've ever bought for it were Crisis Core and Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology.

3/4 games I still play were all console ports, and I barely ever play GEB unless my psp is hooked up to the computer and I'm playing it off RMJ w/ a PS2 controller.

If you really need a portable fix just for that sole purpose, I guess... But only if you like turn based strategy games.

Persona 3 is definitely available on the PS Store, 'cause I downloaded it a while back (when it was on offer).
As for the main question...I can only copy what other people have said. The fact that the Go can't play UMDs really makes it a console to avoid. You're limiting the amount of games you can buy with the Go, which is a reason why even the oldest PSP model is better.

Hope this helps :)

There are a lot of variables that you have to take in account for before purchasing a PSP GO:

1. Are you willing to sacrifice a physical copy for a digital copy?

2. Games are typically more expensive on the PS Store as opposed to the physical media. I've seen some games on the store for $30 or more whereas you can buy the physical copy for half the price (or even less)

3. Storage data could become a burden. While quite a few of the games are 500MB or less. You'll more than likely encounter a game thats rather large (Tactics Ogre was something like 1.2GB when I installed it to my Vita recently).

4. Do you have small or large hands? Me personally its uncomfortable playing a PSP GO simply because I have large hands. Fatigue sets in at a faster rate for me and I could only play the handheld for maybe 35 minutes tops before cramps start to become annoying.

5. The digital games catalogue is rather small as of this date. I know they're slowly uploading the games to the store (at a snail's pace it seems..), but something you desperatly want may not be available because you're limited to digital games.

For me personally the PSP GO is just a waste of money. I'm assuming your deal is decent (I'm not good with US currency to Quid conversions). If none of the above really bothers you then yes - go ahead with your purchase. How much use you'll get out if it is entirely up to you. If I were you I would just invest in a PSP 3000. You'll pay more (more than likely), but in the end its the better deal.

OR

Go against what you said and get a PS Vita. The game library for it is limited at the moment (Dynasty Warriors: Next, Disgaea 3, Uncharted, Ultimate MvC3 were all fun), but with the upcoming PS1 compatibility this summer, the available Vita games and what the PS Store has for the digial PSP games would ultimatly be the better buy in the end. There's some quality titles coming for the unit in the near future that will be well worth the upgrade.
