hey guys i recently just found a bunch of my old PSX games, but as you would guessed it know PSX memory card, so i came up with a nice idea for myself, and that would be for me to start another hard but fun challenge to undergo, and i love FF challenges, and i havent tried a NO GAMEOVER challenge yet, im gona give it a shot for FFIX

the rules are simple- no moogles- meaning no tents/ no saves/ and no deaths/ and no gameovers

so let me explain, basically when one of your characters is dead you have failed the challenge, but can still go in with the no gameover challenge

im aiming for the no death challenge first, if someone dies well then it would have to come down to being able to stay alive with zero gameovers from start to finish, or else you start the game all over from disc 1

the main goal of this challenge is to keep everyone alive without having 1 die (unless its story oriented and dont have a choice) if so someone of your party dies, your main goal would then be forced to be a no gameover challenge. a no death would be harder, but none the less they are both hard

no saving! and no tents! the moogle is completly band from usage.

now im about to start it up right now,

lets get some tips and maybe some ideas from some other FF veterans

that would be great! and wish me luck and i wish all of those who wana participate in this challenge with me.

I am currently aiming for Excalibur II, but I might give it a shot later.
I suggest you overpower your party ASAP mainly for the high HP.

It will be hard trying one character not to die, especially IF your aiming to beat some powerful bosses, or enemies who cast Death, so Deathproof ability is a must.

You also need to plan carefully your moves and know very well on which area you are going to, the enemies, bosses, etc...

Let me know how your progress is coming along.

Will try it out too :D No gameover with no saves is an easy one ;) But without any deaths... you need to be ready for every fight... most-likely you will need to get all items what give you some kind of immunity or something and work with a overleveled party everywhere.
Good luck anyway :)

:D That would be nice ;) I think I will start it with my ps3 tonight :) Will report if I will success in something, like boss battles.
So the rules-
No deaths-
No gameover-
No runaways from battle-
No nothing :D
But I am going to visit moogles. In a challenge like that, I surely want to transport kupo nuts!

Sure thing, I can't wait from hearing news from both of you. :monster:
also be sure to especify your equipment, abilities, Main Party etc...

Yeah I will :) Will tell you basic strategies for running around and for bosses :D Thank to god that I will do it in FF IX, because if you know how to play it, you can become pretty much immortal.( Tho I have no idea how I could beat the boss in chocobo heaven, think I wont touch him, as well I wont touch Hades).

k well my update so far is, just got up to lindblum with no saves/no moogles/no tents/no deaths/no gameovers. so i just beat black waltz 3 and he kind of got my Vivi pretty close to KO he has a tendancy to hit Vivi quite alot, as for those of you who are doing this challenge black waltz 2 will be a breeze since Garnet will not be attacked, and for Black waltz 1, well its not an option to fail that fight so best level up in the ice cavern befor hand work on Zidanes weapon/armour skills, so you can switch to the more powerful equipment sooner than later, rather than slowly progressing through old cruddy armour, now that im in Lindblum im taking the oppurtunity to get Zidane alone, and powerlevel him this is a great oppurtunity befor moving along with the story again, so far all goes well

il give you a low down on the fights with black waltz 1, which is crucial some will have some problems, but if you gave time to level up zidane to atleast 7 you should be fine, and it would be nice to throw in a few steal, il make sure to give you more detailed information on more upcoming boss fights. so far its to soon to give you exact stats, but Zidane will be important (use that steal ability alot of bosses have good equipment to get your hands on)

il be sure to report back

I think the "No Saving" option is a bit stiff. Ive completed this challenge without using Moogles except to save. No Inns, and only used healing medicine INSIDE of battle.

These were the rules set between my friends, we were also not allowed to flee from battle at all. This is the good part, because it basically ensures your tough enough to survive the hard points in the game.

The most important thing is to keep 8 members of your party all at a reasonable level, until you get to a point where you dont have to use the ones you dont like anymore. This was important to me especially during the Shrine part, as well as the death run through Pandemonium because i normally just let Quina die and do the thing with Zidane, but of course you cant do that this time.

The hardest part for me was the very start, because this was when you were most prone to dying. I spent about 20-30 minutes levelling up before i entered the Ice Cavern early on Disc 1. This was the key, i was at Level 7 with everyone before I even started, it gave me a big boost. :D

Hehe... I made my way to black waltz no.1 while Zidane was lvl 12 :D Than, yeah my psx was able to freeze.... think I will do it on ps3 today... tho I can't play any other games on it then, but huh... I can survive some days without COD4 and GT5 ;)

I only seen the updates now, cool! and I agree, the Save option should be allowed, at least between discs, I mean if you got K.Oed against Storm Dragons or Ahrimans, all the work on the past CD's it was for nothing. lol

Keep up the news. :D

Hehe... pretty busy now, so wont go on with this challenge for now ( Until weekend I think), but than, I will complete it :D Oh and I will save between cd-s, because I have to turn my PS3 off after a while.... not for starting again. If I die, I will start back from beginning... no cheating ;)

Not only are you going to have to play a bunch in a row which will make you wonder if the sun still shines, but if it takes you a while, you're going to kill your PSX and your disc. Having the game spinning for that long continually will fry something in your system.

Good luck with it, but i don't think you're going to get much of a reward for it...

I personally think the "no-save" rule is a bit silly. You might overheat your system or damage the disc from constant use...why not just keep a record on KO's?

Even if you don't die, you'll know how far you made it without having to avail of your saved game. Seems logical to me :P

That is very easy why didnt you try it when you bought the game it would be better you would have to learn to survive if you try it now you will know what each of the bosses do and etc.

I think the key is just to have sufficient items. Money in this game is generally easy to attain.. Considering the difficulty of the enemies....

No Game Over is utterly easy... No Deaths.. Now thats something I should try. Perhaps another time though.

I got a challange for you guys.

Beat the game at level 1. Impossible you say? Not really. It's just a matter of avoiding random battles and equiping the right skills for boss battles, since they only give you AP and not XP. Also, if your able to do this, and you want some reall bragging rights, give Ozma a try.

Good luck.

I dunno, a no death challenge would be ok if I could save. I can't sit and play a FF game from start to finish, I'll need a break or something... or my PS3 would explode. But if there were a death challenge with saving, I'd say you'd have to delete your save if you die, cuz otherwise yer cheating.

The level 1 challenge's tougher. I'll have to find my way to get the Virus status for more convenience... And I won't try that before getting the other challenges complete first..

I'd attempt the challange myself, but seeing as how I lost my FF IX :( back in the day, I can't.

I don't recommend doing the Level 1 challange unless your an extremely skilled player. Not dissing on anyone's ability at the game, don't get me wrong, but from what i've heard, only a rare amount of people are able to complete it.

Like before, good luck to those willing to take a shot at it.
