Over The Top FF Fans.

Now I'm not saying all FF Fans are like this, but does it ever annoy you when you come across an FF Fan who believes they KNOW everything about a certain FF game, they are that close minded that they believe this happens, that happens, ___ should be with ____, ___ shouldn't be with ____. It's almost as though they believe they're ultimately right?

I know there aren't any OTT FF fans here, which is a really positive thing - but I have seen quite a few in other places on the internet. You're absolutely right. There are definitely people who are like what you described.

I've come across some people believing they are absolutely omniscient with everything to do with FFVII. Of course, you can see where this is getting at. You have people making radical theories about this and that in FFVII - what happens to X, what happens in Y, what *will* happen if there is another sequel or remake.

And what's worse - when other people take apart their ideas, they become absolutely ferocious. They adamantly defend their theories (because they took up so much time and effort thinking them up) and attack people who disagree with them.

We don't actually have a Cloud/Tifa/Aerith Love triangle thread no more because of crazy people like that, it got so over the top the threads were locked - remade- locked again til we gave up and decided to just ban the discussion about it all together

Know-it-alls in general just bug me though. Even things that you feel are left open for interpretation, they still come along and insist their theory is right, then continue to go into massive detail about WHY they are right and you are wrong.... xD

@Swift: That is good then, I get rather nervous when there are OTT fans, it sort of gives me the wrong impression of some FF fans. I know, it's ridiculous, it's as though they've thought too deeply about their theory that they actually believe it to a full extent.

@Quina: Oh my, I know that the FFVII triangle is quite a tough topic. I have my OTP in my opinion, but I'm not biased towards anyone's pairings, I've had friends who believe that so n so should be together, and I've nodded and actually took in their opinions. I know, it's crazy. Btw, I love your Quina Icon, for some reason to me it looks like Quina is eating Smarties. xD

It's probably not new, but sometimes I see many fanatical FFVII coming up with crazy theories and whatnot. And the fact that many simply believed FFVII was the best without regarding what everyone else thought gave me a bad impression about FFVII for a long time. Personally, I'm a IX fan (and will take that to my grave).

Today, though, I don't mind FFVII at all. But people need to cool down with the theories. The creators will reveal what happens, and I hope someday they make a FFVII remake that doesn't leave enough room and questions for yet another prequel/sequel. That's one reason people came up with crazy theories and just plain disagree with everyone else.

My biggest problem is with the people who expand this to the actual games and not just content. If one goes by what certain crazy fans say, Final Fantasy VII is a cure to Cancer and Diabetes, as well as the solution to world hunger and the secret to world peace, and if you even say that the other games exist, they'll go berserk; saying other games have advantages over VII is practically a death wish. I've never much cared for VII, but normally I still respect it and its fans; However, whenever I meet these guys it always ends with me feeling that FFVII is worse than Superman for the N64 or ET for the Atari 2600.

I may be one of those fans I can get carzy about FFVII (yes, carzy ) I try to tone it down, but I don't know what happens I may act a little wierd when it comes to that game. I will warn you now. But I don't go too far with the game like so others on some sites. But there aren't many OOT fans here, thank goodness. Some forums do, and that really takes away from the fun of foruming

People have been rather over the top, for example I've just joined here, it's been my second day and to be honest I haven't felt exactly welcome. :/ I've spoke about my opinions on why I like and dislike certain FF's but I just get dismissed for it, which is rather sad because it's giving me a bad impression of FF fans.

When I came here I realised how much of a not know it all person I am compared to other people here, and I always thought I was pretty good. xD
OTT FF reaaaaaaaallly piss me off. I've only ever come across maybe two or three but I can't stand people like that. It's the kind of thing that really puts me off playing said game for a while, but luckily here there don't seem to be any that I've come across.

Well, im fairly new here and I can honestly say I haven't seen many OTP FF fans here. There was that one guy nah, but i have yet to encounter one of those buggers so im good xD

I've been here less then a month and so far I haven't seen any "over the top" fans here.... yet, but I've definitely come across them in other forums. Ironically I tend to find the most "over the top" fans in youtube comments, because sometimes I'll link a soundtrack from one of the games usually in my forum signatures and I'll read through some of the comments and overall it's pretty cool, nothing harmful, hardcore fans gettin together to listen to some music and commenting but then there's those few that kinda make me......

Yeah... anyways, I do think some of them can get carried especially when it comes to the VII remake, I've made a lot arguments in the past against why and how it couldn't be done. However the over the top fans of final fantasy seem kinda normal to me compared to some of the other over the top fans of other series, like star wars. If you don't know what I mean, just look up supershadow.com I mean jesus... obsession to the max. The person who runs it goes as far as to claim that their "close friends" with george lucas and claims that lucas gives em "permission" to post all kinds of "future scripts" of star wars movies and indiana jones movies. Which is all horseshit. George himself has made many public statements before claiming he was in no way associated with supershadow but it doesn't stop supershadow from creating a massive amount of controversy. The site's still as active as it was several years ago and still is as controversial as ever. Well anyways I'm very sorry to get off topic, but I really do understand your point.

Honestly I can't say I have ever encountered anyone like that. However I can see how people like that can be a pain. From what you've described it pretty much sounds like they're fans of a series who believe their opinions should be shoved down everyone's throat like they know everything when they really don't. Not everyone is like that, thankfully.

I don't know what you mean by "dismissed", though. Did we ignore you or did we actually come off a little strong? Personally, I hate being ignored, which is the reason why sometimes I don't settle in one forum. I may know what you're talking about if that's the case.

No, it wasn't that people ignored me, well for one I didn't feel very welcome here considering I'm new, but that's a different topic, but I did feel that some people did come off a little strong, what I meant by dismissed was I felt when I gave my opinions, others didn't give reasoning to it.

Pretty much because you may have hit the head right on the nail. I agree with your points, but if I had just posted that I would have to deal with the Admins. You see, there's a rule about making an effort with posting here, and posting too little on one post (except on spam topics) is not acceptable.

Sorry if you have to hear it here, but welcome to the forum. When it comes to topics like these, never expect everyone to be nice. There's always bad in what's good, and vice versa. Every forum will always have its share of people who come off a little strong.

I know exactly that. I haven't once just posted too little, and if I did it was mistake, I don't mean to. Thanks. That's true, I accept that, it just would of been a more impressioning if someone more welcoming had spoke to me first, but obviously by chance that didn't happen, unfortunately.

I used to welcome people days after I joined. But just days after doing so it became a little tedious. And some of them don't even stay.

You got to understand lots of new people join every day. Welcoming every single one of them can become a chore. We're not the best welcoming bunch, but we do what we can.

Try posting all over the forum. Though there could be people that might disagree with you, if we know you better we can be quite friendly. Please don't let this experience make you believe all FF fans are like this.
