I was wondering if anyone else here is into ancient mythology and folklore. I, myself, am particularly interested in Greek and Irish mythology at the moment, and I love books based off of these things. Currently, I'm reading the Odyssey, and after that, I may read the Aeneid.

In regards to Irish mythology, I'm really interested in the life of the hero, Cu Chulainn. I read the Tain recently and really liked it.

What about you guys? Do you like mythology? Who are your favorite gods or heroes?

I absolutely LOVE mythology in pretty much every form, and it fuels my creative drive a great deal of the time. I guess if I had to pick a particular area that interested me the most...that'd be either the Greek (and, by extension, Roman) or Norse eras, although a lot of later mythology from other areas of the world links into it in some form or another - different depictions of deities or non-human figures, for example. The same idea, just a different name and a slightly different representation or story to go with it.

Whilst I guess it shows that the human race has always been painfully unoriginal, I find it both fascinating and inspiring. My favourite deity is probably Aphrodite (she has the most interesting myth relating to her creation, in my opinion...it's nothing if not imaginative. xD) although I've always like the Protogenoi as a group.

I read the Tain when I was a nipper, it also goes by the name 'The great Cattle Raid of Cooley' iirc. You should check out some of the Fionn MacUmhail stories (or however you spell the name), even if he did turn out to be a bastard with the whole Diarmaid and Aoife thing. I think their is also a story about the Dagda, eating a giant pot of soup because the turkish bet him he couldn't

Many of the things I have read and the things that I have referenced too in my creative works are derived from Greek, Roman and Norse Mythology. I'm not too familiar with many other mythologies, (such as Irish and Egyptian). My favorite stories pertaining to mythos was the stories of Perseus (who defeated Medusa) and Oedipus (King of Thebes who unknowingly murdered his father and married his mother. A fact that still makes me wanna throw up.)

I'm quite interested in Mythology and reading about how certain cultures have developed from old stories that were widely shared. I'm perhaps most intrigued by Greek legends, Chinese legends, American Indian mythology and Old Norse tales like the Poetic Edda (which have inspired old epics like Beowulf and even Final Fantasy!).

There are quite a few cross-overs, which certainly support the argument that many of the religions are connected at the core. Because of this connection with the past and the inclusion of extraordinary scenarios and creatures, there's an epic quality to even some of the most simplest myths and legends...

I'm minoring in classics, which my internet pal called James says is the study of biscuits. So I've read quite a few plays, most of the by Euripides, one each by Sophocles, Aeschylus and Aristophanes. The first three all wrote tragedies and Aristophanes wrote comedy, Greek comedy is very very rude.
My favourite characters are Odysseus, because he is cunning and manipulative and a good fighter and he gets a lot of really hot cunt. I also like Medea, who was a witch and killed her brother and later killed her sons.
