[RP] FFIX: The Return of the Mist

Cid ordered his soldiers and guards to continue firing down the main street in order to cover the escape of the Alexandrian citizens.

He knew they would have to get out of here as soon as possible because he was only going to stay as long as it took for Zidane and Garnet to reach his ship, and then they would fly to Lindblum, and escape the current carnage, he just hoped that not only Zidane and Garnet would be ok, but the citizens he had been attempting to protect for the past few minutes.

Alexandra jumped down from a building, watching people crowd inside the airship. Sheathing her daggers, she slowly walked forward, watching two people letting people in. One individual was irate but it seems the other one, a knight figure was calming him down.

"Wait a minute, that knight looks familiar."
Alexandria thought as she walked closer to see who it was. Eventually, she shuffled herself onto the line to see if he is really who Alexandra thinks he is. Upon coming closer to the person, she remembered who he was. "Blank? Is that you?"

Brannt stood near the front of the airship, surveying the destruction Plumes of smoke began to rise fromt he square and they were slowly going deeper. He pulled out a small book and began writing.

'It would seem that the Burmecians have attacked Alexandria. Before the reign of Queen Garnet, I would have expected this. However now the two nations have been on good terms and it is unexpected that they would take up arms, especially when Burmecia has been trying to rebuild itself.

The lack of mental ability of the attackers suggests they are either mentally damaged or being controlled by something. The size of the onslaught proves mental damage unlikely and so I am forced to conclude that something is controlling them.

Unfortunately I seem to have been swept up in this as well. I would look for an opportunity to escape but I believe that I am already in too deep. Still, the front lines of this would probably be the best place for me to observe this.'

He clapped the book shut and replaced it in its pocket wondering just what could be controlling the Burmecians.

"Blank? Is that you?" came from the crowd comming towards the ship, the voice was faintly familiar he looked up and saw an old Friend of his, it was Alexandra, an Ex-Tantalus member "what are you doin' here" he shouted down as he removed his helmet and extended his hand out to her, "come on, get on" he added, a small smirk creeping onto his face.

"What are you doin' here? Come on, get on!"

Alexandra grabbed Blank's hand and climbed aboard the airship. Alexandra quipped back "Five Years since we last met and now you're trying to play hero? A lot has changed after all." She returned the smirk on her face before entering the airship itself, working to calm the panicking people within. Unfortunately, she had no experience in crowd control, thus making her venture difficult.

OOC: Sorry for short post.

LOSS

In the furthest reaches of her mind, Freya did hear the call to retreat. Somewhere near that part of her brain, the area that dealt with tactics and maneuvers knew that it would be suicidal to try to reach Fratley now. There were simply too many of her kin, and they seemed to be hell bent on tearing Alexandria apart, piece by oh-so-recently-rebuilt piece. That same tactical part of her consciousness also registered that Alexandria was quickly becoming a lost cause. The city was becoming overrun. The command to fall back to the airships made sense.

But logic was not a comrade of Freya's right now. She braced herself, preparing to leap to Fratley's side and force him to answer for what was happening here.

ESCAPE

She can't be serious.

It was suicide. Luca could see that. Hell, anyone with half a brain cell could see that. But there she was, bracing like the dragoon knight she was. Luca couldn't allow it. Creeping up behind her, he took the rubber end of his mallet and whacked Freya on the back of the head.

"Sorry, Freya. I know you're a hero and all, but I'd like you to live today so I can see some heroism first-hand tomorrow." Looking around grimly, Luca hefted the Burmecian onto his shoulders and made his way toward the airships. "We're certainly going to need it."

Luca spent all of his energy carrying Freya to the nearest airship. He had barely taken a step on board when he unceremoniously dumped Freya on the deck and collapsed beside her, gasping for breath. Between deep inhalations, he managed to wheeze out, "Let's.... get out.... of here."

The subtlety of Alexandria's gentle breeze was being drowned utterly by the various explosions incurring within the heart of the city, removing, for Zephon, a significant portion of the ambiance. Although an indirect victory for him, the after taste seemed a little... bitter; left much to be desired indeed. And although Dahaka would likely have the Burmecians in hand soon enough, there was a finishing touch Zephon wished upon this damned Kingdom.

His walk turned into a brisk one, marking his intent. Flaring his fingers intermittently as though he were attempting to spark something alight, he managed just that - his fingertips glowed a warm red, like fire was burning within them, dying to get out as it intensified. He promptly turned heel, facing the rising smog with a horrid grimace, elegantly swathing his arms outward as if he were about to embrace. The fire broke through his skin, emblazoning his hands and trickling up his forearms, halting at the elbows.

"I may not summon your Eidolons, Gaia, but I may try in earnest. A petty contortion and corruption of grace, to be sure... but alas... I call for you, my Leviathan!"

A monument immortalising one of Alexandria's youngest Generals was obliterated as a magical Leviathan of flame erupted from the ground beneath it, twisting and coiling around the courtyard 'til its sudden stop before Zephon - gazing into his eyes, and through silent acknowledgement it knew its purpose. Leviathan hurtled itself violently towards the castle proper, passing through entire buildings and leaving nothing but carnage in its wake. Its piercing shrieks could likely be heard leagues from here.

"Please accept my apologies for this late coronation gift, dear royalty."

As Blank continued helping people onto the ship, he noticed Alexandra had entered the ship, he wasn't sure what she was doing in there, and he could only guess that she was trying to calm the people inside, he glanced over at the Captain and was about to speak before he heard a large shrill Shriek he launched himself towards the edge of the Airship and saw a large Flame leviathan charging towards the Castle, leaving nothing but destruction in it's wake, his eye began to well with tears as he pulled his helmet from his head and threw it to the floor "no" he announced as tears rolled down his face.

"Captain, get us out of here" he announced, the pain and anguish apparent in his voice, "just get us out of here" he added before picking up his helmet and heading into the ship.

Garnet

Almost as soon as the fighting had begun out in the streets Garnet had been bundled into the castle by a groups of Alexandrian guards and almost immediately lost sight of everyone she had been standing with, even Zidane...

Once they were inside the castle and the doors had been shut in order to hold off the Burmecians for every available second she had demanded she be left alone so she could change out of her formal clothes before heading up to Cid's airship, putting on instead her usual clothes, and grabbing a couple of jewelled pendants, which she put round her neck before heading upwards, towards the part of the castle where Cid's airship would be.

As she stepped out on to the balcony, she finally saw exactly what was happening to her beloved city. The Burmecian-things were swarming through the streets and attacking people where they stood. She was looking out over her city, and al she could see was it being destroyed by these violnet monsters. She stumbed over to the ship and collapsed by the railing facing outwards, her head in her hand, when she heard a sound and looked up.

Heading towards the castle from the other end of the city was a Leviathan, but not the normal Leviathan who used the power of tidal waves to defeat his enemies, this one seemed different, but Garnet knew it could only be one thing, a summon. She only had one chance to prevent the city from being utterly destroyed.

Her hand flew to her chest and she wrapped her gloved fingers around a blood red gem. "Aid us in our time of need" she thought before standing up and tretchin her arms upwards to the sky. Darks clouds appeared and began to swirl, directly above the large metal hull of and wings of the ship. A gap in the clouds appeared, and a bright light shone through it and then the clouds retreated leaving only a patch of bright lightin the sky.

A few second passed before a dark shape began to descend from the light. Once the top of the shape had emerged from the light, the sky returned to normal before the shape stretched itself out, with a monstrous tail, and huge set of wings unravelling to reveal the shapes true self, an enourmous dragon, the stuff of legend, Bahamut himself.

Garnet looked deep into the eyes of the massive dragon and simply thought "Please, I can't lose Alexandria, not after what happened last time, and what happened to my mother, you were able to take all this away from me, please, please! help me defend it this time". The dragon turned to face down the street and face the danger heading towards them, Garnet fell back to the floor and watched in hope.

Cid

All Cid could do was watch as te scene unfolded before him. He knew how much the city meant to Garnet, which was why he had done everything he could to hold off the Burmecians earlier. Now all he could do was watch along with Garnet whilst the two summons battled with each other.

He ordered the pilot to move the ship around so that it was no longer in line with attack of the enemy's summon, and told him to keep the ship out of harms way, but not to get to far away, so that should anything happen Garnet would be able to know immediately, and not find out from a messeger once they were in Lindblum...

Beatrix blasted another Burmecian out of the way with a sizzling jolt of electricity. Eyes fixed firmly in front of her, she looked at Blank and cried "Get the Princess and run. I'll proceed with the evacuation." With that, she continued to run for the airships. She was so close now. She could almost smell the smoke from the engines as she continued her sprint for freedom, trying to herd as many civilians in her direction as possible.

A sudden explosion stopped her in her tracks. She turned around to see a huge construct of fire and carnage raging through Alexandria, obliterating buildings and life alike as it did so. Was this Garnet's work? Or Eiko's? But it couldn't be. It felt too chaotic and wild to be of such a gentle source. It was dangerous.

"Keep moving!" yelled Beatrix. "Toward the airships! Go!"

The little girl, Dahaka, arrived in the centre of Alexandria. A fountain, statues, and several large buildings stood in her way. As its masters Leviathan of fire passed her, she stopped for a moment to allow it passage, before skipping on to the fountain and jumping over it, flying higher than even a Burmecian could to land on the water spitting statues, before raising her right hand into the air. Closing her eyes as a red aura surrounded her, she began to chant an ancient spell.

"Fire of the abyss, rise and conquer. Form and destroy."

The aura growing brighter and brighter as she raised a second hand into the air, closing it around the first, she finished the spell with a single word.

"Detonate."

A pulse of fire erupted from her petite form, engulfing the city center, destroying statues, obliterating Alexandrians and Burmecians alke. It didn't matter whose ashes and blackened bones littered the ground. It just mattered that they were dead.
