Anyone else think so?

Quite frankly I owned the PS3 ever since launch date and it's really disappointing compared to the PS2.

Seriously, the only thing the PS3 has on the PS2 is basically just better graphics, online play and a lot more of good FPS's games.

Overall the PS2 still has a much better game library overall than that of the PS3 both in quality and diversity.

Not to mention a lot of this gens sequel's kinda suck compared to last gen imo.

Like:

FFX and FFXII > FFXIII - XIII was really disappointing.
MGS2 and 3 > MGS4 - They had better gameplay and lot of MGS4 a big movie, what with all the cutscenes and all.
DMC1 and 3 > DMC4 - DMC4 is just bleh compared to 1 and 3.
GTA Vice and San Andreas > GTA4 - Much funner games and less linear than GTA4 which quite frankly sucked imo.
RE4 > RE5 - RE4 had the better story and gameplay than RE5's which seemed a bit contrived imo.
PS2 Ratchett games > PS3 Ratchett games - The PS2 games are much funnier and had the better gameplay imo than any of thier PS3 sequels.

Quite frankly this gen is disappointing overall compared to last gen.

but you know that's what happens when you sell a console for 600 USD for a few years when your competitors are going as far as half that price. Personally the only thing I wanted a PS3 for was FFXIII and Disgaea 3 and they were both really horrible games :neomon:
 
lol saying the last gen was better ofcourse it was..thats perception. Everything new and original is usually awesome untill its getting dull and or un inspired...most of the time the first ones are the best..

I cant go back to that pixelated shit era/gen......It was great at the time but i moved on..I love my PS3...

That's acutally the Wii ;) Prior was the NES

But I can't comment on the PS3 because I do not own one. I will say that my favorite generation of gaming was the 16 bit era. I never got bored of the system and I could play many of the games over and over again. With every gen after that, I would get to the "when in the next system coming out phase" and I rarely ever played any of those games more than once. The only game I have played more than one time was Dragon Age...

One thing that did however bring the PS2 down for me was the awful voice acting that most games had. I am an auditory person so an innapporpriate voice, or just over the top, underacting, or just plain bad acting can annoy me. I'd rather read text. Voice acting has improved greatly IMO this gen.

I loved my PS2 so much, then my dog broke it and I had to buy a PS3...I made sure to buy a PS3 that could play PS2 games as well. (so much money ;3;)

The PS2 had a lot of RPGs, Platformers and just such a huge variety of games that I really love. The FPS were still quite new and original and fun.
The PS3 has good games too, don't get me wrong, but they're just not the same quality. FPS have been done to death now and thats all the PS3 really focuses on unfortunately.
I love my PS3 a lot but nothing will beat my PS2!
 
ps2 was by far my favourite console. Though a gaming console really, is only as good as its games and the ps2 for me had way better games and much much more of them aswell. The ps3s great for online multiplayers etc but game titles lack single player.

so ya ps2>ps3

and dereks right it is the biggest selling system of all time
 
Not to sound like a broken record, but I agree that the PS2 has probably been the most successful system overall. Not only has it achieved in the sense of hard sales numbers, but it has one of the broadest libraries of games that has ever existed.

I think some of the greatest games ever made were for the PS2, and that's not a claim that the PS3 can match so easily. I certainly have no problem with the PS3 (particularly since mine can play PS2 games) but it's no PS2...not yet, at least.
 
All the old consoles were better for me. The latest generation of consoles has brought about a succession of impressive looking games, but the best stories were told on previous consoles in a more accessible form. In fact, there isn't a single current generation game that I go back and play again and again. I'm still playing Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Mario Kart & LOZ: Ocarina of Time even now. Only one PS2 game in there, admittedly, but one more PS2 game than PS3.
 
I'm pretty sure you are just saying that because you haven't played all the awesome games on PS3 yet. just the new IPs like Uncharted,Infamous,Modnation Racers,Little Big Planet make the PS3 better then then PS2. The only thing i could agree with you is the lack of good AAA RPG's since the PS2 was a monster when it comes to RPGs. I don't think there will ever be a consola with better RPGs then the PS2 ever, but still i like the PS3 a lot more.;)
 
TBH I don't own a PS3 so I can't compare the general gameplay, graphics, etc., however I do agree that PS2 has a lot better games. I have yet to see a PS3 game come out that I feel would be worth me buying the whole system for; whereas there were a bunch on PS2 where I would've done so. If they could combine the amazing game content of PS2 with the graphics etc. of PS3 though, that would be epic :gasp:

The best PS2 has least two or two three good games in every genre, something, the PS3 can't really brag about imo.

Outta the games you have mentioned I've played the Uncharted games and LBA and they are really great games imo.

A main problem I have with this gen is that most single player modes on most games that are not RPG's only tend to last 10 to 12 hours or so to complete.

Coupled that games are also more expensive this gen - I feel like I am getting ripped off. I dunno why games feel shorter this gen in general. It seems to me developers have gotten lazy this gen imo.


Whereas PS2 games in general are much cheaper and even non PS2 RPG's, you can get upto about to 20-25 hours on them general before completing them. I remember it taking me around odd 30 odd hours to complete each Jak, Ratchett and Sly games when I played them last.
 
being unfamiliar with the capabilities of the PS3 is apparently an excuse. but it is not like this lazy approach to development is exclusive to the PS3.

If you ever got true ending in Drakengard[PS2], that's the feeling I get about most games that are out on the shelves in this generation of gaming. If you haven't, you should play it and at least fail at the last mission then watch it on youtube.

Biggest kick in the balls I've ever received playing a videogame.
 
As an all-round genre player I love my PS3 far more than I ever did with my PS2. I know lack of RPGs is mentioned but in my opinion it's a slowly dying genre, certainly in the JRPG area anyway - although WRPGs are going strong. Square-Enix kind of proved with Final Fantasy XIII that there's a sure shift between from your standard JRPG to westernisation. PS2 has more AAA titles but I'd still take the lesser AAA titles of the PS3 any day.
