With the recent announcement of Final Fantasy VII being redone with all the bells and whistles of the newest video game technology, Tetsuya Nomura was asked at a recent expo in Los Angeles, if he was interested in remaking Final Fantasy VIII and IX. His response was that instead of remaking the newer ones, he would like to focus on remaking Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI with completely updated graphics and sounds like the new Final Fantasy VII was being remade into.

This has spurred me onto looking up more information on remakes of my favorite game - FF6, and I happen to find few petitions. With talks already happening about these remakes, what could come at a better time than to send Square Enix petitions letting them know that all their Final Fantasy VI fans are in full support of this happening??? I have waited many years thinking this could never happen, and although nothing is set in stone yet, now is the time to make a push for Square Enix to release the long lost games that we could only dream of being remade into newer games. Please take a few minutes to sign and share these petitions!

I am firmly in the camp that believes in the pointlessness of full remakes like this.

FFVI is perfectly fine the way it is. Sure, a small piece of nostalgia could be heavily governing what I say and think, but it's a game that exudes much of its charm with its initially unassuming 16-bit 2D format and the fact that they managed to tell a captivating tale with it. Compared to FFVII perhaps (where the fact that FFVII's graphics are horribly dated and is the only good reason why a remake could be justified, as much as I begrudgingly have to say that as someone who never wanted it remade), FFVI is considerably more timeless.

At best, maybe a handheld remake in a similar vein to FFIII and FFIV, but there's no need for a full AAA budget and a console release. I'd rather that investment be hoisted on a brand new project, even if the end result isn't any good.

I understand your mindset and I share a similar view that it is such a timeless game, that it almost can't get old. But I grew up on that game, and I'm guessing you did as well? There are plenty of new people who (and I don't agree with this) will critically judge this game based on it's old look and pixelated sprites. I'm skeptical of what a new release of this game would be like and I wouldn't be surprised if they totally effed it up, but I think it deserves a standing chance for the new generations who didn't grow up on it - And I would definitely give it a try as well. I understand you're a purist, but whats 5 minutes to sign a petition?

As someone who got into the FF series starting with 8, I am on the fence with this. While I think a hd remake might be nice to clean some things up maybe sprue up the sprites some I think that's all that should be done with it. Giving it a fullblown remake and doing it in 3d would make the urge to explore some of the environments to much, and let's face it they would make it so you can't explore it. Six also has a large and diverse cast but does a excellent job of giving most of the cast development, I fear with them doing a full remake they would screw up more then half of the cast. I'd say leave it as it is and only do an HD remake like with FFX/X-2 if it's even possible with the 16 bit 2d graphics. Otherwise let this game rest where it is as a classic timeless memory they should not be messed with in any means.

What could possibly be lost by remaking this? Are they going to take the original release away from us all? I'm not trying to convince you purists that a remake will be better or worse. I'm just asking you to sign it. In the time that you take to write your response on why it's not a good idea to you, you could do somebody else a huge favor by signing it. It's never going to change how great and timeless the original release was. It will probably always be my favorite, but really, what do you have to lose by signing it?

Okay first off i'm not a purist, so watch where your going here. Also I gave ample reasons as to why I personally would not like to see a remake done and yet you are still saying I should support it by signing. I don't like the idea so why should I sign it, by me signing it is saying I support the idea of wanting them to screw it all to hell. I got an idea here I think we should bring back public hangings(going to an extreme here) you disagree with it yet i'm gonna bagger you to sign a petition to ok it anyways even though you don't want to sign. This is what you are asking us to do, we gave reasons why we don't want to sign or support this idea but you are still begging us to sign.

No, but it would take up resources and staff (even if the bulk of the work would likely be outsourced to another studio) that would be better off invested in something new. Hardly a very "purist" position to take if I prefer something fresh and experimental than an unnecessary full remake of a game that is already as near perfect as it is, surely?

what do you have to lose by signing it?

Well, trying to persistently badger people into signing a petition is rarely ever a good or effective strategy. It kind of reeks of slight desperation and that puts people off.

There's also the fact that there is a very remote chance that such a petition would be seen by Square Enix, let alone influence them, especially on a platform like Change.com, where it's usually the biggest social issues of the day that find the most resonance with people and get the attention.

He didn't necessarily said that he was most interested in making 6, and 5 first, just that he noticed that those were the ones that skipped. But if he knew what he was talkinga bout, FF5 and 6 were remade twice if he believes 1 and 2 were remade. FF5 and FF6 were remade for Final Fantasy ANthology collection for ps1. The second was the "advanced" series where we had FF5 advance and FF6 advance with their own new additions.

scratch that, we had a third remade done in iOS/Android. Which regretably, looked horrid.

If we're talking about a full-fledge remake the level of ff7, i dont think it should. it would be a waste of time, and just massive changes.

FF5 and 6 are fun, but i would prefer the ff3/4 level of changes.

I already signed this petition a month or two ago not that I expect it to be heard like Fleur said its stuff like Petitions on Cecil the lion that tends to get noticed on Change.org. Of course I would love to see it remade the final boss battle in 3d would be amazing and I've seen a amateur tech demo of Terra walking through a 3d Narshe it was pretty cool. At the end of the day I don't trust Nomura these days without messers Sakaguchi and Uemetsu to keep him in check he just dilutes everything FF related these days without wise heads looking over his shoulder. Character design is his strength not overall game design. A 3d remake like FF IV that looked less cartoony on PS VITA would be cool and I don't see the point in doing any more 2d remakes of FF VI with updated sprites. In short I'd only want a remake with a lot of the original staff involved not the newer staff.

Trust me, I believe FFVI was one of the best games of the franchise by far. It would of probably been better than VII if it wasn't for the amount of content that they used in VI. Also the adult content and FMVs that they spent in VII most likely trumps it as well.

Though sometimes there is the need to not work on multiple projects at the same time. While if it were my number one favorite I would most likely feel different. Though I've been waiting for FFVII remake since it came out basically (96/97). The reason is because while Tera and Locke and all the other supporting characters made an impact, I don't think the remake would be that easy to remake due to still using SNES graphics from way back. Granted there were ports to other systems, but mostly the mechanics and everything else stayed the same.

I felt fulfilled when I played FFVI, while for FFVII, I was left with questions and needing more. Granted those Square Soft jerks could of given me more like 2 years later, but instead they went ahead with other projects like FFVIII and FFIX (both pretty decent games). So you can see how others are like.. "wait what happened after the end of FFVII to transition to Advent Children."

I figure if they poke around with Tera's story enough I'll be pissed and have to have a FFVI-3 eventually to seal all the gaps. It's hard to touch an original that was executed so well. If they bring in new writers, I guarantee you will not like it.

Just look how many FFXIII spin offs there were, they worked because they were relevant. I think they would take a cost incursion, due to it would most likely only be loyal long time fans who loved FFVI that pick up and play it. I put it this way, while most games/animes become popular here in the states after a while, they don't often become popular in Japan and due to it they lose quite a bit of money. So balancing multiple projects right now would basically halt other game releases.

That's just me.. so while I love FFVI, I don't want to make SE more ADD than they already are.
