[OOC] In This Life

Hey guys, just a heads up--got news today that there's a good chance I might be moving around the end of this month, and I have a lot to do in preparation of that, so it might take me a little while between posts :gonk: I'll do my best to keep up, I already have part of my next one written, but if it takes me a few days in between each one or something then that's why. Sorry :(, but we've been trying to get this place since last April and it's really important that I get all the stuff ready for it that I have to do (hoping it doesn't fall through this time). Thanks!

Also, if it's really hindering what your characters are trying to do at any point, just let me know if you need to G-mod or anything, and if I don't think I can get a post in then I'll let you know and you can certainly do that if needed :dave:

nah, its all good. ts only me and anathema. im sure we can wait on you. plus, that give me some time to get back to Australia so ii can post more often.

And so, I get some slack, bwahahahahahah :awesome:

Don't worry, and take your time. This role play got off on a slow pace, so it never was a problem of speed more than a problem of quality.

Yeah, I was planning on it. I'm a bit stumped as to what to do when I get there tbh, because Mingzhu would be worried about getting back to her unit leader, but at the same time is curious about her new acquaintances, and then the potential is there for meeting everyone else soon as well. I'll just throw in a quick one sometime today though to get us there so I don't hold everyone up any longer.

What i had in mind was that my group will interact with us three as we walk through the gate. Right after the interaction, i buess we can split. But do expect Kos Mos to begin to follow you (hint at imprinting)

Okay then. I guess I'll just lead the way there, and then you guys can take it from there. I'm just going to say that I led you guys to the city if that's alright, to save time, but I won't really do much when I get there.

Argh.

My deepest apologies. I've been really MIA around her for quite a while, and I probably will be with this role play for the time being. I'll try to get a post up as soon as possible, but for now, I'm going to prioritize the role plays that I've severely neglected, particularly SFR.

If there's anyone interested joining in, as Gamingway (Kate) had mentioned previously, just put the character sheet up here, and I'll look over it soon.

I'm posting to say that Kate has brought my attention to this RP, and I am interested in joining it.

I've looked through the main posts in the relevant threads to learn about it, but I haven't read every post. Therefore forgive me if my question has been answered many times by different people.

I was wondering what kind of role vampires have in this RP?
Do they have the strong urges to drain blood / life energy to keep them looking youthful? Would they need to deal with this urge if they were to avoid being feared / rejected by humans? Are they rejected / feared by humans, or are they accepted amongst them?

Finally - would they have been human once, and died and was transformed into a vampire / undead? Or would they have been born as such in this RP?

I was just wondering about this, as I wouldn't mind being a vampire, but need to know where I would stand if I was to be one.

Okay. I typed a long response... And realized it was horribly messed up. For the sake of coherence, I'm going to split up my response into distinct categories.

Okay, round two. As I type midway into the second category, I figure I may as well just answer directly to your questions. The additional details you could check below those specific answers.

What kind of role vampires have in this RP?

Now, the role of Vampires in this role play, really, is to add variety. Honestly speaking, the focus of the role play would be life in Byakko. I thought it would be dull to simply have humans moving around, living their dignified lives, so I added Vampires to show another side to life in Byakko.

That is isn't just a bed of roses, even if the city is well run by the Emperor.

Do they have the strong urges to drain blood / life energy to keep them looking youthful?

No, they do not have any urge to drink blood. More details just right below under Vampire Characteristics.

Would they need to deal with this urge if they were to avoid being feared / rejected by humans?

Well, as from the answer above... No, there's no urge. Well, unless they're addicted to what blood makes them feel. Most blood addicts are scorned by humans - and also feared, since most blood addicts would likely turn into criminals.

So, uh, yes, if the urge is an addiction. They have to deal with it.

Are they rejected / feared by humans, or are they accepted amongst them?

A law of Byakko as instituted by some Emperor before the current one, declared Vampires as one of the accepted races of the city. Therefore, legally speaking, they are 'accepted'.

However, humans generally regard them lightly. They don't 'reject' them outright, nor do they 'fear' them.

Generally, they live in harmony, with humans fearing only the criminal Vampires at night. In a sense, they are 'accepted' amongst humans...

Well, more information under Vampires and the Society.

Would they have been human once, and died and was transformed into a vampire / undead? Or would they have been born as such in this RP?

Well, the answer's right below. But here's a brief answer.

They would have been born as such.

Vampire Characteristics

They are not immortal. While they have a biological inclination to be perceived as 'beautiful', or 'handsome', their physical features do not last forever. They grow old like ordinary humans, and ultimately die like ordinary humans.

They do drink blood - any sort of blood, except artificial blood. This is not a mandatory form of sustenance, and it does not provide any special effects that other food products do not. However, what blood have, to Vampires, that is especially tempting is the extreme pleasure that the Vampire gains from drinking blood.

Scientifically speaking, when a Vampire drinks blood, he is actually drinking the hormones in the blood. These hormones induce pleasure that is comparable, or possibly better, as some Vampires would claim, than sex.

Having said that last bit, yes, Vampires do have sex. I mean, not just for pleasure, but for the proliferation. They are not immortal. And they cannot turn humans into Vampires.

It might be interesting to note though, that in both Humans' and Vampires' religious lore, Vampires were actually Humans. How they became Vampires is the key difference in the two races' lore.

Human Version

The group of humans sold their souls to the Magical Deity, who in return, granted them immense magical powers. The loss of their souls made it impossible for them to stand in sunlight.

Vampire Version

The group of humans, called the Elders, was favored by a Magical Deity. The Deity subsequently grants them immense magical powers in return for their devotion. However, the humans were jealous of their powers, and fought them. As the Elders were strong advocates of peace, they sought a resolution, and ultimately decided to live in the darkness, so they could co-exist with humans. Years of living in the darkness altered their genetic characteristics such that they were unable to stand in sunlight.

Well. Both versions, I'll tell you, are faulty. But they are beliefs held by the respective races, so your character would be thinking that way, if they are especially religious.

Moving back to the point. They pro-create, not by turning people into Vampires, but by having sex, and giving birth in typical human fashion. And despite their heightened physical capabilities at night, childbirth is still a horrifically painful affair.

~

And one important detail I never mentioned in the Information Thread (Tsk, that's what happens when you rush so much in one shot).

Vampires are cold-blooded. Feel free to ask more about the race, lest I missed out information that should have been there.

Well, now on to Culture, which would give more answers.

Vampires and the Society

Vampires are, although most humans would think otherwise, probably the most ostracized race in Byakko. Due to their physical natures, they cannot go out in sunlight, so that rules out their presence in day, where businesses are most active.

This also means that they have the least amount of jobs available for them. Most businesses would close by, say, about 10pm or so.

10pm to Humans is 10am to Vampires.

The result is that by a typical Vampire's afternoon, at around 12 midnight, the streets would be barren. Most stalls would be closed.

The only available jobs would be either being a bouncer at some taverns. Or working for some crime syndicates attempting to pass illegal goods around (This is the most commonly available job for them). Alternatively, they could also join the Byakko Guards, but they are unlikely to make it anywhere to the upper echelons.

It might also be interesting to note that most Vampire females work as prostitutes due to their activity at night, their natural beauty, and also the lack of other available jobs.

It also in lieu of this fact that the Byakko government later decided to pass out monthly grants to Vampire families to help tide them over - especially those that are unemployed. This is highly debated, but has been instituted by the existing Emperor because of the increasing unemployment amongst Vampires - which also earned him more supporters in the race.

Crimes

The following are common knowledge:

Most Vampire criminals are murderers.

Most Vampire criminals are addicted to blood.

Therefore, most Vampire murderers are addicted to blood.

Lol. The above is true.

...

Yes. A vast majority of Vampire criminals are murderers that are addicted to blood - almost all, in fact. This is largely due to the pleasure derived from drinking blood. They do not care for the race of their victims when they murder for blood. Just so long the person's alive, and full of blood inside.

Rarely are there Vampires that are thieves, burglars and all - most probably due to the grants that generally help almost all Vampire families to survive.

...

Now, crimes done to Vampires by Humans and Animal Shifters.

The most often occurring crime where a Vampire is victim is manslaughter.

It might actually be more correct to say 'premeditated murder'. Typically, the Human or Animal Shifter would kill the Vampire, then when the authorities come, accuse the Vampire of being a Blood Addict that was trying to drink his/her blood.

More often than not, the actual criminal gets away with a manslaughter charge.

I'm not sure tbh :hmmm: Anathema, do you know when you might be able to get a short post up?

Booya, people.

Are you all still in? I think I'm pretty much ready to re-enter the role playing sphere! :D

Hoorah! Lock and loaded. All ready to go. Fei has met with Ming and your knight and Renka has asked you a question. So theres the interaction. ill go and post now.

Speaking of which, I think I never addressed this, but it might be cool to note.

The Warlocks are officially of higher ranking than the Security Council Leader. Though obviously, if you're going to compare their authority, the latter would win, since that authority is over the main fighting force within the city.

Wait.. Warlocks are higher in theoretical power, by ranks, but Leader has the main fighting force, so actual power. So in that sense?

Btw, we are already in the city. I had Renka take us to a tavern with a second floor balcony seat viewing the gate. I sent Fei and the two twins to meet Mingzhu and Galen and they are on their way back now.

And by Tavern, i meant a night club typa thing, but its still in daytime, so no hanky panky going on inside. XD

Yep, theoretically powerful.

And I'll quickly edit off my mistake >.< LOL

Hey, great to see that you're feeling better Ravness :yay: And I'm still interested, I'll try to get a post in asap.

That's nice! Take your time. The pace of the role play itself had always been slow anyway :D
